A proof of concept on the viability of converting useless 800 MHz Motorola Quantar stations to 900 MHz Ham band.
Right now there are a number of issues which must be resolved, but it's promising as the major parts convert with out too much work. Once I have it debugged I'll publish my results.

Nice to see this Bryan. As you know I did this mod earlier this year. Works great. I added Toko filters to the front end which did impact sensitivity. But made up with a Sinclair preamp and a Motorola pre-selector. It has run for six months sometimes an hour at a time on a Allstar network with N5JGX, W8VT, and W8JTW. Recently it threw a PA/Exciter fault and when looking at a log of it only shows unable to connect. So not sure what's up. This was only an issue after power line glitches. May just be a confused CPU. This confusion did not go away after a reset command from RSS but only after power cycle. As for the fans take a look at the thermistor voltage. The PA fans for mine kick in at 2.1V and in cool down would only go up to about 2.8V. But for the fans to shut down the thermistor voltage needs to be between 3 and 3.1 volts. So I played with the 47K resistor that goes from +5 to the thermistor to raise the thermistor voltage. Problem solved. Now after a marathon talk session after about 5 minutes the fans shut down. This, by the way, is in an air conditioned room. A warm site may be different. -GeorgeC W2DB

⚠️. QUICK REQUEST - Any possibility of converting an R3 (“T-Band” /. 470-494Mhz.) Quantar to handle “R2” specs? Especially GMRS (462.xxx TX and 467.xxx RX)... thank you!!

👍🏻 Interesting!! Any idea of the overall cost to convert an 800Mhz station to 900 for ham use? Used 800Mhz Quantars are selling for under $500 in our area. Thanks!
