Less than 100 kilometres southwest of Paris, in the middle of the great plain of Beauce, known as the "granary" of France, Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral is visible from afar. The sculptor Auguste Rodin called it the "Acropolis of France". The cathedral's ornate stained glass windows have also impressed visitors since time immemorial. In the shadow of the giant building, the area still houses workshops for stained glass. The atelier Lorin is one of the last from the 19th century still in operation today. It is run by Elodie Vally, a master of her craft.
