For everyone saying the vocals are too quiet: It‘s an iconic thing about eightys songs that the vocals are more quiet then the instrumental, or that one instrument i louder than the others.
Iced Tea Time Haha! My young years were the best indeed! I even used to have a crush on Marina and now that I think about it, my wife used to look frighteningly similar to her. Reminds of that incident in 1989 where confused fans thought that I was dating Marina lol
@@clydenoc2077 At least you acknowledged it's likely a joke, which it.. 100% is. A ton of comments are like this, so you are very much missing on a big joke here :P
That was in the media for ages.. I honestly feel like Marina was more influential in pop at the time than Madonna, but I guess that's highly debatable. Both 80s queens nonetheless 🤷♀️.
My daughter just showed me this and it instantly brought me back to that very sweet spring of the year 1985. This song was playing in the car of my future husband when he asked me if I wanted to go to prom with him. It is crazy how time flies....... I wonder what happened to her, she must be almost 80!!!
I don't even like roller skating but this makes me wish I was in a sparsely attended skate rink grooving out under the flashing rainbow lights right now
i remember listening to this in my girlfriend's old car... back then we had to run away, because in the old times, of course our relationship was illegal. i miss both her and marina so much. r.i.p. mariah and marina
My mom remembered this song and started to cry. She told me Marina was a huge idol to her but due to the fact that her parents were anti-music, she would have to listen to the songs with the TV on mute and the captions on. It never got as big as Hollywood, but she said it was still a very good song and she wishes Marina was still here. RIP Marina, you were an icon.
“Oh No!” is Marina’s debut single, and her most successful of her career. The song skyrocketed to #1 in the UK, Canada, US, Mexico, France, Germany, and other several countries also it was named the song of the year in 1982. The single sold 20 million copies worldwide. It’s her best selling single and her first album it’s the most successful one.
Wow this brings back memories. The first time I heard this song was senior year. I had been saving up my money and bought a 1986 Camaro fresh off the lot and this was the first song that played when I turned on the radio. I rolled down the windows and enjoyed the moment. Wow time seemed to have flown by after that year.
I remember blasting this song in the summer of 89 when I found out she had an overdose. I’m glad her influence, taste, and legacy lives on with her Daughter Diamandis😔🙌🏽
Man, Time flies… Remember first hearing this gem at the town and park roller rink in 83, an hour in to my skate session. It was bring a friend Friday, and I had invited my crush. I put it off most of the night until I finally worked up the courage to ask her out. Fast forward to now and my then best friend is now lovely wife of 29 years. Whenever this plays on the radio, it brings back a flood of memories. I actually took my wife to Marina and the Diamonds concerts every anniversary. Sad she passed so young. Brought many smiles to many lives, Marina! Rest In Peace!
man the 1880s were wild. i remember my mom talkimg about when she saw Queen Victoria dancing to this even tho it was illegal for royalty to bust down back then
TV taught her how to feel? Oh man lucky her. My parents couldn't afford a TV back in the 80s on the ranch. Life was hard but this song has always been there for me. Now I have an iPhone! Times have truly changed since then. I wonder how is this musical legend doing today
Man, I remember when this song came out in the summer of '82. The hot summer nights when this would blast from the radio were something I will remember my whole life.
My mother was so crazy about Marina that she rocked that hairdo when she was young. I mean, this song is 7 years older than I am! This just goes to show that these songs are timeless, right! I myself am annoyed I never got to see her perform it live.
Hot summer nights, mid July, 1982. My girlfriend and I stole my dad's old truck and drove our way out to San Junipero away from our dusty old home town. I remember turning on the radio and hearing this song for the first time. We were free in that moment. I'll never forget those days!
I remember going to her concert with my college boyfriend at the time in '85, it was the most magical night. So sad to see her fade away behind all this hip artists
i discovered your channel with gagas stupid love video and 1 hour later still listening to all your videos! i am obsessed! you are so good! thank you for making all these masterpieces!
I was crate digging at a dusty estate sale and I found an original pressing of this album! And in mint condition too! I would never sell it-- not a scratch on that bad boy, which is awesome considering it's 40 years old. And the totally 80s album art looks awesome in person too.
Anyone else remember the scandal about her hooking up with Roger Taylor a year after this song was released, during 1983. Seems like only yesterday and of course! Her and Madonna's rivalry were so intense when this song hit the charts!
I remember seeing her at the grocery store in 87, she was well disguised but being a crazy teen in the 80's I recognized her. She was really nice! I got an autograph and a picture and she hugged me. I remember it like it was yesterday, time really flies. I wonder how she's doing now, I doubt she remembers me.
the song that got her most famous! i remember going to her “Marina and the Diamonds World Tour” in 95, but her final one was in 2000. shes still releasing music, but no tours, legend!
Remember that messy break-up of the band space rock back in 1979? I'm so glad she got to make her own band in1983 instead of just being the bassist. I remember this demo from 1982
Once I was listening to it and my dad came to our kitchen and heard it. He asked "What is it? Some 80's song?" He is 46 yo, so obviouslly he was a kid and teenager in 80's. So I can say, that this really sounds like music from that time.
Marina Diamandis is my birth year 1985 and she fits so well in the 80s. I have like 3-4 memories from the 80s when I was super young and I cling to them with white knuckles because that was the best decade and the only one that made sense. Great song, I've listened to it since it came out.
LYRICS Don't do love, don't do friends I'm only after success Don't need a relationship I'll never soften my grip Don't want cash, don't want card Want it fast, want it hard Don't need money, don't need fame I just want to make a change I just wanna change, I just wanna change I just wanna change, I just wanna change I just wanna Change! I know exactly what I want and who I wanna to be I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh! One track mind, one track heart If I fail, I'll fall apart Maybe it is all a test 'Cause I feel like I'm the worst, so I always act like I'm the best If you are not very careful Your possessions will possess you TV taught me how to feel Now real life has no appeal It has no appeal, it has no appeal It has no appeal, it has no appeal It has no appeal! I know exactly what I want and who I wanna to be I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh! I know exactly what I want and who I wanna to be I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh! I'm gonna live, I'm gonna fly I'm gonna fail, I'm gonna die I'm gonna live, I'm gonna fly I'm gonna fail, gonna da-da-da-da-die I know exactly what I want and who I wanna be I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh! I know exactly what I want and who I wanna be I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh! Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh!
