From KISS to Bon Jovi, Cinderella the blues-rock outfit caught the attention of some of the industry’s biggest icons before they were signed. And though their story sounds like something out of a fairytale, the reality is that these guys went triple-platinum with their debut record, Night Songs All thanks to a hit single called Nobody’s Fool that climbed the charts to lucky #13 in the mid 80s But could this band sustain their early momentum? Or would it all fall apart at the stroke of midnight? The story is coming up… NEXT on the Professor of Rock.

Hey music junkies and vinyl junkies Professor of Rock always here to celebrate the greatest artists and the greatest 80s songs of all time for the music community and vinyl community with music history video essay's including today's Cinderella reaction. If you’ve ever owned records, cassettes and CD’s at different times in you life or still do this is your place Subscribe below right now to be a part of our daily celebration of the rock era with exclusive stories from straight from the artists and click on our patreon link in the description to become an Honorary Producer.
I’m excited to return to another one of my favorite shows that we do on this channel. It’s called Breakthrough. In this show we breakdown songs, albums or events that kicked open the door to an artist or band’s career and gave them the momentum to rocket to long term success. On previous episodes we have covered West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys, Bang a Gong (Get it On) by T Rex, and Silent Lucidity by Queensryche. Today we are telling the story of one of the mightiest power ballads of the 80s, the one and only Nobody’s Fool by Cinderella.
There were a ton of bands that came and went during the heyday of hard rock and metal in the 80s but Cinderella was always a favorite. I was excited to see Johnny Lawerence sporting a Cinderella t shirt in the trailer for Cobra Kai recently. So let’s get into it.
future Cinderella bassist Eric Brittingham was hanging out at a local club in Ocean City, Maryland when hard rockers Saints in Hell came to town. This was back in the early 80s. The Saints were scheduled to play on Halloween night, but arrived at the club a day early.
It was at some point on the day before the show that Brittingham stepped into the men’s room to take care of business. While standing at the urinal, two of the Saints members walked in complaining about their bass player. Then just moment later, Eric felt a tap on his shoulder. “Hey do you play bass?”
I have no idea what was running through Eric Brittingham’s mind at that point. But if had been me, it would have been something about personal space. Yet he must have realized destiny’s call had just overruled nature’s call because he responded, “Yeah actually I do.”
Way to take it all in stride Eric. However, Brittingham then admitted that he currently didn’t own a bass. But that wasn’t a problem. The band’s guitarist Tom Keifer told him to show up in the morning and he could use their guy’s equipment.

Poll: What is your pick for the greatest song of the 80s glam rock era?
@betterinthe80sdude
@betterinthe80sdude 2 года назад
Most glam rock was terrible, but Whitesnake was good. Here I Go Again is the best glam rock song, and Is This Love is the best glam rock ballad.
@thecollective1584

My choice came from the era,but not from a glam rock band... "Gutter Ballet" by Savatage outclassed, imo, all of the Aquanet Action Heroes offerings. As for the glam/hair bands, I would have to go with: A) "Bathroom Wall" by Faster Pussycat or B) "Dr. Feelgood" by Motley Crue.

I've got a soft spot for "Turn Up the Radio" by Autograph, as I credit it with being the first song to "introduce" me to the glam metal/melodic hard rock sound. Since I can never seem to list just one of anything, I've gotta throw out some honorable mentions: "Love Song" - Tesla "Hold On to 18" - Black 'N Blue "Call to the Heart" - Giuffria Not sure if it qualifies as glam metal, because I felt like these guys sort of transcended the genre, but "Silent Lucidity" - Queensryche "Everybody's Crazy" - Michael Bolton (yes, you read that right- none other than Michael Bolton put out a killer glam metal-sounding album in the mid 80s, before he went soft! This song was the title track...) "10,000 Lovers" - TNT "Heaven Tonight" - Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force I want to include something by Dokken too but can't decide on one song... Alright, I'm done! :D

Back in 2016 I was filming Tom Keifer Band in Nashville while they were singing "Don't know what you got till it's gone" when the power went out due to a massive storm outside. Somehow the band found my video on my little channel and posted it to their Facebook page! I thought that was pretty damn cool. That's as close as I got to the band but, it was a pretty cool thing to see my video on their page. Keep up the great work. Love your channel and the stories.

One of my all time favorite bands. Saw them in a little bar in the early to mid 90's in Florida maybe '94 and Tom Kiefer was holding my hand from the stage singing Long Cold Winter to me and pulled me onto the stage and I was so starstruck that I stopped singing and was just blushing and hiding my face behind my hair like a schoolgirl I can't believe I acted like that instead of just keeping singing with him like I had been before he noticed me and acting cool. Great memory, many regrets that I couldn't get ahold of myself enough to not fangirl. I just listened to all of their albums all the way through the other day I do that every now and then.

I work nights and watching your video everyday around noon is how I start my day. Love the Tears For Fears shirt. Their tour kicks off this weekend here in Ohio. Cinderella was one of my favorite bands from 1986 to 1989 and I had a patch of the band logo sewn on the back of my Jean Jacket. That was a big deal in 7th grade. My friends all decided to choose a different band and this was mine among my friends with Kiss, Guns N Roses, Poison, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and Motley Crue. Have a geat day all commentors.

@ProfessorofRock I actually had surgeries by one of the same vocal doctors that Tom went to in Philly. One of the foremost ENT surgeons in the world. Tom's and my vhs copies of our videostrobeoscopies actually were right next to each other one the doctors self. His labeled T. Keifer and mine T. Lorenz. Fun fact.. mine were in a locked glass case but his wasn't. I asked the doctor why and he said he wasn't writing a book about Tom's case but mine he was so....lol. Also I got to say I have been a huge Cinderella fan since the beginning bought night songs on cassette with my paper route money when I was 11. Have all the albums on vinyl, cassette, and cd. As well as Tom's solo cds and a bunch of other memorabilia from over the years. Tom's definitely in my top 5 singers of not just that era but ever! 🤘😎🤘🎸

I was about 11 or 12 when Cinderella exploded. I was living in southern Maine at the time. The feel was like any northern upstate small middle america at the time. I was so driven at the time by my younger uncle trying to teach me guitar at the time. My dad finally bought me a Sears guitar at a yard sale. The intonation and guitar strings were so impossible but to bleed and I did. This really made me who I am looking back. I started to take guitar more seriously when I was 19 and Baseball and College became a dead end at the time, Then I moved across country and learned an education from the road trip that I highly recommend any one do while they are young and trying to find a way, The band regrouped and became more serious a few years later after San Francisco to New Orleans. I found home in New Orleans for about 7 years. In your 20's you think differently and get a taste of life once you have to figure out life at that point. These were the best times of my life. The band broke up and here I am in Vegas many years later making a living. I will not get into what is really going on post these times but will say that knowledge is the most important thing in LIFE. I have learned so much by staying in tune to real life and not the fake mainstream way of life. The internet was a great way to become involved but not in the way of the lamestream. I am neither a left or right wing. I just follow the truth of what is happening. So many are trying to show people in many different ways. I love the "Trainhoppers latelely". Lots of old time Wrestlers are speaking the Truth. Roddy Pipers role in the movie, "They Live" is so important. John Carpenter.... You should interview John Carpenter ,,,Professor of Rock...... I was at the "Hard Rock" in Las Vegas when he performed an amazing show a few years back. John is an amazing guy with knowledge. Oliver Stone's son knows what is going on here. Sean Stone. That would be an incredible interview. We have a problem with males not doing what they are suppose to be doing progressively here. Could this all be part of a LARGE PROGRAM of EUGENICS? I hate to say this but certain folks warning about this may have been right all along here. Many rockers can attest to this phenomenon here. Billy Corgan would be a great interview. Dave Mustaine as well.

I have a "Cinderella" story. I had friends who had a local band who played in Philly (Philadelphia) sometimes. I took pictures of them performing sometimes and came to the shows often. I was at one of their shows at the Empire (Rock club. Or the Tower. I get names mixed up sometimes.) on the (Roosevelt, US 1) Boulevard. A guy saw me with the camera and asked if I was going to take his picture. I told him my work friends had a band (Taken) and I took pictures for them, and I had their permission. I told him I NEVER take people's pictures without their permission. He seemed happy about that. I sat at the bar talking to him for about 20 - 25 minutes about my work, music, supporting my friends and local bands in general (I took pictures for other bands performing occasionally, basically for the film and development costs to help out.) and stuff. Then he wandered off. All folks in the band and other people were impressed I talked to him so long. Truth is I had no idea who he was. I knew of the band but never much got into personalities of celebrities or bands in general. I liked them a lot but wasn't a fanatic fan. Wasn't the first time I met a famous person and didn't have a clue who they were. Sort of a "thing" with me in my life. I like my story about meeting Uzi (Uziel) Gal (Inventor/Designer of the Uzi) at the Valley Forge Gun Show. Didn't know who I talked to until I saw his death notice (With picture.) a few years later.

I am a fan from the beginning with Shake Me and haven't stopped. Loved all of Night Songs. Long Cold Winter hit in my senior year of high school and I played it relentlessly. I saw them for the Long Cold Winter tour days before I graduated high school Winger and Bullet boys opened for them and all three bands came out for the encore of I think Freebird, which is kinda nuts. Picked up Heartbreak Station while I was in the Air Force overseas. Still Climbing came out and I admit it was pure luck I heard about it from a coworker within a couple months of release since it got almost no air time. Decent album but not the vibe of the time. I saw them again in a club tour in '98 somewhere in late September/early October in Tucson. One thing I recall is they played nothing from Still Climbing. Everyone was still great and tough to beat being feet from a small stage like that. Still love the band and play music from all the albums.

While glam rock was going on I thought of it as a show and never took it seriously. My crazy older brother loved it which made it more crazy in my mind. About 5-6 years ago I started listening to Cinderella Ratt, La Guns, Great White.. the entire genre and was blown away! Tom K in particular...What heart! What performance! UNREAL! These guys have massive talent!! I am am still in awe. Although now, I have moved on and am into other genres, I stop, listen and smile whenever hair bands are played. Great episode and the first I have watched in a long time.

Tom Keifer- songwriter, singer, solos. An expert in all 3 areas. Bad Seamstress Blues on Long Cold Winter is an awesome opener.

I saw them at the Monsters of Rock 1987 at a very wet Donington Park race circuit. I also saw them at the Manchester Apollo, which was like my second home during the 1980s on their Long Cold Winter tour.

"Nobody's Fool" was the first song I learned to play on guitar when I was a little girl (about 8 years old) back in the 80's.

Agree, Cinderella was one of the 80's most solid bands... Watching them fade away was a huge bummer, especially seeing as Still Climbing was such a great album...

Cinderella and clocks - Remember the story? She has to leave at midnight. That's why she's obsessed with the clock. TBH, I didn't pay attention to Cinderella when they were big. It wasn't till the 90s when I saw them on the Sunset Strip that I realized how incredible they were. I went with some friends, and on the way out, I bought a ticket for the next night, too. I could not believe that I had written them off as just another hair band for all those years.
