This video walks through the refurbishment of an 86 CR125 gas tank. This particular gas tank had been damaged by a razor blade during a previous refurbishment attempt.

I use EVO Mx in the UK. They will have your seat cover OEM match. They have great graphics as well. Shipping is quick and they are cheaper that the US. Bike looks great.

I totally hear you on the mismatched colors. That's not being picky at all. After restoring my '86 250 I can tell you this. The OEM fenders that are available and claim to be 'flash red' are much redder than the originals. I ended up returning them and getting everything but the side panels from UFO. The side panels I got from VMX racing and I will say it was all a pretty good match to each other. My tank, which I restored like you, did appear more orange than all the plastics at first also and I too was disappointed, but your tank does appear to contrast a lot with those UFO shrouds. I'm thinking your lighting may be making it look worse than it does. Take the tank together with the shrouds out into natural light and take a look. I noticed a big improvement in the color match once out from under my florescent shop lights. I don't even notice the difference now. BTW I did a lot of research about which brand plastics are the best match to the OEM flash red and hands down everyone on the forums and FB groups recommended UFO. The only issue is UFOs website is set up so poorly. For instance when you put in for an '86 250 it shows no shrouds available yet they're listed for the '87 which are the same. IIRC it was the same with the number plate and mud guard. Ultimately they had everything but the side panels. This was a couple years ago so maybe they've actually updated their site.

Good to hear I'm not alone in this. I think you're right about the lights, when I was outside the tank looked to be a darker color. I'm really close to wheeling the bike out of the basement. I'm not sure I've got enough funds left to buy new plastics again. I started out with the kit from DC and was deeply disappointed in finish, the orange peel texture was terrible. I'll have to check out the UFO website and see.

The disc in the back and the muffler make it look like an '87 with an '86 tank. '87 have red colors and the '86 is orange.

Nice. I get it, I think being picky on the details is a good thing. That disc guard is junk!! Wow, I can't believe someone would send that out!!

The bike is looking great! I have the same year. Whas the tank oxidized a real light color? Mine does appear to be darker. Here is mine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mgBG-Ov0bVk.html I hate sanding the gas tank. I just did this on a 1982 KX80. I spent 13 hours on it.

Wow, yeah your tank color matches really nicely 👌 It may have been exposed to alot of sun at some point in its life. One of the previous owners worked on the tank before me, my guess would be it was white and sun faded
