@@nikolausnikolausnikolaus Nice finds. I I don't have core Megatron (yet), but those are all really fun figures. I'm excited for core Megatron and Sound wave because I'm a sucker for tiny things
@@PerspectiveEnd I'm gonna try to give him knees. He does make for a really cute companion for Grimlock, just hanging out on his back. Considering that's what he's meant to do, he does it ok.
Yep, Hasbro login to Teletraan 1 and found the old Wheeljack and Ratchet blueprints for Grimlock. Better built than before, into the Studio Series 86 line. Looking forward to how great the other Dinobots will be after him.
Really looking forward to all of those. Swoop Who I just really like, Sludge who's my Low Key Favorite, Slag who's toy was important to my childhood, Snarl who just looks dope with all the spikes. And what would really be cool is them inserting Slash into the time line. Like don't even pretend you aren't interested in an 86 Slash even though she wasn't in the movie.
I saw this figure yesterday at a Toys R Us and oddly enough he was the only SS86 figures in the Transformers section because most of the figures in the TF section were just a bunch of Cyberverse figures. I unfortunately wasn't able to get him because I'm currently broke at the moment. As for the figure itself, he looks extremely well done. I'm honestly happy that they used gold instead of the ugly yellow of the promotional pics for it. The overall poseability on him looks adequate and i'm so glad that he's the traditional leader size, it makes him so much more worth the price. If there's anything I can complain about though, it would be the lack of a sword, though I suspect that they didn't give him a sword because he didn't use it in the movie (not sure though I haven't watched the 86 movie in it's entirety). Also, great review as always 👍
Thank you very much. He does not use a sword at any point during the movie, or at any point in the show. It is a fantastic figure, and If I had to go hungry to get it I would. But that's just me.
its not since 13 years the studio series is good, potp grimlock its not that trash is just more like a toy, howerver the deformed proportions are weird, to incorporate the combiner thing, but the way they painted the golden parts is great, and i dont like the gap in animated grimlock's neck
I take it we aren't counting the PotP as a Good Figure, and we are only going with Official Figures, but isn't the MP a bit newer than Animated, so are we also not Counting MP?
All will be destroyed, should they dare oppose me, even if that opposition is merely unintentional physical intersection with my path. I am the unstoppable force, and they are not the immovable object.
I recently rewatched the film and the Dinobots do use their guns in the Unicron battle, but it's not very noticeable and I think their melee weapons are much more iconic.
I found Grimlock randomly at a Walmart just before the other 86 figured started popping up. It was the only one and I snatched it up. Now the same store has quite a few in stock warming up the shelves. I'm still glad I got him when I did. I absolutely love this guy.
Yeah, I think what happened with that is that Distribution is entirely messed up, so one store in a region will get the stock for all the others. I've been to store after store without a single Grimlock, then one store will have like 10. And I love it too, one of the best figures in the last few years.
I'm trying to look for the Netflix bumblebee at Walmart and every time I go there he's never there I'm telling you when your looking for something they don't have it but when your not looking for something they have it SMH
Yeah, it's impossible to find what you are looking for right now. But I would caution you that Netflix Bumblebee is just ER Cliffjumper, so if you are like me and don't care for that figure, you won't be impressed with Bumblebee, but you probably already know that.
@@paulkilcline1168 Well I hope you like it. I don't want people to dislike the stuff the get. I just want to warn them away from stuff I think they may not like.
Awesome vid as always! I heard somewhere that the Studio Series 86 line was originally intended to be the third part of WFC until a change in management caused them to shift focus from the 86 movie to Beast Wars. I can’t quite remember where I heard that, so take it with a grain of salt, but given how the figures are engineered, I wouldn’t be surprised Anyways, this figure looks amazing! I can’t wait to get my hands on one (if it ever shows up in Canada. Seriously, I just started finding Kingdom figures in my stores last week, and they’re still not available on Canadian websites)
I still can't find kingdom figures in stores, and I live in the US, and most of them aren't on sites over here either. I'll say that Grimlock here makes more sense for ER, cause ERs leaders were clearly forced into the role either by coming from previous lines, or by having TACKED on trailers. Doubledealer was much more in line with this Grimlock.
@@PerspectiveEnd I'll be honest, I've never really been too upset about the WFC leaders. I've found them all to be really good figures with amazing engineering, and enough accessories and features to make them worth it. I've never really understood why it's been that big of a deal that they're smaller, because at the end of the day, you're still getting your money's worth in engineering, articulation, and sheer mass
My concern about this figure, having owned it for a few months, is that the red hinge on the tail, or the part of the upper leg that is on the hinge will eventually snap, ruining the beautiful figure.
Although a sword for grimlock would have been awesome, this toy line is meant to represent they’re appearances in the movie. In the movie he didn’t have his sword. This is the same reason Jazz doesn’t have door wings.
Ok, got this guy today, and holy shit I was absolutely not expecting him to be that big, dude absolutely dreads everything in my collection with the exception of energon megatron
Funny story, I got this figure right after getting my teeth pulled so while I was in Walmart I was in extreme pain but he was the figure that made that day bearable
i cant believe its THREE YEARs since this lad came out. i didnt get him cause he didnt show up AT ALL at my local but have just bought the comic book version hasbro pulse have released . i was gonna pass on the leader dinobots completely as i didnt think i could get a grimlock so when they put him up just as Swoop got revealed i knew i'd cave. Swoop is such an indemand character this side of the pond since we got shafted back in the day that i just couldnt resist buying him and with me already having a snarl its just down to slag and sludge now. it helps the comic book version comes with the rest of the swords that werent packed with the original releases.
It is terrifying that time has flown so fast. I only ever saw this ONE in Stores normally I think, but most of the rest of them shelf warmed a bit. I'm glad that you are liking the Swoop so much. I still haven't found a coppy over here. Also the comic version doesn't have a Crap Wheelie no one wanted.
When I first saw pictures of this figure I thought it had the potential to be one of if not THE best chug scale transformers figure ever And I am not disappointed
I especially love how it defeats every single claim that the dumb voyager sized figures are leader priced because they're more complex, less hollow, more articulated, and have better guns. Grimlock doesn't have and single hollow gap part in either mode, is still fairly complicated, has great articulation, and an absolutely solid gun while still actually feeling like a leader class.
@@PerspectiveEnd He's so good that that is completely forgettable. Though yeah, if Wheelie was to be sacrificed for anything, the arms splitting and the hand rotating down would be it. And that's only like 2 extra parts.
They Typically do actually. The only Grimlock I can think of that doesn't is the PotP. Yeah the MP isn't very good. Worst thing about his is ball jointed shoulders that cant get out one quarter as far as they need to without popping off. Well that and the fact that he holds together like a Chinese knock off you find at the dollar store.
The Beast Wars series was great but this figure is why I believe G1 did it best. Grimlock is one of the original "Beast" Transformers and he's still metal in both forms. Loved the video and never change dude. You're unique and that fact alone is part of the charm of your creative content. Never the less, your videos are fresh.
Well thank you for all that praise, but I don't quite get the last sentence, I almost wonder if you forgot to put in a criticism you were thinking about writing. I feel like that reads "You're videos are good and unique. But don't worry they are good and unique." And What I will always say. What's cooler than cars? Robots. What's cooler than robots? Dinosaurs. What's cooler than Dinosaurs? Robot Dinosaurs.
@@PerspectiveEnd I was just saying your presentation and creative style is unique. From the channel name to fast talking are attributes to the charm of your channel and if I were you I wouldn't ever change a thing.
Yeah, I've been hearing that, that that's absolutely idiotic. Hasbro messed up a good design, and people asked me to criticize it, and I defended them thinking there was no way they were that dumb, and it was infact the proven idiot photographer messing stuff up.
@@PerspectiveEnd Frankly it's one of those figures that you could have a world renowned professional photographer take pictures of it and it would still look like crap.
So far going off a sample of 1 Grimlock, it looks like the thing to get is the Dinobots, but the others may not live up to this one. Personally I will be getting all of them, because I'm a hopeless addict who's bad with money.
Your theory about Grimlock being designed with a different line in mind might hold some weight to it. Judging from how the SS86 Starscream is literally just the Earthrise mold but with retooled hands and lots of accessories.
Ok, so I have decided this looks good enough to get. My question is this: My favorite dinobot is Snarl, so should I wait for the SS Snarl, or pick up this Grimlock?
That sounds about right. We know Slag is next, and if it's one to a Wave, then he's going to be at least in the third wave which would put him at the end of the year, or later.
Nice review. I pre-ordered grimlock from a website of someone I know. However, his website only sells stuff from Japan. So I will be getting the takara version after takara gives his supplier the stock. Which will take 2 months to reach him. So yeah.
@@PerspectiveEnd I mean it will be received by the guy I got it from 2 months after takara gives it to the suppliers because Japan is kinda far from where he lives. It would take another unknown number of months to reach me.
He's got all the C.O.M.B.A.T. ports on him, but placing him somewhere is tricky, but I think I have a good idea. I think he originally had a clear neck and a sword, and was slated to release in Kingdom, but when a certain virus evaporated an entire wave of Earthrise they sacrificed most of the actual SS line and grouped some slots from Kingdom to make the SS 86 line. However in regards to that theory I can't help but think that at least Hot Rod and Blurr are new. Hot Rod because he does too many movie specific things, and Blurr because it feels like a rush job.
I think he might have been intended for Earthrise. Think about it. Earthrise had one TRUE leader Class, the other was an Optimus with a TACKED on trailer, and the last one was a Leader from the Previous line. Those scream to me that they were forced into higher price point to fill gaps left from moving other stuff around. Doubledealer has way more in common with Grimlock than he does the either of the other Leaders from his line.
@@PerspectiveEnd I'm not sure about that. Astrotrain felt more like an Earthrise figure, and both him and Optimus came out before the whole thing. And it feels more like Kingdom because Optimus was re issued to that wave despite having already been widely available and currently on sale, and having another figure in the same wave. And to also mention it, Kingdom seems to be leaning towards aspects from the G1 comics and the episode of G1 where the characters time traveled to the past. Cyclonus, Ultra Magnus, and Galvatron were done in a marvel comic depicting the reformatted Decepticons from TF:TM traveling back to 1986 and fighting the Autobots in that time. Warpath and a few others were in the knights of the round table episode of G1. In the G1 comics the Dinobots were ejected from the Ark as it was crash landing. They took dinosaur forms to blend in with the wildlife and faced off with Shockwave, which is believed to be an inspiration for Beast Wars. I believe in the comic as well that the Insecticons were also active at that time, and took insect modes for the same reason, which would also lean in to that theory.
Grimlock probably was meant for Siege, but then someone that actually watched g1 pointed out how Grimlock didn’t even exist until the autobots were on Earth.
@@gameboycustoms9231 No. Other figures have done this design too. They are just using the same type of engineering for it , and it works out on Grimlock way better because his hips aren't the same color as his thighs meaning it doesn't look like his legs are like 1/5th longer than they should be.
Where do you live that that's a viable option. I'm having a Similar experience with Gamer Edition Optimus, Legacy Armada Optimus, and 86 Snarl right now.
Just watched this again - I got the Shattered Glass version - the joints for the wings are better and hold unless you shake him like a ketchup bottle. I also got the DNA Upgrade kit so I could give him front teeth and fill the screw holes.
This was the only studio series 86 figure I've found in my area in Canada. Was beyond happy to find him but I want some of the others and have to stalk Walmarts daily to try to beat the scalpers.
@@PerspectiveEnd I completely agree with everything you said in the review so glad to finally have an affordable Grimlock figure that's so good and to get just any Grimlock figure that has reasonably sized shoulders
@@creationmatrix4760 I don't know where those shoulders came from, and why does every company out there like to give him them. They don't look powerful they look bloated. Must have come from the WFC Games.
I remember having to settle for a used version on Ebay that was missing Wheelie, and its still the best Grimlock I have once I gave him Fall of Cybertron Grimlock's accessories.
I don't need another version of Grimlocks Crown that was only in one panel of the comic ever. I've got like 7 of those. I don't know why people remember the crown so much, it wasn't even a Cool Design like Starscreams.
@@PerspectiveEnd Literally the only smidge of anything I was able to find was a crappy old Generations Jetfire that had no knee articulation, no instructions, and everything fell apart. I promptly got my 18 bucks back. F that
Found one on pre-order on Amazon. I have to wait till may 1st to get it, but it sounds like he is worth the wait. Hell I waited longer for my Omega Supream. Nice video mate! :)
That would make sense. I mean the SHOVED Optimus into Leader Class, and Astrotrain from another Toyline. Plus As weird as it was Doubledealer was much more in line with the old Leader Class than the new one. So they probably intended to go back to Old Leader with Earthrise.
@@PerspectiveEnd maybe, I feel like with the leader class it's more about the scale of a character, like Grimlock is generally thought of as being quite imposing and large not the biggest but larger than voyager. But then a character like Optimus or Shockwave are gonna be voyager but they need to add stuff to try and justify the leader price point, the trailer for Optimus makes sense but it's not enough to be a leader class. Shockwave in siege I feel was more then filling a quota for leader class figures, like they need three (I think) per line, with siege we got Ultra Magnus, shockwave and Astrotrain, earthrise we got Optimus, Doubledealer and Astrotrain as a reissue. And there was no room for grimlock in ER, even in Kingdom we got an Optimus reissue, BW Megatron and Galvatron. Could also explain why Rodimus has been bumped up to commander class maybe. Feel like Galvatron should be a voyager and Rodimus a leader at most but they've bumped em up because they know they can.
Grimlock’s Dinobot mode’s breath weapons is super inconsistent, in the 86 movie it’s a smoke thingy, in war of the Dinobots it’s a normal auto bot gun projectile.
That grimlock could be the best 86 series transformer And i think hasbro had to put siege effect parts so grim doesn't have frot teeth because as you said i think this one was for siege or earthrise line
On one hand, this looks absolutely incredible. But on the other hand those face screws are absolutely ridiculous, they look like tooth abscesses or something. Makes me want to go the library and 3D print some screw caps for a figure I don’t even own yet.
Finally got one of these guys for $100 + $6 shipping, thought it was gonna be a scam and recieve potp grimlock, but nope, it was ss86 grimlock. Absolutely love the figure,
Someone actually just mentioned that yesterday, and while that would make sense, the Masterpiece Grimlock actually predates that game by 3 years. So while it may still be true, and it's just a coincidence, there is evidence against it.
Hey. This big guy is having a upgrade kit from dna design that will give wheelie a knee joint and elbow joint and can transform. and about grimlock. Grimlock has a sword and a yellow chest piece. (also wheelie has no kibble)
I figured out how to get Grimlock to hold his gun in dino mode! You take the gap above his guns handle and plug it in to the bicep. If you still don't understand, the figure instructions will show you how to do it in robot mode so you can learn to do it in the dino form.
@PerspectiveEnd most targets i go to tell me another store had it. so when I go to that target I don't see it on the shelf. so I ask a clurk and they say they have it in stock. but it's not on the shelf and they tell me it's not in the back. most of the time they then tell me it must be around the store someplace and then say I could just wander around looking for it.
@@knetge Yeah I don't even bother asking at this point, if it's not on the shelf I just go to a different store, after a quick search to make sure some Ragamuffin didn't move it to a different shelf.
its a waste of plastic, nobody asked for him, i dont care for some gaps in figures hands like this, but what upsets me are those useless static plastic shit like weelie
I know you have a bad reputation with upgrade kits, but you make want to get the Nonef productions upgrade kit, fixes the gaps in the arms, the holes in the face, neck, gives him front teeth, a sword, and a change in the clear panel over the autobot symbol, it will make you love him even more.
I don't have a Bad Reputation with upgrade kits, I think they are great when the figure was great to begin with. But if it's a bad figure that you are getting to acceptable status, then you are basically doubling the price to get what you should have gotten in the first place. That I do not like. Making a Great thing Better, worth the Money. Making a bad thing tolerable, waste of money.
My guy if I'm not willing to label this thing a Mini Masterpiece, then I'm not going to give that title to a single figure from Earthrise. I know you want it to happen, but it's not going to. You can like Earthrise. That's fine. But it's also fine that I don't.
Wait a minute. The visor is _actually_ a separate piece? I was talking to a friend a few days ago how I wished the visor was a separate piece (don't have the figure yet so no way for me to know) so upgrade kits could take advantage by having you disassemble the head and replace the blue visor with a red one, cause I love the red visor look on Grimlock more. I am now very surprised no ones done that yet.
Yeah, it does seem to be a sperate piece, There's probably a Reprolable of the Red visor, but yeah it's a little weird they haven't released a new visor.
Apparently from what I've heard that grimlock missing teeth is due to child safety regulation and both kingdom dinobot and beast Megatron have missing front teeth as well
@@PerspectiveEnd probably depends on the factory that manufactures it and knowing Hasbro they probably didn't care for missing teeth especially knowing that people would buy these characters regardless of inaccuracy
He is good enough, and I'd say I find him worth hunting down, but I can see how you wouldn't feel the same way, not being insane like me, and all that jazz.
Thanks for the sympathies, but it's fine. I don't hate the hunt but this is beginning to push the boundaries of my tolerance. TFsource doesn't have anything in stock on my end, it's all on pre-order all the time.
I wish I'd seen a crap ton of Deluxes, all I can find are Blurrs. No one want's Blurr and while that figure is not Terrible, I can't blame them for making him the line's Shelf Warmer.
truly this SS Grimlock feels much better than the MP version, i was very surprise the gun of the SS versions is much bigger than the MP version. fun fact: both version of there T-rex arms are actually compatible to each other, both of them has the same ball-joint size.
@@PerspectiveEnd at least the T-rex arms XD. As much i would like to see an MPGrimlock2.0, i would prefer to see the rest of the Dinobots been made. I stop getting the MP figures because of the price and the stupid amounts of re-releasing the same characters just with new engineering (MP starscream for me feels like the most offensive of this). Now i just took Mp grimlock's T-rex arms, gun and sword and gave it to the SS version, is not a perfect figure but quite a solid one, better than the MP. Plus there is also the fact the SS are doing the rest of the Dinobots on the SS line, something that Takara has no plans for them on the MP line. Truly SS Grimlock is a weapon to surpass metal gear, i can't stop having fun with it. XD
My local Walmart’s are all empty with sold out signs on everything they only have a couple of the halo infinite figures so your videos are the closest I’m getting to some of these figures rn so keep up the great videos!
@@BurntTM I wish I had the choice lol us in Canada used to have target but they went out of business here a couple of years ago, there stock was so much better when they were here tho
