In this captivating video, watch as I bring to life an impressive 8 ft phoenix sculpture using a blend of scrap and new metal. Explore the art of welding, engineering, sculpting, and metalwork as I meticulously craft this majestic creature. The wings, where copper and steel meet, create a stunning contrast, while the head, made from cutlery, adds a unique touch to this masterpiece.

Hello pal. Wow, pi! Im notan artist, but everything I know about scrapping (for CASH) comes from watching youtube channels. I have a scrapping channel, as a felliw scrapper, I always am happy to support another recycler. Liked, subbed and 🔔

Absolutely stunning, is that bolted into the ground? A strong wind could catch those wings like a sail, well done sir.

Thankyou 😁 yes the client had a concrete pad laid and it's bolted down to that all around the base

I was so glad to see Part 2 appear in my RU-vid feed this morning. It turned out beautifully. I made a raven after being inspired by part one of your phoenix. It's not as big or nearly as well done as yours but I learned a lot from it and I like it (and it sold) so, thank you. If you have time, and don't mind sharing, how do you weld the copper to steel? It looks like you're mig welding it. I look forward to your next project.

That's great to hear, I've been thinking about making a crow or raven for a while. Yes I mig weld them together, it's not a particularly strong weld but strong enough for sculptures.

@@ALoadOfOldScrap Thanks so much for replying. I had never had luck doing that.....until today after I got your message. I did short bursts of weld and it seemed to meld nicely.

Awesome! I try to direct the heat of the weld into the steel more and just bring it over onto the copper a little bit and as you said short bursts works better

Hey there From Canada! Nice Phoenix. You mentioned a grease and varnish that can be used. Mind giving me the links? Or names. Very interested to check it out. I make metal art (also have a channel) and I’ve been experimenting with different finishes and was very excited to hear of a new one. Anyhow thanks for your time and the lovely video.😊👍🙃

Thankyou very much! The oil I used was called owatrol oil and they also do a varnish that can be applied after the oil which I think is called oxid vernis. Hopefully you can get it in Canada www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/owatrol-oil/

Nice. However, there appears to be a slight anomaly in the design, particularly with the feathers not seamlessly connected along the back. Something worth considering :)

Thanks, if you mean with the scrap mosaic in the middle I decided to go that route because it honestly just looked better, I tried a few different options and liked this the most.
