Your videos are the perfect balance of specs, features, and actual real-world use cases. Best Insta360 X4 run-through...and I just watched them all. Great job David!
I have 2 X3's. One is always at the shop getting the lens fixed. The lens protectors alone made me purchase this immediately. I can't find the clip you use to connect the DJI receiver to the X4. Where did you get that?
I lost my x3 kitesurfing in the outer banks last summer so buying an x4 is an easy decision. Dude where do you get that kind of energy, every youtube should watch and deliver this kind of energy. Larry
Is the lens guard waterproof?, I use it for water sports and my X2 has a fogging issue on one side of the lens, but if I take one lens guard off and leaves the other on there is no fogging
The elephant 🐘 in the room is LOW LIGHT. Is there any improvement in that regard? And can you do an image quality comparison with the One RS 1-inch 360 camera?
Agreed. For my content capturing needs, low light performance is crucial, and I haven't found much from other reviewers yet about this. Especially after having the DJI Pocket 3, my low light hopes/expectations may be unrealistic for the X4 lol
@@IamDJFTR ' I haven't found much from other reviewers yet about this' That's because it isn't good in low light, none of the channels promoting this camera are 'reviewers' they are all paid sales people and they get a 5% commission on every sale through their affiliate links, none of them are going to mention a flaw of the product, you'll have to wait for actual reviews by people that haven't been paid to sell the camera.
It's crazy how a week ago I was minutes away from getting an X4 and then I saw somewhere that there would be an X4 coming out and I ordered that instead. Arriving this Tuesday!
Great review David as always, I had the X3 and loved it but I needed it indoors more than outdoors, so found the lowlight unusable for my needs. Do you know if this new camera has better low-light capability?
great review, glad I waited with my x2, this is the upgrade I've been waiting for - Question for you, are your lens guards the basic ones or the premium ones, what is the difference?
I've enjoyed using the Insta360 products and I'm now on my third one due to lens breakage, so it's great to hear that they now offer lens covers. I currently have the Insta360 go3 and I've just purchased the Insta360 Ace Pro. I'm curious about the low-light capabilities of the Insta360 X4; I'm interested to know if there's an improvement in that area?
I almost always hand hold while snowboarding. Mainly so that I can get multiple different angles during one run. The helmet mount and backpack mount are really cool shots though!
I'm going to stop you right there at the 3:30 mark. Screw-on lens guards?!?! Yessir! I love my X3, but I HATE the sticky lens mounts and replacing those stupid things. You don't have to tell me anything else about this camera, I'm getting the X4 simply for the screw-on lens guards.
I mentioned last year to them that this was one of the top requests that we wanted to see and they implemented it in the very net edition! That sort of speed and nimble feature iteration is why I love Insta360 so much. They listen to the people and then deliver!
@@DavidManningvlog They have easily become my go-to action camera when kayaking, driving around, just messing around with my family. Thank you for passing that message along to them from probably 97% of Insta360 X3 users/lovers. Great video, as always. I'm going to the DR in June... I will probably have to get my hands on this before then.
David - I have a question on the Insta360 X4 - Is the 8K spread out over the 360 degree of view? When you are editing the video on post production the clip are you using is much less than 8K?
David, can the X4 be used as a studio camera or an action camera like the AcePro now or is the 360 lens capture still too odd for that kind of regular use?
I'm not sure your exact use case, but if it's stationary it does fairly well in lower light situations, but this camera does definitely appreciate a good bit of light
Just got my X4. Amazing! Still learning things as well as my Ace Pro I got 2 weeks ago. Thanks for the video cause honestly I was going to get the X3 but I’m glad I waited.
@@MtnXfreeride exactly I wish these RU-vid videos also put a dropbox link in the description with the full Rez Time-lapse is/some of the RAW footage from the video
I know it’s diff use cases. But I have an X3x just bought an Ace Pro. Primarily for the dash cam. I don’t shoot a ton of video and the dash cam adds ROI. The x4 has dash cam. Do I return my Ace Pro and sell my x3 and get the x4? Or keep the x3 and Ace Pro??? 🤷🏼♂️ Gotta figure out what gives me the best benefit. I know the use cases are diff. I’d live the low light of the Ace Pro. I hike and bike. I could keep 2 cams and run Ace Pro up front and x3 in back? First world problems making this choice. Lol
Been a while David. Heard about the camera and headed to your site. Content excellent but an entertaining and well put together review. Like others, interest in low light. Oddly, one of the most appealing features is the lens cover: totally necessary and a slick implementation. Best wishes to you.
The lens covers are MASSIVE for me! Takes away so much anxiety of using these things without covers. I think the 360 camera world hasn’t really addressed low light specifically yet because there’s already so much processing already happening on board to create the 360 photo/videos. Maybe we’ll see a low light mode in future versions!
Hi, how much does this camera weigh now? I broke a selfie stick last week while snowboarding. Take a look at me (the penultimate video of the announcement) how it happened. I see that you are also very active on the boards, isn't this camera a little heavy now?
Yeah man love your enthusiasm and every camera I have bought since watching your channel has been just wow the X4 arrives tomorrow👍🏾 shall i keep x3 ? Or have both
I’ve really appreciated your videos over the generations of the Xs and other 360 cameras. Thank you! So the question in my mind now is whether a new model of the Insta360 1 inch line is around the corner? And if so, will it be ‘the one’ to get?
The Pocket 3 is going to be more cinematic it has the one inch sensor. I have one and the quality is phenomenal. I also have an X2 and will probably get this. I use it on my motorcycle. The ability to reframe shots is amazing. But remember this thing is 8k for the entire field so it is not as high resolution as the 4k Pocket 3. If you get the Pocket 3 get the combo with the mic. It’s a cool little package.
I had just purchased an X.3 to upgrade from my Xone that I’ve had for several years. The resolution boost has me wondering if topaz would be a great way to upscale your X.3 footage.
Biggest announcement in 360 world for me! I have the sony a7r v , dji osmo pocket 3 but this is the one I was waiting for. I had the x3 and sold it with hopes that x4 will come this year, and here it is!!! I was hoping for 1'' sensor but probably will be much bigger. Anyway, is better than x3. Thank you so much!
I have a Dji mini 3 pro. Will the footage be close to the quality of my drone. I have a Dji action 2 and I pair the video together and looks good. Will x4 match?
Overall informative review. But I'd love to see low-light and night performance tests of the Insta360 X4 in your review. Bit disappointment in the lack of coverage on that part.
Hey, David. I really hope you see this and could help out. I heard there’s a Low Light mode on the X4 but cant find any videos on it. Can you tell us if youve any insight on that and maybe if youve done anything with it. Thanks
Awesome video dude! Thanks for nerding out onto the numbers with 2.7k in 8k30 reframing and on the read/write+wifi speed! Hadn’t come accross those yet! Thanks for throwing the marketing bs in to factual data! Now I know I can order it!
Great job David as always. After using the X3 all weekend with ski gloves on, I wish the start and stop button was larger like a GoPro start stop button . I always had to take my glove off to hit start and stop. Otherwise the X3 is amazing and will probably upgrade to the X4 based on your review. 🤙🏻
I stopped using the X3 because the video quality wasn’t great. You could tell it came from an action camera. But now x4 looks amazing. I am not a fan of the warping that these action camera produce. How “flat” or linear can you make the shots look like after shooting 360?
Nice review Dave, looking at the footage I can't help but notice it seems to stutter a lot, really noticeable on the stripy roof top at 1:03 but also present in other places??
Great vid as always. Camera looks leagues ahead of anything else out there. Even compared to the x3. Definitely on my shopping list. Alongside the dji pocket 3.
That's a tough question... I LOVE my Ace Pro, but gun to my head I have to pick one, I'm going X4 all day. While I get more use out of my Ace Pro day to day, the X4 is by far my favorite action camera. The footage coming out of this thing is just bananas!
I’ve been a loyal GoPro guy since the hero 5. Been waiting to see if they’ll bring back a newer 360 action camera but no rumors about it…. Is it safe to say Insta360 is the new 360 king? If so, I’m going with the X4!!!!
Can I hook the DGI mic2 up directly to the X4? Like through Bluetooth or wireless? Or do I have to use the receiver and an audio jack on the X4 if it has one?
That’s a tough call! Probably depends on use case. The 1” is going to be better for lowlight situations, but the X4 now has the AI chip in there and 8K mode is so good!
@@DavidManningvlog I think you did this a long time ago but would you possibly do another video on editing 360 footage. It's the thing that puts me off using my x3 and what would stop me buying the x4...
Which do you think would be better for filming in low light, like in your kids night football game at a well lit field. Do you think the X4 or the Ace Pro? What the real issue would be is occasionally slow-mo while zooming in on a subject to catch a play on one subject while trying to maintain a clear shot. So which camera would you choose?
thank you. I have been using the ace pro for a few weeks. It works good, but when zooming in or slowing the speed down to get those great catches his face gets out of focus and the slowmo gets too blurry. That’s setting the ace pro to pure video, 4K at 30 set on action. I’m thinking about trying to set it on video, 4K at 50 and action to see how that does. I’m not a photographer I’m just a regular dad and grandpa trying to get the best videos of the kids. I guess the next step would be to buy one of those 2 to 3 thousand dollar cameras with a 1 to 2 thousand dollar lens if I wanted clearer videos and better slowmo at night games. I don’t think that will happen, 🤣🤣. But I do appreciate all the help and information, thank you very much.
Yeah, anything that relies on the thickness of the camera to fit. So cages won’t work with the new camera, but the mic mounts that go up the side of the camera will work👍
Great overview. 👍🏻 Can the cámara be plugged in and used while charging? For example if I wanted to use it as a dash cam while riding my motorcycle? Would it also work on a continuous loop, writing over the SD card when full? Or would it just stop when it reached the capacity of the card? Thanks
@@SteveSmith-xw7xi Thanks Steve, glad to hear it. Do you know if it the recordings will loop on the SD card if the camera if kept running? i.e. once the card is full it will continue to record by erasing the earlier footage?
How is the screen in the water when surfing? So far Osmo Action1, Action 4 and One X2 they all have moments when the screen acts up because of drops dripping or wave splashes and it takes you out of the moment. Pretty annoying sometimes
The screen is really solid in the water, but once I get all my settings dialed in, I swipe down from the top and lock the screen. That way I can still start/stop my video with the buttons, but errant water drops don’t accidentally switch things on me👍
Hey David, X3 user from Singapore. Love all your videos. 2 questions. Does the card reader and mic adapter from the X3 work on the X4? Can you do a comparison with the standard lens guard with the premium lens guard.
Due to ride my motorbike around mainland europe for a few months - was considering GoPro 12 - however now I have seen this - Ive seen 360 before but the footage always looks like the motorbike is riding on jelly - what would you recommend for great video footage ?
it looks exactly the same for the X4, like crap... just look at the bright under the sun shots... they look dark as heck... still has crappy 1/2" sensor smaller than every single action camera out there
Looks like a cool update. Can you do some test comparing the X4 and X3 in low light situations like in a house with lights on. I'm most interested for 3D house walk thru type scenarios or for mapping Hotel rooms and A BnB etc. And then of course night exteriors would be cool to see. How much noise in picture in comparison and how bad is flaring from bright lights. Thanks For always doing helpful informative stuff. Thanks David
I feel like it's really weird that the X4 isn't compatible with the magnetic/clip mount that comes with the Ace Pro. It even has two small slots on the bottom that LOOK like they should accommodate the magnetic/clip mount, until you try it and realise it's damn close but no actual fit. Easily could've been made to work!
