Great job on this one, Andy! I really like how the decals, rear triangle and cassette all match. I also like that you don't let yourself be limited by the way the frame was built. You want cable stops somewhere else? You go for it! You're very bold and I admire that. I've really enjoyed all your videos. Thanks for putting yourself out there for our entertainment. Keep it up, Andy!

My first decent mtb was a Mongoose IBOC chromoly hardtail. Best thing I ever bought because when the downtube broke on a trail ride Mongoose gave me full warranty coverage. They allowed to trade up to their top of the line titanium frame--Mongoose Triomphe for $350. Frame built in USA by Titanium Sports Technologies. I could never have affirded such a frame any other way. I still ride it today with XTR 965 group picked up new on Ebay at great prices. Nice build you have there!

Be aware that some aftermarket OSPW have open ceramic bearings, they will run fine for the first 100km. After that they will usually degrade very fast, keep your old pully wheel or switch the bearings from the old wheel to the new one.

Kudos for this interesting job. Especially when you are on a budget. I'd have done a few things differently anyway : 1. Preparing frame and fork before the paint job. 2. Stick / glue on the cable guides on the fork as well instead of fixing the cable housing with cable ties. 3. Go for pulley wheels with larger bearings as from Leonardi Racing. 4. Go for Ritchey Ergo Max handlebar and a stem with higher angle instad of bunch of spacers. One question : The XTR Shifter fits as intended in terms of ergonomics?
@AndyEFonYouTube

Thanks! The shifter clamp need to be wedged wider to fit, and will also need longer bolt to clamp it properly

Two notes. First was the whole disc brake set up …. Second was you should have installed a derailleur hanger which would have allowed for cleaner shifting on suck a large cassette But the frame is super sweet …Well done !!
@AndyEFonYouTube
@AndyEFonYouTube 2 года назад
Thanks! The disc setup was temporary. The front now uses proper IS mount fork and the rear uses much sturdier 4 points sandwich adapter. Totally no flex and dependable. The not so smooth shifting was really due to KCNC cassette optimized for SRAM XD chains, I used Shimano XTR 12 speed chains which apparently have thicker outer wall. And that contributed to some abrasion between cogs. The XTR RD is GS spec so it has no issues with reach even over 52t

Nice build. One concern I noticed was the seatpost, which seems too short. I reckon, minimum insertion length was not met.
@AndyEFonYouTube
@AndyEFonYouTube 2 года назад
Thanks. It is indeed short. I am just 167cm in height and the seatpost has been cut to suit me, with ample space for the inset part to sit precisely at the chainstay tubes and top tube section, furthermore the frame seatpost tube is long enough to make up the desired length. In short, anybody taller than 167cm and with Crankset of 175cm will not be able to use it 😅

@AndyEFonYouTube
@AndyEFonYouTube 2 года назад
Thanks. The disc setup were really makeshift solutions for this video as now I am already running on proper disc mount carbon fork for front. The rear has been changed as well with a newer type of adapter you can find easily in Aliexpress. Don't go for the steel adapter like what I did, they flex under stress. Get the sandwich type which is built on aluminum plate and with 4 bolts mounting. Those are super secure

I absolutely love the creativity but I am a bit weary of the shifting and cabling to the derailleur. I believe the chain tension is the main cause of issues. when setting the cable tension for the derailleur you typically don't have a chain on yet. that comes after.
@AndyEFonYouTube
@AndyEFonYouTube 2 года назад
You are right, all issues resolved after I added 2 chain links. The chain used were cut for 32/10-51 stock XTR as was used on my MTB, obviously with 36/9-52 I needed proper slack. Also, it goes even better after I removed one spacer from the drive side BB. So it's all about fine tuning after all

Sorry I didn't record that part. I forgot to press the record button on my phone which was strapped to my chest, lol. Silly me. But really they are Aliexpress Adapters. And I messed up with the mounting bolts and grinded off some section to fit the frame. But I have changed the rear one already to a better unit which is made of aluminum with steel plate, more solid
@addy8844
@addy8844 2 года назад
I just don't get it. You are using all those high end components, but despite all of that you are doing such an amateurish/sloppy job on the frames, using super glue for the bosses and all those sketchy adapters. Just why? A nice paintjob doesn't replace the bike's safety.
@AndyEFonYouTube
@AndyEFonYouTube 2 года назад
That super glue lasted until today intact. Even with the stress from the brake lines. The brakes are just temporary, as the front fork now uses proper IS disc mount. The rear uses very solid aluminum plate adapter sandwich which doesn't flex under duress

@AndyEFonYouTube
@AndyEFonYouTube 2 года назад
Thanks. Retro MTBs normally are already using 28.6mm forks. So despite being threaded, they have similar diameter to non treaded forks. You can get 34mm headsets and combine them to work. In my case, I used a fork extender adapter to provide enough length for the stem to fit in. May require a bit of experimenting on your end to see how they will fit
