For this race, both RCs are completely stock, meaning we took the rc monster trucks out of the box plugged in batteries and started running them. It is important to remember that both RC trucks are amazing and both have their pros and cons. Obviously, one truck is at an advantage with weight while the other has a disadvantage because it is built to pop wheelies and perform stunts. However, you guys wanted to see this! TheRcSaylors looks like a stiffer center diff (relative to weight) in the X is the reason it pulled. Notice the rear wheels are turning on the X but not on the Kraton. I bet with a thicker oil it would be a much easier win and the weight would take over. Also, mounting height on the rear. The higher the hitch on the vehicle relative to its competitor, (all other factors being equal such as two Kraton as with same batts) the more likely it will win as it will use the weight of the other vehicle by lifting it more than pulling it. Once you lift it, you are heavier and can pull more while it is lighter. Although it’s hard to make that an exact science with differing chassis center of gravity’s. As a side note (aside from the Kraton’s lower COG) the stiffer differential is a large factor in why it wheelies so easily compared to the Kraton. With a thinner center diff oil, it is much easier to control yet also looses some launch speed. It would be fun to experiment and tune these. Maybe you could tone the Xmaxx down a bit and make the Kraton a bit faster, more wild and more “bashier” (did I invent a new word) with thicker diff oil.
Kraton 8s has an open center diff causing it to send all power to the wheels with the least traction. If they could lock up the center diff it would win easily
Cool Test! This also shows the big difference in the center diffs. The Xmaxx Cush drive allowed the rear wheels to spin and the Kraton 1million weight diff shunted most of the power to the front. If the Kraton has thicker Center diff it could send more power to the rear, then with its extra weight would have pulled away every time. Overall I’m quite impressed with the Xmaxx performance even though it lost overall.
Ive been bashing this truck a lot,,,,,it’s just to heavy,,,already people are bending chassis......mine bent along with the center the center tower to tower brace as well as cracking the rear bulk head an stripping the diff gears.....no parts available,,,,plus they cost almost double than most other units,,,,,expensive repairs without a doubt.....I guess I’ll just save up for the repairs,,,,,it’s just to heavy and costly....a good highly durable plastic is the best ,,,it flexes instead of bending,,,and costs half the money,,,I’m starting to get buyers remorse,,,this also happened to my kraton and talion,,,sheesh....oh well ,all part of the hobby...can you believe it the chassis alone is over 100.00....DARN.....just sayin......
Both great trucks, should do a dirt tug of war pull so all 4 wheels get to spinning, I was cringing watching this I was waiting for one of the diffs to explode out the rear end.
That was pretty cool. I love this new Kraton 8S but the XMaxx will always be the King basher for me. Maybe I’ll change my mind once I get the Kraton but I just don’t think so, it’s a different type of rig in general. Bash on!🤘🏻👊🏻
I think the result came down to the road. It might look level, but sometimes you don't realise but gravity is stronger on one side, even when ground is level. Please bash them together next video!! Or destruction derby ahaha XD

I'd like to see a rematch with the chain attached lower on the chassis of both, to put all the wheels into the action. In this battle, the front ends were being levered off the ground too much. Perhaps a strap from the front of each, run under the chassis....
Sure it's level, but a little difference in traction due to roughness could make the difference in that close battle. Not that I expect you to do _another_ video, but changing locations for a few rounds would help to balance out surface variations.
Surprising results. I thought weight would have been a factor. Makes me wonder how the Losi Super Rock Rey or the Super Baja Rey would stack up. I've seen X-Maxx vs SRR and it was dead even. Kraton is 1/5 scale, should do a tug of war vs the DBXL-E. I know who'd win that match and with ease. Kraton in my mind is much more a 1/6 scale than it is 1/5.
You do realise whoever was on the right side lost ecerytime right? Besides, the xmaxx was on the right 3 times, and lost 3 times, and the keratin was on the right twice, and it lost twice. I think that they're even.
This is a brilliant video showing the differences in the drivetrain too! The xmaxx has a planetary system and you can see how well is works here compared to the Kraton that has a center diff. Thus the front wheels going into pizza cutters. Thicker oil in that it would of won every time. Awesome video you guys! 💪🏼🔥
It was suprising how well X-Maxx handle situation, for me it was underdog because higher center of gravity. But yeah, i think surface also make difference and when video has been done by Sailors, changing sides maybe not was coincidence 🤭
I don't like to say it but the plastic chassie on the x is way more durable chassis all bend on the armas wen u take them over the limit I'm not a traxxas fan at all just sayn
Surprisingly amazed at the results. I would have thought the xmaxx would have more torque and power overall than the kraton. But I'm sad to say the kraton was winning no contest. Rear tires on the kraton wasnt even spinning so all the power was in the front tires. So results are FWD kraton beats 4wd xmaxx in tug of war.
That was cool. You should consider a set of Duratrax six pack X wheels to replace the Kraton wheels. They are belted and both super grippy and really strong. Worth every penny.

@@Shortsircut1 hasn't won so far in bashing videos, look at how many have bent chassis and broken a-arms in the first 10 to 20 mins of bashing first time out. XMaxx proves once again that the plastic chassis is not only stronger it also flexes better. Steel chassis on a basher is just idiotic. Leave the steel chassis for on-road racers where they belong.
@@jamesstubbs8954 Typical traxxas fan boi, I was speaking specifically of this video, and the chassis is aluminum, not steel. Not that traxxas is a bad vehicle, it is actually quite good, however Arrma is just better! No one bashes like Rich Duperbash, and he has not had any trouble to speak of.
The Kraton 8s doesn't have enough center Diff fluid. Arrma sucks at building their own Diffs. lol. Out the box the XMAX is the king of bash! Add RPM arms and m2c chassis on the Kraton it becomes virtually indestructible. The XMAX is so fun to bash because it drives like a cartoon character. its always goofy and out of control which melts my little RC heart. 😂
Not really a fair tug of war, the Kraton has center diff thats why the front tires are just spinning. Put a thicker diff fluid or lock the center diff and try it again. The Kraton will probably win then.
Am I seeing the Kraton pull the Maxx with its front tires? If the Kraton has a million weight in the center diff I would have thought it wouldnt diff out that bad. I guess when I buy the Kraton I will put some silly putty in the center?!
The spinning front wheel does not benefit the kraton much. Center diff tuning should give it at bit more rear traction. Stock punch on kraton is also a bit low. The chain size showes this is big rig league :) nice video with two very nice trucks.
We switched off and addressed this in our video. The Kraton started off driving more tame, then as the Tug Of War went on was driven much more aggressively. It was a sheer coincidence.
ahh the old "who has the thicker center diff fluid" challenge. Its alot like the "who has the longer wheel base" or "who has the forward weight bias" challenges.
I called the winner before you started. On the last pull the chain was a bit further on the side of the Xmaxx side. If it had of won I would have said that could have been the reason but the Kraton got the jump and evened the chain out. Next time mark the center of the chain that way you know it is fair for both. That was a blast !
If you want to put these trucks to a fair test on power alone adjust the shocks on the xmaxx to lower it and add some weight to its front end. Since the xmaxx has proven it can pull a car I have tested this out my self and it will pull a 2013 dodge dart. I wonder what a kraton 8s would do hooked up to a light car.
I had x max in my storage and someone broke in and stole it. I had leopard 1050 in it.. I never got a chance to really run it after the motor switch because I needed the right battery pack and never ordered it smh
Should switch vehicles for the same amount of times and see who wins that and base your end results off of both. Or to make it fair put weights in the one till they weigh the same
You should redo this test but instead of hooking the chain to the back run it under each truck to the front behind the front wheels. It will.force each truck to go down on all 4s
Great war. FYI, I have purchased 4 Arrma RC's and I don't why but of them had tires that where not glued out of the box, so now i check them right after box opening.
Think abbey would of won it if you didn't switch side's! Abbey already had her groove set from the first two runs! And the ground hot from all that rubber she was laying down! Awesome video! Both vehicles still running well 👍 We tested them both for about 10 solid minutes of good hard bashing and speed passes. Nothing showing any signs of breakage. Yeah, a lot of possible variables here. We did our best to keep it as fair and fun as possible 👍⚓😎
Thats not fair since X-Maxx has 20 million putty in center diff and Kraton 8s got 1 million. The difference between 20 million 1 million in center diff is substantial high and Im suprised Kraton won because it shouldnt given the big gap in diff oil.
What you guys need is, a tractor pull sled for rc vehicles. It would eliminate all the tiny variables trying to get 2 people to go at the same time would have. whoever is counting down is always going to go just a fraction faster than the other person, for instance, or if its a timer, then it could come down to whoever reacts faster. In both cases they go just a tiny fraction faster and get that tiny advantage, would also eliminate any side advantage, like in this case the left rc won every time, even if the ground is level, could be the right side for whatever reason just didnt provide as much traction. Not to mention it would be super cool to see these 1/5 scales kicking up clouds of dust pulling a tractor pull sled. And whoever won would come down to just 1 thing, at what point when adding weight to the sled, is the vehicle no longer able to pull it across the finish line
As we explained in this video, it wasnt about the sides, it was just ironic that it's how it turned out. I (Nate) ended up pushing harder with more initial throttle as the Tug of War progressed with each round, so I believe if I would have went hard out of the gate each time the Kraton would have won every time. I do like your sled idea though. At the end of the day, we had FUN and both RCs came home working great! 👍⚓😎
Blimey you sure your rear diffs are ok after that lot if you do any more tug of wars with any trucks please do on gravel it looks better and all 4 or should I say 8 wheels spinning certainly looks great in slow motion or normal motion gravel flying every where This tug of war was flat No Action at all sorry 😐 but there it is
Doing the pulls on dirt, gravel or even grass would have made more sense, and saved that tyre too! Also, even if it was dead flat I'm not convinced that the grain of that tarmac didn't contribute to the result either, as every win went left. 😉🤣
Yes, there is always something we could do differently with the videos we make. I'm sure if we did it on another surface, there would be some other factor that we cant imagine that everyone would be suggesting we did wrong. At the end of the day, we had Fun 👍⚓😎
No, while that is a good thought, it is sheer irony. If I would have driven the Kraton consistently it would have won every time. I eased on the to juice on the first couple rounds. 👍⚓😎
How about a hill climb? Both head-to-head and timed? You'd need to find a more challenging hill than the one we regularly see in your hill climb videos.
Just a suggestion,Y’all should use a small rope instead of a heavy chain to help keep the front of the trucks on the ground for better traction .and keep it tied low by the axle .

Watched the first three tug of wars, I thought the same as you guys XD you need to put some thicker center diff oil in the Kraton, even with 2.5 million weight diff fluid, it's still not enough because it's SOOO heavy! Use the Traxxas 20mill weight fluid, its much thicker and that's why it helps the X-Maxx.

It'll just help it put down its power EVEN BETTER than it already does and be able to pull stunts like backflips and wheelies more easily too (also makes it more comparable to the X-Maxx) Thanks again for the awesome vid!
