8th Gen Civic Rear Wheel Stud Replacement: Dadmobile gets new wheels!
By Aaron Gaghagen
Having basic things go wrong on Project Dadmobile is kind of a thing for me lately. You know, the kind of annoying little things that turn into big headaches. Like taking off a wheel and tire. I've done it tons of times with no drama. But, when I went to install my brand new set of Konig Hypergrams wrapped in Falken Tire goodness, triumph turned to despair doing the most basic, routine action of taking off a lug nut.
Luckily, fixing a snapped rear wheel stud in an 8th gen is something that can be done without any specialized tools. Now Dadmobile is riding on sticky Falken rubber and lightweight Flow Formed Konig wheels that save 4 pounds on each corner even though they are wider than the OEM wheels they replaced.

Costco broke the stud, now I need to replace it. That just doubled the price of tires. Thanks for the video, and dramatic music. I’ll do it myself.

Wow, this seems to be common, this just happened to me! I filed a claim but they already said they're going to blame Firestone for it because I got an alignment done there the day before. They never took any lug nuts off...

Broken wheel studs are a fact of life in the Midwest. I’ve snapped a few on my 9th gen Si.

Hmmm... Aaron lived in Minnesota for two years, so maybe that's the culprit.

Lisle sells a really nifty tool for doing these. I did this on my older Avalon, it was really easy even with my crappy Craftsman cordless impact. Toyota was nice and put a factory cutout on the front steering knuckle for clearance for installing the studs.

Once we put a groove into the knuckle so we could get clearance. I'm not sure I would recommend that, but we had an emergency.

@@VTECAcademy yep.. I've done it. Sounds sketchy but it works in a pinch. Can grind a flat spot on the bolt head too
