Video 9 of 10 in a series that shows each step in upgrading a West German P226 to P226 Legion specs. This video shows how to add the low profile slide catch and decocking lever like the one in the P226 Legion, as well as a modern matching take-down lever and checkered magazine catch. Followed this video and was able to change my control levers out in about 10 minutes, taking my time. Thank you very much for the detailed instructions! Very easy to do if you follow these well demonstrated instructions

I am purchasing a used P226. Your series is very helpful. I love to tinker with my guns and make them hopefully more functional and accurate. Your video series is great. Thank you for making these well done videos.

The Bob Ross of Firearms how to videos. you're VERY informative, and it's much appreciated. I was looking for an alternative to the larger slide release on my older(Denmark) P226. MANY THANKS!

I’m watching this video a few years down the line and it still relevant today. The only thing is he didn’t touch on was the hammer replacement. That would have made the project complete, in my opinion.

Thanks fof this video! I have always had an issue with the slide lock lever and catching it either pushing id down or up resulting in locking back after the first shot or failure to lock back upon an empty mag. I have asked Sig numerous times...and they never answer. I will be doing this ASAP! Thanks!

Only issue I ever had with this was the plate for the magazine catch. For some reason that plate was stuck on with force on mine. Ended up having to use a flat blade screw driver and small hammer to get it off there. And to get it back on there.

Speaking from personal experience, My preference would be to retain the regular P226 slide catch. In spite of the fact that the Legion version is sexier, its lower profile makes it more difficult for me to engage during type-3 malfunction drills.

Not that you'd ever have a Type-3 malfunction with a P226...

Hey I know this is an older video, I just installed this part. I'm getting slide lock automatically without a magazine. A West German with original grips. I'm assuming the lever is not sitting low enough and allowing upward pressure on slide? Do I need to modify the grip slightly?

I lost that little detent on the mag button when I went to change mine. It shot off like a rocket into some dark corner of my workshed. Cost me $20 to overnight a new one from Midway. Oops. 😬

Hey Steve, I installed the trigger, SRT, G10 grips, decocking lever, and the slide lock lever on a P226 MK25. The slide lock lever is catching/binding on the grip, any advice?

Oh man it's the best series of 226 mods!!! I have a MK25, do you think I should do some of the upgrades? Like SRT kit, main spring kit and those low profile control levers?

Can you put low profile controls without switching the grips. I like tac ops grips.

Do you find this helps with the thumbs forward grip with riding the slide release? I've learned to adjust my grip, but it still happens from time to time.
@SteveJenkins
@SteveJenkins 8 лет назад
Hi +Phillip Redding. I've heard that's one of the reasons for the low profile controls, but I don't have large hands, so riding the release wasn't an issue for me. If it happens to you from time to time, then yes - I'd give this mod a shot!
@jackhammer8439

+Phillip Redding I am hoping it will. I have always had this issue with mine. I have even tried changing my grip but I always end up hitting it. I am hopeful.

Hi +Brian Pfeuffer. I've got a chart on the last page of this article that gives you links and prices for all the upgrade parts I used: www.realgunreviews.com/upgrade-a-west-german-sig-sauer-p226-to-legion-specs/

Great video, I have a couple legions and I really like the slide lock lever on them much more than my other sigs... does the lever you used on this 226 from the 224 work on a 229? thanks.
@SteveJenkins
@SteveJenkins 8 лет назад
You bet! 226 and 229 use all the same controls (trigger, takedown lever, slide lock, decocker, mag release).

@@BigMeatSunday I just purchased a new 226 legion rx and the slide lock is the most difficult part of the entire gun. To the point that I ordered a standard size slide lock because I have such a terrible time locking the slide with that tiny little lever. Did you have any similar issues with it ?
@CLARKakaSIX

Can these 224 parts be used to upgrade a 229? I want to make pretty much the same upgrades as you've done in this series, with the exception of the slide catch, and use a gray guns flat trigger instead of the PSAIT. Also, where did you purchase all these parts?
@wisewhiterabbit
@wisewhiterabbit 6 лет назад
I'm guessing you have to remove the locking block to replace the slide catch ? I just bought a p220 legion in 10mm. I absolutely hate the little release button

I have the same issue with my p226 legion slide catch, friggin little thing is a pain in the azz. I just ordered a standard size one from Brownells

Edward Byrd It’s not a slide release. It’s a slide CATCH!!! Do not use it to ride the slide home. That is not it’s intended purpose. The smaller controls prevent guys with larger hands from ridding on it while shooting accidentally causing the slide to not lock back on the last round. Grab the slide and pull back & release to ride the slide home.

I have hearing loss and as a result I wear headphones and the volume up when watching videos.When I clicked on yours, the opening few seconds of a blasting engine almost blew my eardrums out. My first time watching your videos and for sure, the last. I would have thought that someone who is involved in shooting would be more thoughtful about LOUD noises.

Late to the party here, but is anyone having issues with the slide catch staying locked and not being able to be depressed to let the slide move forward? Only drops if I pull the slide back

Hi Steve, I like all 10 of the Series. One question. According to the Hogue web site the G10 Checkered Grips will not fit the Legion due to the close fit controles. From the Hogue web site: SIG Sauer P226 Checkered G10 - Black Will NOT fit the 226 Legion. Controls were made to hug tighter to the frame than standard 226 models. The slide release will not function on the Legion with Hogue grips installed.? However in #9 of the series you install the 224 (Legion) controls and the G10 Grips?
@SteveJenkins

Hi, Joseph. I don't know what to say, other than it seems to work perfectly fine on this P226, and on a few others on which I've seen the same mod!
