As a freelance photographer, I recognise that I’m a mess tracking my expenses and all my income sources. Now even more with my channel, affiliates etc. It’s where I fail the most! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m gonna start saving that 10% of every client’s payment. Also, track every single thing I spend which is a lot in the creative industry! 🤦🏻‍♀️ THANKS A LOT for the tips! Soooo useful! ❤️

your distinction between an "emergency fund" that you don't touch and a "buffer" that covers the little things is an important one! new car tires, water heater, broken dishwasher etc. these are not emergencies. they happen, getting hit by a car and not being able to work for 5 months because you are in the hospital is an emergency, and an emergency fund will make sure you don't lose your house. more people need to understand this.

This was great! However when people say eat the rich IT IS NEVER on an individual per se is more of the system i.e. corporations that they’ve created that unfortunately keeps many people poor or living paycheck to paycheck. Billionaires only exists because the vast majority the people they employed are heavily under paid and many are also employed as “contractors” so the company can skip on providing benefits to their employees….so, there’s a lot more nuance to that, than hating the rich..🤷🏽‍♀️

Speaking as a former bank employee, banks are a business, and they charge fees because that's how they make money off you. They're not charitable organizations that store your cash. In fact, the reason I quit working there was because management was always pressuring us to get our poorest clients even further into debt by selling them cards, accounts, and loans they didn't need, and I just couldn't do it. So yeah, it's super important to shop around for different banks/credit unions. I would never let the bank I worked for touch my money. Edit: Love love love this new channel, and can't wait for the next video!

"Eat the rich" doesn't refer to every single rich person. It's referring usually referring to the 1% of the 1% ( a category you don't fall under for example ) as well as people who earn their wealth by exploiting others ( again, a category you don't fall under ). Jeff Bezos is a perfect example of an individual that comes to mind when people are ranting about the rich. He's not just some millionaire - he's enormously wealthy, and on top of that the working conditions at Amazon warehouses suck, they don't get paid enough considering how hard they have to work, and Amazon has recently taken away some of the benefits they were giving those workers. So yes, if you become a billionaire by treating the individuals that made you rich like shit, you deserve to be eaten. This doesn't mean I hate the RU-vid lady who got rich via photography, traveling and money management. It just means I dislike people who earn wealth on the backs of the most vulnerable and desperate members of our society and then barely compensate them for it.
@karinwolfova3130
@karinwolfova3130 3 года назад
To be honest, I did work for Amazon for almost 4 years.. and it was completely my choice to do so. I was grateful for having a job and it was quite the best paid in the city, when I consider that you dont need any qualification for it. It's only point of view. Yes it would have been nicer to have more money or longer breaks.. but still, every worker choses to work there, its not a prison. So I left after 4 years when I felt it didn't work for me anymore. Everybody has that choise. And I felt I was treated well, just some things from management didn't make really sense..
@kearafox
@kearafox 3 года назад
THANK YOU!!!! I found a lot of value in this video but that note at the end was a little ignorant in my opinion. Beliefs like "maybe I could be as rich as Jeff Bezos one day.. if I wOrK hArD eNoUgH" only contributes to wealth inequality. It's a belief that the ultra-wealthy have instilled in us to avoid getting held accountable for their unjust actions/business practices.

I sort of disagree with the expensive hobby thing. It depends greatly on how much value it brings to your life. I would argue shopping does not provide all that much value if it is a hobby. However, I road and mountain bike, both of which provide tremendous value to my health and well being. I DO NOT mind spending money on those things and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. Now, I don't think they cost much more than $150-200 a month if I amortize them over the life of the bikes, so it is not that bad. I also have my financial health in order and save about half my income, so its not like these things are harming my finances.

I used to own a lot of expensive vintage photography equipment. Leica's, Hasselblad's.. I spent a LOT of money on that gear, but I knew they were getting more rare the more time goes on. Great advice; sharing the vid with my (newly adult) kids. My father taught me these lessons at an early age and I'm here to share that this absolutely works over the long term. Self doubt or responsibility deflection (focusing on "eat the rich") are the things that keep you down; hard to get a stalled car moving.

Took notes on the video in my new finance notebook! 10/10 would recommend doing the same. While writing down notes I already identified first steps that I can take. 1. Relating to habit 4: I can sit down this weekend and look at my spending for last month to get an idea of what’s going on. 2. Relating to habit 8: I can get in touch with my bank and ask about any bank fees I am paying and if there is a cheaper option. Also I can check all my subscriptions and check if they add value. I think those two steps are already a great start! Thanks Sorelle!

I'm definitely interested in learning more about finance, but there's something on my mind and I'd love to hear your thoughts about it - what about living a very simple life without the need for wealth? Like growing your own food, building your own furniture, etc. Is it just a lifestyle preference?
@CristianNebunu

Agree with most of what was said, if you struggle definitely cut the expenses you can live without, otherwise, saving up maybe $1500 a year in subscriptions won't get you very far and will cut into much-needed relaxation time. I am sure this will be talked about at some point, but find something you are good at, get better at it and then teach other people how to do it - this to me is the best way to start increasing your income

The Richest Man in Babylon is my favourite wealth creation book, too. It reads like a novel, but is about strategies that help you manage your money in a way that will lead you to wealth. One of the most simple and profound messages in the book for me was when an egg seller was asked what would happen if he put 10 eggs in his basket every morning, and only took 9 out at night? The seller replied that his basket would eventually overflow. This is a great analogy for paying yourself first with 10% of your income, and demonstrates that your wealth will eventually overflow if you do the same.

"Eat the rich" is not about hating money, it's a political statement related to the differences that capitalism and systemic discrimination create and the lack of opportunities to bridge that gap. Eat those who are on top to share their wealth with everyone else because we all deserve to have a good life.

Hi Daniela G. I think that as all political even that one is crap. There is nowhere written that we all deserve the same. And personally I don't think so. You are almost calling for a socialism or even beyond communism and if I can express that I hate something in my life that is this. Non of it is beneficial for people non of it bringing personal interest. So sorry but no. It seems to me like you want to have all what the people who care have but you want to have it without the care. Why?

You should invest your savings as soon as possible to generate passive income. Because inflation is "eating" your money much faster than you'll ever notice the 6% bank interest. 6% is nothing... I highly recommend reading Kiyosaki's "Rich dad poor dad" and "Cashflow quadrat". Basically, with just these two, you know a little bit of everything about financial freedom.

Hi Sorelle - loving your new channel and thank you for these tips. I really needed to hear them :) I have a question regarding your tax strategy. Of course, these shortcuts are technically legal, but how do you justify not paying tax when it's used to help social services like healthcare and housing? Always curious to hear other viewpoints from my own, and would love to get more insight on this. Big fan of yours, can't wait to see what else you release on this channel! x
@Abundantiaco

I don't justify paying no tax. But I do justify using means to legally lower tax, if the government allows it. Most people are just missing out on simple tax savings because they're not educated as to what can be claimed, or used to reduce your legal tax rate. For example here in Iceland, the government will allow you to deduct a portion of your income each year when you spend on your own education, which in my opinion is something worthwhile and easy to pursue.

@gebozinhomalvado9086

I am not aware of the context of the phrase (not living in an english speaking country). I can see what she's trying to hint at though: the good ol' "rich people are bad and selfish" coming from some religious cultures. While it is good to lead a simple life (it actually helps with finances as far as I see it), it's not good but rather unhealthy even to hold an antagonistic view against money and people who have money because they manage it properly and invest wisely. Money is just that: money. It's a concept, translated into bills and coins, a tool for bargaining and negotiating. It's only evil if you use it for evil. With that said, there is quite a load of rich fat cats who oppress the poor with their business antics. I don't think she was referring to that part, but rather the "I'm proud to be poor!" crowd, who wear that as a badge of honor when it isn't.
