That was a pretty good list. I'd say a lot of returning riders are similar to myself where they sell the bike when they have a young family and get back in once kids are grown up or they retire. In a lot of cases the bikes that were cool when we were riding are still the ones we find the best looking. For myself it was a 32 year old GSX1100F, and I still prefer that look to most new bikes. At some point in the future I could see myself on a FJR1300, a Concours 1400, or even a BMW K1600GT. Old guys like me remember the power and torque of their last bike, but still like some real comfort for longer trips.

I got myself a CB1000R coming back to riding after 35 years (I'm 56). A lovely bike. I got it over the 650, simply because it's more comfortable for me, being 6' tall. I just felt a bit cramped on the 650 although I was just about to buy a new one. Then I found, purely by coincidence, a used CB1000R (2020 model) and I was instantly in love. More comfortable and better looking too. So, that's my "return to riding" bike.

Sold my 2008 Concours 14 about 4yrs ago. Just bought a $3500 2012 NC700X for "mostly" high gas price reasons. And if I don't end up recouping all the costs, I will still save enough money to make the purchase that much better of a value vs 20mpg of our two main vehicles. Feels good to be on 2 wheels again and crazy the value I am finding in used gear. Trying to keep things somewhat on the budget side. And wow what a difference the NC700X is over the C14. Have head to toe gear again and getting my mind back into the riding not driving mindset. Need to make it home for the fam. I am thinking there is a fair chance that gas prices can jump quite a bit more in the coming months so wanted a 60+ MPG ride and before summer prices hit in both the gas and MC market.

I'm 51, I've been off the bikes for 10+ years, my budget for a 60km daily commuter is up to an mt-07 which with it's 70+hp seems ok but, for some reason, it seems to me that the Duke 390 will be more fun. All my bikes in the past were big, heavy nakeds usually modified (last one a ZRX1200R which i loved but a pain in the heavy traffic) now i want to try something light, agile and playful, and the duke seems to me better in this aspect than the mt-07 even though it's weaker. Does anyone agree with this? I never had a bike like this in the past and, who knows, after my "break in" period maybe i will even get to learn how to do a proper wheelie, finally! 🙂 😀

Why would you recommend a cruiser right now knowing the rebel 1100 is coming down the pike?

About a 15 year break here, used to ride a DT125R & then a CB500. Like a dumbass I've got a CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT. Wish I'd got the manual version, tbh. DCT dumped me on the ground when the throttle have me power-no power-power-no power & I stupidly grabbed the front brake. Too tall for me to be confident on, too weird taking off too. Huge learning curve ahead. I'll get there eventually but ugh, not a great choice unless you've ridden scooters or something of that ilk.

No love for the SV650X? I've always considered that (and the S before it), to be very much a 'sportbike-lite', with clip ons and a sporty riding position, but with more low end & without the 'oh shit I'm doing 150mph' 100+hp top end of a 'proper' sportsbike. Although I suppose the CB650R places itself in broadly the same place.

So I ride a Honda crf 450 2017, so I'm good at making slow maneuvers and falling over of course. But I love the power of the bike, so I'm looking at something similar like the z900 but the z900 is like 467 and the z650 is 406 pounds. So a lighter bike would be nice but not enough power it really hard to find the middle ground a mt07 is not far at all above a z650 and a street triple I don't lile the seat position or the price. Someone help me here also seems like people put like 2 to 8k miles on their bikes then sell them for 1k off msrp I'm not sure how long these motors will last.

Any suggestions for larger riders starting off? Felt cramped on 400s, cbr 500 fit but it’s heavy.

650? Z650, SV650, Ninja 650, etc. Don't know if they're significantly more roomy than a 400. You might have to go up to a 900 or something.

I was surprised that the Yamaha XSR700 was not on the list but I guess they had the sportier MT7 and more refined Honda CB650r so maybe it just missed the cut.

That's my thoughts on a next bike to upgrade to from my XSR700. If it's comfortable enough it's a cheap, modern cruiser with more power than some Harleys at that and proven Honda reliability and low maintenance! I want to be able to cruise the open road and do trips with a side of twisties fun.

@@botyaay1233 Too much for what I’m looking for. Weight, style, price, etc. Rebel looks more promising for me because of smaller bike with great power/weight ratio.
