@@chrisbeasley1777 but really most places are like that. But this list is really not great considering the put Richmond in the top 10. That place is the worst. I have lived in Alexandria almost my whole life. It's pretty dang nice. Very expensive but there are some affordable places as well. I live 5 mins from Mount Vernon, 10 mins from Old Town Alexandria, and like 15 20 from DC. So the historical sites a short drive from me is a really cool thing that I have grown to appreciate more the older I get

I Love the Upper Neck of Virginia. Small communities and slow paced country living. Has all the amenities you need. Lower taxes here, people are polite and cost of living is so much better than these listed. I have 3.2 acres right on the water waiting for me. I'll be retiring soon and cant wait to build our forever home and live a much better country life!

Avoid those cities that are in northern Virginia and the Peoples Republic Of Charlottesville. The DC blight is heavy in those cities. Central Virginia is much more friendly and livable.

Richmond is awesome I love the Northeast cities like Newark ,Philly, New York Richmond gives u that Northeastern feel without the Northeastern cost of living tons to do and see its not to fast and not to slow just right and I'm the perfect location right down the road from DC about 4 hrs from Philly and about 5 and half hrs from New York City should I say more one word describes Richmond Amazing ❤ 💙 💜 💖 💗 💘 ❤ 💙 💜 💖 💗 💘 ❤.

We moved to Fredericksburg when we retired 10 years ago. Worst decision we could have made. We lived in Greenville, SC for 30 years. Moved to VA to be closer to our daughter, son-in-law and grandson. They live in Arlington about 40 miles from us. That is the closet we could get with housing prices. Fredericksburg is 40 years behind what we left in Greenville. It is in the middle of that state along the I-95 corridor. It is not easy to get anywhere. No local tv news and to get a decent station on the radio, it comes from DC. A “local” newspaper that has little local news. And the weather is awful. It goes from winter to summer with very little spring and fall. The only area on the list that is halfway decent, is Charlottesville. But it more expensive than indicated in the video. If you are moving to VA, do your research and good luck.

Richmond is not that great...murder, drugs and crime is up. Our downtown is barely existent, alot of homelessness, and no good paying iobs. We do have a few good restaurants and the James River. We're also in between the beach and mountains, which is convenient.

I don’t know who did this tape, but they are nuts. I had lived there and it’s not what they say. Traffics is like being on I-495 “Beltway”. I now live in the West part of VA and I love it. I been in the Mong. Country for 22 years. It has everything any one would need or wants. The small towns, farm area’s. Just check out the area.

$900 will rent a real dump in Richmond. If you want anything remotely decent, you’re looking at $1500. The same applies for a house under $200K. You’re not getting much and it won’t be in a decent neighbourhood.

"If you live in [town north of Fredericksburg] you will enjoy leisurely 10-mile commutes of an hour or more without subjecting your car to the stress of getting above 2nd gear!" During the early/mid-90s, when I was in college, I worked at a Mobil gas station of I-95 in Woodbridge. People driving through from other states _especially on weekends) would be, like, *"What the hell happened? Was there an accident? Was part of the interstate shut down?"* and I'd say something like *"What happened? It's Tuesday."* Around 2000, I worked in Alexandria and was taking grad school classes at the Strayer campus on Eisenhower Avenue. I could get caught in traffic driving down 95 South after 9 PM.

I had the pleasure of visiting a couple of older ladies living on Grant Ave; they appreciated the service I gave them and had me to lunch. I felt like a Princess. They both had maids and cooks whose families had provided household help for generations. It was another way of life, the likes of which I had never seen. We used to go to the little tavern, I think it was Murphy’s.

For the record...Vienna is the largest TOWN in Virginia and Falls Church( where I grew up) is the smallest city...quirk in the Virginia state charter establishes incorporated citys as politically separate from county's...so while Falls Church City has its own government...police...tax code...etc...Vienna is part of Fairfax County Alexandria shares the same municipal status as Falls Church...as does Richmond

Nature is wonderful down there and it’s very affordable. But it’s in the middle of nowhere. It’s dead comparing to NoVa and Central Virginia when it comes to jobs opportunities, cultural, night life… Northern Neck is great area for fishing, once a month, and that’s it🙂

Arlington National Cemetery is within walking distance of Falls church...my daily commute to walk. Both Fall Church and the Arlington National Cemetery are with 45 mins of George Washington's Mount Vernon.

As long as you don’t want to drive down the strip, more than once per night. Make a circle, and you get a ticket. And make sure you are not near the beach, when all the rappers come to town. They do that once a year. The had a big shoot out last year. Basically, don’t live near, or go to the beach, and you will love living in Va. Beach.

I live 4 blocks from the oceanfront! Very safe and friendly place to live. However, rental rates are much higher than this video cited! Lots more to do also. If you're an outdoor person, you will love it here!

Virginia Beach- Yes. Awesome place to be in! Williamsburg- Has a lot of museums. If you like learning about history you should visit. Richmond- Yes. Has many fun places to go to. Charlottesville- Has lots of cool and fun places to go to. It's one of my favorite places to visit! Falls Church- Haven't been there. Vienna- Haven't been there.

@@LunaPlaysThis I agree not all blacks are criminals, but as a percentage of the population they commit the most blue collar and violent crimes. Several of my doctors are black and the few black teachers I had growing up were superb. It was a black man that gave me my start in life. Years ago i was the first jeweler in Virginia to have a black woman as a manager. I also trained a young black man to be a goldsmith and goldsmiths can be notorious petty thieves no mater what race they are. It isn't the color of your skin that defines you but the results of the culture you are a part of. All people have the ability to decide what path they take in life, too many lacks in this country choose the wrong one.

Bon Air is in Richmond VA and Chesterfield VA, a suburb in Richmond. I feel Short Pump is better to live in than Bon Air.

Bon Air is an area in Chesterfield County, it is not a part of the city of Richmond. Chesterfield is a county but you are correct on it being a suburb though.

Mount Vernon is nowhere near Falls Church and Falls Church has a ton of traffic just like Vienna does.

Having 50+ years in the area, I can say the close-in D.C. suburbs are overrated in this video. Arlington still has many older and less maintained areas. I grew up in McLean which is slightly further out and much nicer, at least for now, as are Great Falls and others nearby areas. The whole area has been overrun by too much concrete and too many bridges and traffic lights. On the roads, there are cars everywhere and getting anywhere is time-consuming. At least property is ridiculously expensive. VA used to be the perfect state to live in, but as more and more Federal contract employees move into northern VA, they have turned the state Blue, which has led to a higher cost of living overall, higher taxes (such as personal property taxes for land, home, and vehicles), more anti small business and right-to-work regulations, and a huge spike in crime across the state thanks to catch-and-release programs and early release of violent criminals who have had their voting rights restored (who in turn vote for soft-on-crime and anti Second Amendment policies). In Fairfax County, for example, most noise regulations have been eliminated, resulting in endless parades of deafening motorcycles and cars racing through communities daily, into the night until the early hours of the morning. We have a Lt. Gov accused of multiple rapes, and a State DA convicted of statutory rape.

totally agree with everything you have mentioned. moved to VA (Leesburg) in 2000 and can see a difference of what the state, and Loudoun county has become in the recent years. moving out of Loudoun in the next few month to end the madness...

What nonsense. I have lived in NoVA for 45 years and taxes on homes have barely increased over the last 25 years while the values are way way up because we adjust the tax rate to keep the yearly costs in check. Notice that when people talk about how good VA is they are not mentioning any of Trump country. Its a tale of two states, the blue zones have the money and amenities and the red zones are poor and now full of fentanyl addicts. After 20 years of budget deficits from the GOP and barely any major road improvements we are finally getting work done.

I left Sterling VA almost 20 years ago and will never go back.... basically from Alexandria all the way to Leesburg is nothing but shopping centers malls and gas staions.... they destroyed that area in the 90s....

For small homes, I'd suggest looking in Herndon and Reston. You're a quick ride on the metro to Dulles Airport. Your budget will determine your market. Loudon is a little bit more expensive than some parts of Fairfax County.
