[150-WORD DESCRIPTION FOR WRITERS TO FILL IN]
Back in 1868, the first volume of Louisa May Alcott's novel, "Little Women" hit the shelves. And shortly after, in 1869, the second volume of this timeless novel would follow suit. Since then, there have been many renditions of this literary masterpiece. In 1994, the cinematic remake of "Little Women" starred Winona Ryder and Christian Bale. But the novel-turned-movie is once again getting revamped as of 2019, and it has a brand new and very promising cast.
Saorise Ronan is all set to play Jo March. Eliza Scanlen is ready to make waves as Beth. Florence Pugh will step into Amy's shoes. And Emma Watson will take the stage as Meg. The March sisters are ready to bring "Little Women" to life once again. But this time around, plotlines are bound to stray from the novel’s original path. In this video from TheThings, we reveal the top 10 differences between the "Little Women" novel and its brand new 2019 film adaptation.

I don’t believe Emma Stone would have been right for Meg. Emma Watson was perfect.

Paula Shelton I disagree. Emma Stone is a really good actress. I think she would have portrayed Meg’s emotions really well. I don’t think emotions are Emma Watson’s acting forte.

I'm surprised Emma Watson even agreed to play Meg, given she was all salty about Cinderella not being feminist enough for her. Meg is very classic female and not something I'd expect Emma to be okay with.

so funny that Emma Watson was going to be in La La Land and Emma stone got it. And now Emma stone was supposed to be in Little Women and Emma Watson got it 😂

Emma Stone won multiple best actress awards for LaLaLand which Emma Watson could never have done because she's not remotely such a good actress. To be fair, she's well cast as Meg and is better suited to ensemble pieces.

In the book Jo DID change the ending of her novel like the publisher said...

Jo doesn't write a novel. Alcott did change the ending if you mean that.

Felicity Jo absolutely wrote a novel. And sent it to Fredrick who had it published.
@felicity1877
@felicity1877 4 года назад
All I remember from the book is that Friedrich didn't like Jo's sensation stories. He got touched by a poem by Jo and returns that's why. The poem is about the four sisters and I think this is the one thing always replaced with Little Women in all movies. If I'm wrong, you have to tell me with quoting the scene you mean.!!!
@sarahsilva6226
@sarahsilva6226 4 года назад
@@felicity1877 There are sensational stories, and then the poem, and then the novel that finally starts making her a name and money, which continues in the next two novels as she become well known. It's after Beth dies that she starts writing novels that, according to her father "There is truth in it, Jo, that's the secret. Humor and pathos make it alive, and you have found your style at last. You wrote with no thoughts of fame and money, and put your heart into it, my daughter." Chapter 41
@felicity1877
@felicity1877 4 года назад
@@sarahsilva6226 Thank you for reminding me. I love this quote! Although I thought it is only one little story printed in the newspaper, I think it counts as a novel as well as the following ones.Talking about truth, humor, pathos and heart, it's justified to take Little Women as Jo's novel. But there is no single book Jo sent to Friedrich and he published it secretly. I think that's why the new LW movie is better. Because Jo publishes her novel by herself and doesn't need Friedrich to get it finally.

This seems more based on comparing movies to each other; the mentions of Any are about the 1994 movie not the book. She’s absolutely aware of her family’s status and the book says she feels it the most keenly. She has a speech in the novel about money and men having power and why she needs to marry a rich man. Much of the rest of this is just a visual medium vs a written one. Of course a movie focuses more on looks.

Everyone: Talks about different movie adaptions if talking about differences. No one: Mentions that this movie is the closest adaption, but has still the big difference: Amy doesn't travel with Aunt March in the book, but with Aunt and Uncle Carol and Cousin Flo. I hate it that they are again excluded....

Did anyone feel like marmee had more control of her daughters in the ‘94 version? It was probably greta’s writing but marmee in the ‘19 version was very liberal for lack of a better word and didn’t really control or educate or discipline. They acted much more like ‘women’ in the ‘94 version.

@@luciadilazzaro2285 True in the book she only appears during Amy's quarantine at Aunt March's home. But through the occasional conversation with Estelle, Amy learns about the ring that Aunt March intends to give her based on her proper behavior. The book never shows us the actual proposition like the 2019 film does. Amy sees Estelle's rosary beads and tells Estelle that she notices her look of peace after she takes her break to spend some time alone. Estelle encourages Amy to spend some similar tine alone to think good thoughts and to pray for Beth. Estelle helps Amy install a small shrine in her closet, and Amy does use it during the times she worries about Beth. And when Amy finally shows Marmee the ring Aunt March gave her, she tells her that she wants to continue wearing the ring to remind herself not to be vain and selfish. Estelle may have had a small part in the book, but I believe she was also a friendly and positive influence on the future mature Amy.

I don't care how good the movie is. I was distraught as a young girl, years ago, after reading the book. I couldn't believe Jo turned down Laurie and ended up with that much older, stick in the mud, German professor. And then Laurie marries that brat, Amy. Yuck! I cried and cried. I think the current movie "sexes" up the professor to make Jo's relationship with him more palatable, but that's not how he comes across in novel. I've watched all of the previous movies, hoping some writer or director would change the ending, but of course not. Guess I'll skip this one.

This looks awful. Might be a good movie if you’ve never read the book or seen any other movies, but this is too many unnecessary changes that seem like they wouldn’t have made anything any better anyway. The only movie I’ve enjoyed was the 90’s one, this is just too far from the story, no point. In this video no mention of the men either, are they even in the movie? They played a huge part in the story. I’m going to read the book again and then watch the movie. I never enjoyed the older ones.

@@theshamrockdolls9909 I agree Winona Ryder made an excellent Jo, Jo is described in the novel as "Fifteen-year-old Jo was very tall, thin, and brown, and reminded one of a colt, for she never seemed to know what to do with her long limbs, which were very much in her way. She had a decided mouth, a comical nose, and sharp, gray eyes, which appeared to see everything, and were by turns fierce, funny, or thoughtful.” Pity Blake Lively was too old for the role. (I am not American btw) It is sad that such an iconic American book had no American actresses taking the roles of the March girls.Kiernan Shipka from chilling adventures of Sabrina would have made an excellent Amy. I thought Laura Dern was a great Marmee I wonder if she auditioned for the girls parts in 1994?. Having a Frenchman play a German too was a shame in some ways. Pity they couldn't get Max Riemelt for Professor Baher seeing they made Baher much younger than middle aged in this movie. i just looked up hairstyles of 1860s and '70s in Vermont and the movie seemed accurate in this respect. Their clothes are colourful because in many ways the Marches are bohemian which works for me..
