I love DIY and tricks to get the move you are looking for etc. I love your old videos where you show creative ways to use tripods etc. Jordy, I remember a long time ago on a video when I asked you what DIY ment. I had never heard about it before. I have used cardboard under my tripod to make it into a slider/ dolly and I'm still using that technique sometimes. I have also used those smooth cotton things you have under chairs so you don't scratch up the floor. It works really well :-)

these are actually some pretty great DIY techniques apart from the microphone holder that doesn't really work for a shotgun it kind of works for normal microphone although it will mess up the polar pattern.

Hahahha, the cardboard focus ring is so cheesy! So cheesy it just might work! I really love cardboard for all sorts of projects. You gotta get a glue gun. I’ve done the soft box thing with a clamp light and LED, but I got more elaborate and added cardboard barn doors. I was going to add a gel frame older (with cardboard gel frames), but I realized the project was getting ridiculous. I was also thinking about adding a cardboard egg crate (the grid you sometimes see on a soft box, soft light, or zip light). Cookies (cucaloris, sometimes called a gobo in the still photography world) are a topic worthy of their own video. For foliage, you’re better off using a thin piece of plywood (such as luan) or masonite. Cut out the shapes with a jigsaw. Cucaloris designs can get quite intricate and beautiful; worth doing a google image search to see the wide variety. Making a wood cookie is considered a rite of passage among some grips. Attach the cookie to a metal rod for mounting it on a c-stand. That will give you the most positioning options quickly. Incidentally, I don’t think the keyhole (or whatever type of cutout) placed in front of the lens is called a cucaloris. I believe it’s called a matte, but I’m not entirely sure. Like a keyhole matte, or w/e. I’m not 100% sure on this, but I don’t think it matters because almost everyone will be better off doing this in post. The only time I can imagine using it would be some bizarre challenge when you’re required to edit “in camera”. (How we did it with VHS camcorders when I was a kid. You babies don’t know how easy you got it!”)
