In this video we will be talking about 9 Life Lessons From Plato. His philosophy is often referenced as Platonic idealism and his biggest contribution is the Theory of Forms or Doctrine of Ideas, and has remained very popular the entire time.
So with that in mind, here are 9 important lessons that we can learn from Plato -
01. Conquer yourself
02. Being angry solves nothing
03. Choose the people you spend time with wisely
04. Find your other half
05. Get involved in politics
06. Learn to be a follower, then a master
07. Be content with little
08. Be in charge of your own happiness
09. Work hard to accomplish great things
I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope these 9 Life Lessons From Plato will add value to your life.
Plato is one of the most famous philosophers of all time. He represented the philosophy of ancient Greece, belonging to its Classical Period. He was born into an aristocratic and influential family in Athens, where he founded the Academy, the first institution of higher learning in the entire Western world. Along with his mentor Socrates, and his student Aristotle, Plato is one of the most influential individuals in the entire history of humankind. It can even be said that he is one of the pillars of Western civilization. His philosophy is often referenced as Platonic idealism and his biggest contribution is the Theory of Forms or Doctrine of Ideas, which asserts that the physical world is not the real world. Instead, ultimate reality exists beyond our physical world, in the world of ideas. Plato was not only a prominent figure of philosophy, but also of religion and spirituality; so-called Neo-platonism deeply influenced Christian theology. Plato invented the written dialogue and dialectic form of philosophy. Some of his most famous books are The Republic, The Symposium, The Apology of Socrates, Allegory of the Cave and The Dialogues of Plato, in which the main character is Socrates, who influenced Plato’s philosophy to a great extent. His entire work has survived for more than 2,400 years and has remained very popular the entire time. Like his mentor, Plato was a practical philosopher and there are many life lessons to learn from his philosophy.

Great stuff here. As a psychologist and a keen student of his philosophy. Another example is getting rid of social media outlets not reading the news or watching the news. It’s all propaganda. Spend as much time with a limited amount of people especially your family and not others that bring no value to your life. They’re never going to appreciate you or like you. I’m opposed to going to any holidays with family I do not get along with as well. Better off.

To me it is incredibly ironic that an allegory about people being fed a false reality is credited to Plato even though the words describing it supposedly come out of the mouth of Socrates. So was Socrates not real which would mean that Plato himself helped to build the cave or have other cave makers deliberately robbed Socrates of his credit in order to make Plato a great philosopher? I am bothered by the fact that so many "philosophers" ignore this paradox.

It's beautifully done, and it's something we need in this time more than ever. Lately I've been sharing it across many different social media platforms. I really believe we need a return to #Platonic_Idealism. At least in some fashion or iteration. We need a safe and healthy place to debate the very pressing social issues of today. And we need a method, that isn't the equivalent of shiting in our hands and playing patty cakes... Because currently? That's what it feels like.

Philosophers and most everyone else for that matter are too focused on happiness. Fulfillment and meaning are vastly superior. This is one of the many priceless lessons we learn from real religions. Philosophy is a powerful way to back up a real religious moral framework but is inadequate as a moral framework itself, hence the Greeks' famous and profound lack of understanding despite their great intellects and ideas.
@nocommentnoname1111
@nocommentnoname1111 2 года назад
But dont fulfillment and meaning produce happiness? And what is this "about the Greeks' famous and profound lack of understanding?"
@loganvinsonbjj
@loganvinsonbjj 2 года назад
@@nocommentnoname1111 They do, and they may even be the most efficient way of producing it in the long term, but the issue is what people use as their life’s goal or “North Star” if you will. The problem with seeking happiness is multifaceted, but two main problems are: 1) seeking in and of itself is diametrically opposed to happiness, and 2) happiness will not sustain you or even exist in the parts of your life that are taken over by suffering. As for the Greeks I’m talking about how they tend to throw their hands up and admit that they don’t understand at all the universe’s meaning, or man’s purpose, or many other similar topics. Practically “proof in the pudding” that the minuscule mind of man is not capable of understanding the universe and its creator. This is what religions (I’m only well versed in Christianity) mean by faith. Faith is trust in the structure of reality even though you’re incapable of understanding. It is by definition what gives us the ability to move forward. Our level of philosophy is simply what gauges how fast we can move. Not much good to move quickly if you have no direction! :)

6. To be a great teacher you first need to be a great student. The opposite doesn't apply though especially in the job market and that's what people are usually struggling with. Being a great student (follower) doesn't guarantee that you will be a great teacher (master). It ignores other usually far more important skills for a leadership role, like soft skills. Plus it doesn't take into account competition (other students being far greater than you or having a better fit for the role).
