Hello Dr Dan, my question might be a bit out of topic but I would like to ask your opinion about having oats for breakfast. It is carbs mainly, but at the same time, it has a lot of benefits. So I am a bit confused. Your opinion as a professional would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

By following low carb and intermittent fasting, I've got a much better pattern of sleeping and eating and my head is clear. The fog has gone. I don't get hungry to the point where I shake and can't concentrate anymore. Intermittent fasting and low carb, great. Dr Dan, fantastic.

Thanks for being here for all of us. You were extolling the benefits of fasting. I was concerned about my blood sugar. I recently lost my family physician and I am concerned for my health because diabetes is in my family. I started IF and have discovered another benefit (which I don't think I am unique in this,) but it is a bonus for me... what is this bonus you ask? I had a constant voice calling for me to eat. By fasting, the voice is no longer calling to me. I also noticed I do sleep better. I wish I had found this earlier in my life. I fast for 22 hours and eat within a 2 hour window. This works well with my work schedule I get home at 7 pm in the evening. I can't thank you enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you 😊

I've fasted one day a week for the past 7 years, ever since reading Stop the Clock by P.D. Mangan. It's a 36-40 hour fast once a week, and the rest of the week I stick to a 10-hr eating window. Mangan basically said everything that you do. The main thing that jumped out at me was the benefits of autophagy. I'm 63 and totally healthy with no prescriptions. Beyond the health benefits, I look forward to my weekly fast as a break from the kitchen. You don't realize how much time is spent in shopping, preparation, eating and cleaning up until you don't have to do it one day a week!

@Laura Little very strange. Fasting is using up your glycogen stores which hold a few pounds of water. Three days of using 1500kcal from fat would also mean another pound of fat gone.

Refeeding is more of an issue for people doing long fasts, the 10 day plus type of fasting. Just eat foods that won't spike your blood sugar (sugar, refined grains, etc) and you should be just fine.

IF is the master to maintain a good health. According to my experience, 90% of diseases come from processed and excessive food consumption. We need to eat the way our ancestors were eating. Indeed, humans today eat way more than they need and this brings the whole disaster. Two and half years ago, I got diabetes and high blood sugar. My weight was 202 lbs, Hba1c was 5.8 and blood pressure was 162/39. Had a hard time how to cure this. Hopeless from my doctor and I started using RU-vid. I finally cracked the secret of treatment to all those issues. Here is what I did. 1- I removed all packaged food and started eating Whole Foods including vegetables and fresh fruits. 2- I removed dinner from my diet and eat breakfast and lunch only. I consume nuts as snacks if I need. 3- Eliminated table sugar and replaced it with stevia. 4 -And I added 3-4 miles walking 4-5 days a week. Here is what I achieved from the above changes. My blood pressure is 113/72 and my Hba1c is 5.2 now. I lost 52 lbs in the first 8 months and maintained my 150 lbs weight for almost two years. Am very happy in this lifestyle and will maintain it .

Hi Dr Dan just found your brilliant channel, I've been fasting for quite a while, I do OMAD every day, a 48hr fast once a week plus a 72hr fast once a month! I think being ketosis and Autophagy are the most important things to me, I'm in hospital (Southampton General) as I type this having had a Glioblastoma removed two days ago feel a bit sore but I'm sure these extended fasts have helped slow down the tumour growth plus helping to Keep the inflammation under control. through research with channels like yours I'm now totally ZERO carbs and fully carnivore! Feel so much better on it! 👍

Very clear benefits and seems practical. Thank you. As for my own fasting habit, I've managed to fast once a week, Tuesday evenings until Wednedays at 6 PM. It might be good to discuss the psychological aspects of going without food for even this short time ~20-22 hours. In my experience of fasting for the last two years, I still, after all this time, have to reassure myself that I "get to eat" at 6PM Wednesdays. There's a fair amount of self-talk going on... one of my main challenges is what to do with the times when I'm not eating. I allow extra sleep to whittle away at my time goal and make myself busy with household chores, crossing off my to-do list, gardening, visiting others, etc. As for the other days, I'm struggling with snacking and grazing. I suppose a remedy would be to start with the 12 hour rule... no eating between 8am and 8pm.

Thank you for this clear, concise explanation of the benefits of fasting. I have been doing intermittent fasting for over 2 years. I am 70 and feeling very healthy. No aches or pains and my inflammation levels are very low. I follow a low carb diet. I do eat breakfast and lunch which I like to finish by 2:00 pm. I am driven partly by my APOE 4 gene and that my father had Alzheimer’s.

I recently discovered intermittent fasting through various YT videos. The health benefits are astounding. I started about 2 weeks ago, doing 16:8. I’m a nighttime snacker and love my coffee with creamer in the morning. I thought it would be a hard adjustment but it feels so natural! Never thought I’d enjoy black coffee but I do. I was never big on breakfast so skipping this meal was easy. I delay lunch until 12:30 or 1 and have dinner when my husband gets home from work around 6:30. I used to watch tv and snack the rest of the night after my kids go to bed but I made the decision to go to bed early and read instead with a plain cup of tea. This has made all the difference. I’m already down 5 lbs but more than that, I feel incredible. No more brain fog, less fatigue, better quality sleep, more productivity and so much more. Thanks to informative videos like yours, I feel like I can make this a sustainable life change. So many benefits beyond weight loss.

I eat between 3 and 10pm. The main (carnivore) meal being at "movie time" between 7 and 10pm. I read or listen to music or an audio book (using headphones so my wife can sleep) until midnight or so...and pretty much always do leg raises and pushups and squats at various intervals (between pee breaks) until around 4am. Then I sleep like a log until 6:30 - 8ish. I love it, and I'm always perfectly well rested when I get up out of bed. (10 minutes or so of meditation before getting out of bed) O_o What do you think, Doc? Totally insane? It works for me. 🙂

Due to symptoms for a year, finally got a test in mid Oct 21 to confirm T2 diabetes with a HBA1C of 87 with a weight of 17 stone. Straight on metformin x2 per day, which I had to change to the slow release version. I did my own research on the UK diabetes sites & everyone recommended to reduce carbs (none of this was ever mentioned by my doctors). Little bit of tweaking here & there over the course of a month I finally got set into a routine with fasting for 12 to 14 hours ( can be longer on a weekend) and carbs of 40-80g per day... Higher levels usually in the week due to sandwiches for work (Hovis Nimble bread) and I have only taken x1 SR Metformin tablet per day as I wanted to see what the diet impact was for the results. I had my latest check 2 weeks ago with a HBA1C level of 49 and a weight of 15st 4lb & I know I shouldn't, but it is with a few beers some nights 🍺

i finished a 5 day fast a few days ago, broke my fast great at first with a tub of organic blueberries and some organic grapes, i cried lol. Unfortunately it was already late when i ate but a few hours later (in the early AMs) i ate a huge burrito. this vicious cycle began of starting to eat way too much junk (all the stuff i've been craving while fasting) And i almost went to the hospital today because i believe i've overloaded my kidneys with too much junk, also have thrown up after a couple meals because i have a tendency to binge to the point of struggled breathing. I'm drinking herbal tea before bed and have to set flashy reminders on my phone not to eat most the day tomorrow so my body can process all the sh*t ive thrown at it. I highly recommend intermittent fasting before prolonged fasting, stay safe everyone.

Great video as usual! I'd really like to know more about eating late, if it's something you'd like to comment, or expound upon. I'm a really bad over-eater, so I've found that eating right before bed not only fits with my schedule, (and some other issues I have ideas about) but keeps me from eating too much as I literally don't have the time. I'd love to know your thoughts on this, if you have the time.

I’ve been doing Keto and IF for almost 2 years and love it, it’s a lifestyle now rather than a diet I will never go back to normal eating or carbs and sugar. I also take vitamin d3/k2, magnesium, potassium, zinc and quercetin, garlic and turmeric plus a few others and have never felt healthier. I’m now 47 years old, havent been ill for 2 years and nobody can believe I’m only 3 years away from my 50yh birthday as I look younger than my years and have pretty low body fat. Look after your own health because doctors will just push pills! Oh always had pretty high blood pressure, not anymore it’s totally normal since starting Keto and IF.

I needed to lose weight this year. So I started on Jane Plan, which is due to run out at Easter. It’s working and I’ve shifted over a stone and a half on the 5 stone I want to lose. I’m looking beyond the current plan and I’m interested in “carb dodging” and fasting. I’ll be trying the tips and hoping the weight loss will continue. In answer to your questions. I eat between 21.00 and 22.00. This is because the Jane plan diet leaves me with 500ish calories to play with and clearly I’m using them at the wrong time. Also, cancer prevention is key for me. I have Lynch Syndrome.

I live in Spain and my Spanish neighbours eat about 4-5 times a day as follows; Breakfast- optional, Mid morning lunch, 14.00 main meal, 18.00 afternoon break, 22.00 Supper. I've been on a IF low carb diet since last August, and while I was able to follow this intensely in summer, winter is more difficult living in unheated houses, overall I eat less carbs and more fat than I did pre-aug, I eat only twice a day and normally only when I'm hungry or at least after 12.00 midday and never later than 20.00, I've cut out all seed oils, and gone back to lard(manteca), when it gets warmer I'll revert back to salad rather than peas/carrots, also cost is now a serious factor with the rise in fuels/power/gas etc.

IMHO is was caused by my eating poorly during COVID. Since the problem was caused by eating poorly I decided to try to fix it by eating better. I changed my life style by eating oat meal with flax seeds for breakfast have a small lunch and have a medium dinner. NO snacks and when we went out to eat I would not eat everything on my plate. The results after 2 years was I lost 30 lbs (180) and my cholesterol is good. I am now ready for doing intermittent fasting. Breakfast will be delayed just a few hours to 10 AM, lunch at about 1 PM and have dinner at 6 PM. My goal is to get my weight down to 170. I am not looking for a quick fix but rather a slow but steady change in my lifestyle.

I've combined IF with low carb & lost 8 kilos in 4 months. Dr. Dan's videos and clear, precise explanations are what helps keep me on track. I used to binge of fruit, thinking that if it's good, more must be better. I've got much better control over my eating now.

I Omad. Only one meal a day, no snacks, not at all. So I eat every 23.5 hours. I eat every day at 4 pm. And always skip Sundays. So once a week ill go 48 hours w no food. The longest I have fasted (20 years ago ) was 7 days. No food, no juice, no calories. And just recently I fasted for over 4 days (103 hours).

Thanks. I just discovered your channel. Love it being sensible and scientific. A couple of questions for you: 1) How does it different for women and men when doing IF (esp in view of the menstrual cycle). 2) I am in a carni/ketovore lifestyle, I love it as my family has a tendency to become diabetic when we reach our 40s. Lately, I feel I have gained weight from being made to work at home. I haven't braved the scale, but the tightness of my clothing tells the tale. So do I need to go back to counting calories?

I suffered a heart attack and had a single bypass surgery. That was a couple of years ago. I really didn't alter my diet very much and and my latest blood work diagnosis was asymptomatic type 2 diabetes. Weeks ago I completely eliminated carbs, sugar, bread, grains etc etc. Right now I have basically switched to a carnivore diet along with healthy fats, avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil & good quality butter & lots of water. I have not had any sugary sodas for years and mostly drink unsweetened iced tea. I do the apple cider vinegar in 4 OZ of water before eating protein with high healthy fat content. Taking vitamins D3 "C" Zinc Selenium etc along with trace minerals etc. No breakfast. I usually eat at 5:00PM and I do not feel hungry until the following day at around the same time. I guess you could call that daily intermittent fasting. I actually feel great. I am losing weight - initially probably water weight but now my "love handles" have gone away and I am slowly losing belly fat. I was 20+ LBS overweight for years. I was on Lipitor 80mg but, switched to Crestor 20mg. I am also taking low doses of Metoprolol and Lorsartan (sp?) & even though "carnivore" is higher in sodium and potassium - my blood pressure is quite low to low normal with or without those 2 medications. I take a BP reading every day. I do have an insomnia problem so "quality sleep" usually sucks. I generally feel great these days save for left knee pain. Nobody ever talks about a carnivore type diet for folks who have had a bypass surgery. My cardiologist DID OK a keto low carb diet for me during a checkup after my surgery. But, at that time I knew nothing about carnivore. I would like to stay on zero carbs and zero sugar until I lose 20 or 25 LBS and then try low carb keto forever if necessary. These days I think I could easily live on no added sugar forever. I just don't want it anymore. I might go for cake and ice cream on my birthday? Maybe. I also have no more heartburn or acid reflux these days on carnivore. I was taking Prilosec & Nexium for years. No more! I have an occasional Tums which is just Calcium anyway so...no big deal on that. So...what about keto for folks who have had bypass surgery? And is carnivore short term for a month or two harmful to the heart? I hope not & at this point I will either die or feel better than I've ever felt for years....which I already DO! BTW: My years long constant nagging lower back pain has already pretty much disappeared. It was so bad that at one past point I could not even lift the toilet seat or put a pizza in the lower oven. My lower body could not support my upper body. I had to go to emergency/hospital. I no longer eat pizza BTW. So...how about talking about at least a temporary carnivore diet - no sugar - no carbs for people who have had a bypass surgery. In my case a widow maker that was caught just in time with only a minor decrease in my ejection infraction. I wish my knee felt as great as my heart but, I think losing 20+ pounds will help take the stress off of it and hopefully less inflammation will make the pain go away. My last blood results showed my A1c as being elevated to Type 2 Diabetes which is WHY I started with the carnivore routine. I refuse to go the insulin route to eternally deteriorating slow death. Any info greatly appreciated.

I have been doing IF since mid Jan, and lost 25lb this year, problem is, I haven't lost anything in 3 weeks, even with a 3 day fast. I'm exercising in some way daily, walking, gym (weights) or cycling, but I keep fluctuating by 4lbs up and down. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Should I try eating twice a day for a while? Normally I eat between 6pm and 10pm only, but recently feeling exhausted during the day.

Hey mate, Luis from Australia. I would like to know if a 12-12 intermittent fasting is good enough to start IF. I plant to increase the fasting along the way until I get to 16-8. Though, I'm not sure if 12-12 is a good starting point. Thanks!

Hi, great video. I have been 16/8 TRE for two years now with last meal most days at 4pm. I have not felt this good in years (I am 66). Also, my skin has improved noticeably, I have more energy and I am sleeping well. I have to say also that I am not on a keto diet, but I have limited my sugar intake a lot, plus lots of walking.

About coffee I have been on keto 100% no cheating since Nov 2020 I started at 296 leveled off 235-237 I’m a big boned man I’m comfortable but my goal was 220 but I’ve been 235 for many months being able to maintain that for such a long time is so great. I do plan to start fasting just to see if I might get in the 220,s I do walk regularly and my wife dedicated herself to cooking keto for me. I have watched your videos including coffee which leads me to my question I am sold on keto I don’t cheat I’m passed that but I often get up because I’m 64 at 0600 and I must have my coffee. I use liquid Splenda 0 carbs different then powder so that’s a no brainer on that. But I love coffee mate sugar free chocolate creamer. It’s my one vise. I honestly can see my self waiting till 0800 to start tge fast then stopping eating at the proper time. But I can’t Realistically see myself waiting to 8 o’clock to drink coffee I know black coffee would be just fine you discussed that and even a little cream my question gets down to this according to the label on coffee mate sugar-free it’s less than 1 g per serving if I had to guess I probably put a gram and a half into my coffee and I drink 2 cups religiously every morning Thoughts

I have incorporated Intermittent fasting with a keto diet, 4 weeks on keto first the added the fasting. It happened all by itself and I prefer it with my work schedule. I have tried it before in non keto eating and I like it either way. I love hearing the cellular effects this eating style has on the body/cells. It is encouraging and makes it easy for me to stay on it.

Hi Dr Maggs Great to have a Dr from the UK! I have been doing keto/low carb for 3 months now. I'm 65, 5 foot tall female. I was 11 stones and now I am down to 9! I'm over the moon! I fluctuate between 8.12 to 9 stones because occasionally I have a glass of wine or a cappuccino, but I'm OK with that. Ideally I would like to be 8.5 stones, and I know if I do longer IF I will reach my goal quicker. At the moment I have 2 meals a day. The last one will be between 6pm and 8pm latest depending on my shift work and then bed at around 10.30pm. Wake up around 6pm. Not hungry at all and may have something to eat around 10am/11am again depending om my morning shift work. Sometimes I managed to have nothing in the morning and have my 1st meal at 1pm and the next one still 7pm/8pm but this is tough! If I feel hungry during the day I have a few grain of salt on my tongue to replenish my salt loss and the hunger goes away! Thank you for your no nonsense approached videos!

"Food for thought". Somehow I' m not impressed by this old saw. Better is "THOUGHT IS FOOD". I crave that information which is wholesome and " nutrient dense". This kind of thought can be converted with proper intellectual digestion and judicious application into practical knowledge and ultimately wisdom.I am averse to " junk food for the mind". Thank you for making my neurons scintillate with nutrient dense thought: food which I sincerely feel nourishes and informs my totality.

The latest meal I have is 11 pm but on average I eat at 9 pm since my work ends at 10:30. I have lost 4kgs of weight from fasting for a month. I barely made any effort when fasting. First I started 12/12 then 16/8. I have Sunday as my cheat day and I do a 24 hour fast on Fridays. I only did this at the third week to trigger Autophagy. The first week was the worst but the rest felt like a breeze. I love it since I could save more money and be healthier at the same time. Thanks for the video!

Up again at 5...and no I don't sleep well either..... Maybe just need to stop eating for a few days... 🤔

If you transition to a ketogenic diet first fasting is a breeze. A high carbohydrate diet will leave you starving. Also when you break your fast, try bone broth and or green olives first. 🫒

Greetings from NY. GM Dr., I am 56 y.o., pre diabetic, RN, busy life. No medical history. I have tried fasting, but every time when I try fasting, I feel a little shaky at times when I don't eat, specially my breakfast. But, when I am fasting, what I feel is that my stomach is flatter, I feel lighter, and basically I like it. Honestly, my biggest mistake, is that I feel like I have to eat my breakfast so I don't feel shaky/fainty at work. Wish i could change that. Any ideas??!! Ohh, very informative your video. Thumbs up. Thank you for reading. :) Deni

I make an effort to eat dinner relatively early, preferably @ 5pm. I don't eat anything after 6pm. I'm currently fasting for 24 hours at a time and eating 1 meal per day. I drink water throughout the day as well as have a couple cups of coffee if I feel the need for a pickup. I avoid sugar and starches like the plague. I also try to really limit any consumption of alcohol as it puts on the calories. If I do have a drink, I have it with bottled water 'on the rocks' to not add on sugar calories.
