Hospital parking lots. Usually the local small town hospital is marked on the Interstate. Patients and visitors come and go all day and night in every kind of vehicle you can think of. There is even a cafeteria inside if you like the food and of course clean bathrooms .

I love how different people calls thing by different names depending on where they comes from or simply because their families said them that way! ❤❤❤ we've always caught it pull off she kept saying pull out.. makes sense both ways I guess! I heard people in places in the middle of the United States call all soda pops coke... lol. We call coke coke and a sprite a sprite but they are both pop! I just love hearing what others call things! ❤

I live near a boat launch and I would say - even if it looks big/like there’s a lot of room for you - DONT DO THIS. People come with a boat on a trailer and launch for the day. They need to park there with their big long boat trailer. If your RV is in the way they can’t use the lot the way it’s meant to be used. It might be fine for a few hours at night. There are also usually cameras there. The lots at rural put-ins for boats seem to be pretty big/look roomy when they’re empty. But the local fishermen often start arriving 4-5 am in their trucks pulling boats on trailers and they intend to park there. But if your camper/jumper van/SUV/tiny home on wheels is berthed there for the night you probably won’t get a knock. But you won’t be stealth. I wouldn’t try doing it 2 nights.

I live in Austin and it's true Texas has beautiful rest stops. When I drive to So. CA, I am always comfortable stopping. Just fyi you might see a house near a Rest Stop in TX. The state provides free housing and salary, and the resident is responsible for maintaining the Rest Stops in the area.

It can be a bit different here in the UK. I've tried a variety of overnight stops, some not too pleasant. I've stopped in residential areas in my minivan, and no problem at all - only trouble is getting out in the morning. I have no side windows, so I'm listening to people who might be passing by. Found a few good places in the forest/woodland areas - places where dog walkers park. Also on business parks / industrial areas, too. Safest place, on a campsite, but getting VERY expensive here in England.

I have a large boat in a marina in Texas. We have people staying overnight, but they don’t know or care that’s private property. It really is irritating when I have heavy items in my truck to move onto the boat. If the police come it’s 534 dollars for the towing fee. Just saying!!

William Brown 😊 Oh that's awful that people stay in places and block you. So here's the thing I didn't mention and probably should have, but I suppose I alluded to it. I don't take up spaces that prevent people from doing their business or inconvenience them. Even at truck stops, when I had my Class C, I would never stay in a truckers parking area because that's their livelihood and they have a much harder time finding spots than I do.

One thing I saw a van life talk about with a hotel they went to; it was one with a security guard in a little car who literally watched them come in and not get out of the car to go check in to the hotel. They were there like 15-20 mins before the guard knocked on th door and said they couldn’t stay there. So that may be a thing. A security guard driving around a parking lot may make you feel safer, but you may also be one of the people they’re trying to shoo away. 😂

#10 SECRET STEALTH CAMPING SPOT is church parking lots! No one seems to be talking about them. The larger the church, the better. Also, when you are stealth camping at any of the 9 places described above it's usually much better to actually back in to your spot so that if you have you leave in a hurry during the night, you can pull out and away faster.

Amtrak train station parking lots . They may charge you, but not a lot. When I take. the train I pay $10.00 for my parking for for 24 hours. The station will have restrooms, food and a small convenient store - depending on the size of the station. You will fit right in at an RV dealer. Just park near the service area because you have plates on you rig. Larger county fairs in the summer are good as you will fit right in with a carnival worker that has an RV .

👍🤩💝Good tips. I have used many of the options you mentioned when I’ve been on roadtrips in my SUV. I’m petite enough to sleep in the 3rd row of my SUV. I’ve even stayed at a Rest Stop for more than 12-24 hours because I was too sick with a migraine to drive. No one gave me any problem (& I didn’t cause any problems). I felt safe because they had staff cleaning the bathrooms, common area, changing trash containers & the parking lot. I would have went to a hotel but I was too sick to drive another inch. Really like your videos. I saw the one on "is stealth camping legal" and really liked it. Told myself I wasn't going to watch anymore camper van videos, but got drawn in by that title. Then I found it to be very fun to watch. It didn't have that pretentious vibe that many do, and I've watched hundreds. I loved the down to earth home feel of your channel so I subscribed. I have a Ram Pro I built out and plan on some day getting to hit the road and travel. I just can't right now because I care for my bed ridden mother. I spend a lot of time in my van and sleep in our driveway about 5 days a week to get a feel for what it will be like. God's best to you. Thanks for the little escape I feel while watching.

Just so you know, Oregon has put up "no overnight parking" signs in all of my favorite pullouts overlooking the coast. For several years Iʻve parked for free anywhere between the California border and Bandon. I think Iʻve noticed two "wide spots" off the side of the road now that donʻt have signs. Iʻll be using the 777 Casino parking lot now, and taking off for the coast for the day. Thanks for your tips! Love the motion light!

Susan Bame 😊 Casinos are great too. I've had several people say that to me about Oregon, but I was just there and didn't have any problems finding spots to pull out. The closer to a city or town the pull out is where I typically see the "no overnight" signs.

Hi Amber. I am in a hotel parking lot now! I have had good luck asking at the front desk if I can stay and have never been turned down. I sleep so much better when I ask. I have offered $20 and they always say no, don’t worry about it.. I like smaller hotels not close to the highway. So much quieter. Hey Amber... recently I had to take a member of our family to the hospital late at night. As they were going to be sometime going through tests I searched the neighbourhood nearby and found many streets that did not have any overnight parking restrictions, so I was able to get some rest overnight in my car. So your style of van would probably fit right in. Just sayin'

I get it. I only stay at these places if there is room. If it’s completely full. I don’t do it or just park on the street. It’s not of a “in a pinch “. When I was in Eureka CA one year it was a big pinch. It was very unsafe in these areas but I didn’t know until I got there so I moved to a hotel parking lot for safety.

great video. the underlying theme is to use logic, common sense and be smart about it. that rule will apply to all stealth camping. after 6 years of stealth camping, we have received 2 knocks out of about 200 nights. we love camping by the water. wether it is by the shores of a river, or a lake, there is often a good place to park. sometimes the areas are developed, other times it is BLM land. also, you have access to water so it is a great place to fill up your tanks or take a swim !! One stealth campaign area that i have used that was not mentioned was ski hills (in the summer) the ski area parking lots are huge and mostly abandoned. you are almost always in a gorgeous spot with a huge mountain across the lot. there is usually no one there at night, but there are people who come in the day to hike or bike. if you want to be super stealthy, you can pull in between or behind the huge snow machines or tractors that are parked for the season. the same goes for golf courses in the winter (primarily in the north) as they are closed for the season and offer huge empty lots that are predominantly abandoned for the winter months.

I really like RV campers but I'm conflicted. Like every good thing now there are just way too many people camping, staying in residential areas, and living the lifestyle that you do. This is not a criticism of you personally of anykind. Many rural and beautiful areas just can't take it .. no place for garbage, poop, noise etc. Right now with inflation it will not get any better. I know you're a responsible person but unfortunately there are too many unresponsible people.
@storychasing
@storychasing 2 года назад
Margaret Copeland 😊 I don't disagree with you at all. I can't stand the irresponsible people that make all RVers look bad - or the lifestyle look bad. There's plenty of really great ones, but it's just a huge problem at times. It's getting worse too because quite honestly, it's hard for people to rent or buy homes now with the high cost of living and increased rates. I've been looking for land and to build a base home, but I'm holding off until hopefully the market corrects a bit. It's just insane and so many people are displaced because of it.

It is hard for me to comprehend why so many people are so ready to throw out all their “secret” parking spots to the whole world?? How long do you expect them to stay secret? Law enforcement must love this! Everybody letting them know what to look for and where. Alerts home owners and businesses as well. It no doubt will result in more and more no parking postings. Just keep on bragging and soon, you will run out of secret spots. You tube is full of people posting this stuff.

Night vision monocular goggles can be purchased for around $100, and will allow you to see fairly clearly on those darkest moonless nights. Certainly well enough to see if there's anybody lurking around your vehicle. I would think another good option for stealth parking would be a small airport. At my local airport and the two nearest to me, parking is either free or very cheap ($12 for 24 hours), and nobody is likely to bother you if you park there late at night, since you might just be planning to take the earliest flight out.

@@storychasing If you're ever going through Boise, Idaho I have the PERFECT street-next-to-a-hotel spot just off the freeway. Just let me know if you're ever passing through and I can send coordinates. There's a great one in Page, Arizona, one in Burley, Idaho, another in Twin Falls, Idaho and no doubt many others. I always scope out on Google maps first to look for a particular type of side-street because not all of them have this good street setup.

I made the mistake of camping at a boat launch on opening day...boaters were launching just after 2 am, laughing and drinking....and my dog barked when anyone came close.

I worked at a Hilton Garden Inn and people parked boats, vans, work van all the time, we never checked tags even though we issued them. ..... Another fact- 90% of us underpaid employees didn't care who parked in our lot, at least one desk clerk would take "tips" to let non guest use our guest only electric car chargers. Point being, we just didn't care.

Medium size hospitals that do not have parking garages may work. Lot's pf people come and go 24/ 7 between employees and visitors. Car dealerships are good after business hours as your van may be presumed to be there overnight for maintenance that takes more than a day. Also gyms that reopen 24/7 re good. any dinner that is open all night may work. Any auto repair shops could work as explained above. Smaller regional airports are a thought. One may pay say $20.00 to park for 24 hours, but no one will bother you and you are night. Small airports do not have a lot of flights between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM Also the airport will have restaurants , restrooms, vending machines, ect.

Thanks for the good tips, Amber! I have not tried stealth camping yet. I like to arrive mid-afternoon and hangout, and I didn't want to worry my dad lol. I've been meaning to get some motion lights, I'll find your link.There were a few times I was out elsewhere at a campground and it was dark by time I got to the van and it was hard to see to get in. And, you are looking brighter and pet hair always gets EVERYWHERE! 😆

Tara C 😊 lol...I couldn't believe it when I saw her hair on me. I wasn't going to reshoot, just go with it and laugh. Oh for sure get the motion sensor lights. It's great to have for a variety of reasons. You can also set it to stay on the whole time so if you're out at a neighbors chatting and it gets dark, you can see where your vehicle is. :) Happy camping friend.

HI Amber! Great video. I was wondering -- do you think you could do a video on WATER? How do you like your Berkey? Any problems with it? (We're considering buying one and your opinion would be helpful.) What's the water quality like out there on the road? Is it hard to find good drinking water? How often do you buy bottled water? Do you keep an emergency stash? Do you drink from your on-board tank or just use that for dishes, etc.?

Thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks. I mentioned before in a comment that I am about to venture out on my first SUV camping. I'm from Washington state but now live in Arizona. Doing a PCH and Oregon Coast trip! Looking forward to all these great pull outs you referred to. I've also stealth camped in a hospital parking lot too and was able to use the restrooms. They are used to people coming and going all night through the ER lobby. I ordered the the motion light as well. Thank you again. See you out on the highways and byways! 🌟

A lot of newer neighborhoods don’t allow ANY street parking overnight. My daughter’s neighborhood in AZ has a strict no parking (even if you live there) 2am-5am. Only park if there are other people parking.

I live in Wa state too and I agree. Amber probably doesnt realize how much has changed since she left. The homeless are everywhere. The rest stops are a haven for drug addicts and prostitution not to mention getting your car broken into while you are in the restroom. The worst I have found is up near Marysville. Even the ones over in Eastern Wa off I-90 can be a little sketch too. It was never that way before but the past few years things have radically changed.
