These are some Spring and Summer Style Rules I currently live by! This makes getting dressed easier for me when I keep these style tips in mind. I hope they are useful ❤️

My rule all year is to have pieces I can layer on top. Restaurants are often freezing, unless you're eating outside and then it's too warm! The car is hot but the store is cold. Watching grandson's ball game -- the air is warm except when the big cloud covers the sun and the breeze comes up. All that. Definitely not a hack; really more of a rule for me.

This! I’m always cold it seems, I live on Vancouver Island so it rarely gets really hot, so need layers even in summer, especially if going into restaurants. And why does my husband think the a/c should be set to a temperature in the summer that would have me bundled up in the winter?? Makes no sense! 😂

I love your last "rule" about not buying clothes that you have to jump through hoops for in order to make look good; but I take it even farther, meaning: I basically refuse to purchase clothing that I have to "style" in order to make look good on me. It either looks awesome as soon as I throw it on or...it stays in the store. The worst offenders are designers (MOST, nowadays) who just weave a fabric down towards some random point, leave off, and call it a day, creating a sack or bag-like blouse/top/sweater. If I HAVE to do a French tuck, in order not to look shapeless? NO. thank you. That's a designer who's passing off saving money (by not making a beautiful ending to the clothing or making SOME, ANY decision as to how to end the thing as opposed to just stopping) as fashion.

The last thing you mentioned. . . I call it “fussy” clothes. I refuse to wear them anymore. If something is uncomfortable, I have to keep adjusting, keep checking, pulling, tucking, or if I hate the fabric, the garment is an absolute NO! In the past two years I have finally become a better consumer. If a piece doesn’t check all the boxes (comfort, easy care, a color I love, looks good on me) I don’t purchase it. I truly have less stuff, but more outfits! (I live in the Hotter-than-Heck South, clothes have to be a natural fabric and have to withstand washing!)

2 minutes in & I'm loving this advice! I didn't realize a long jacket works best with a short dress. What a difference! Even in bitter winter cold, I push my long sleeves up.

I agree with the white pants tip, I was always advised my white pants (unless already oversized) should be sized 1 size up or you look stuffed in the pants. Also if you feel stuffed or compromised in any clothes, donate them to someone who will enjoy them more lol-if you don't like it you are less likely to wear it or even enjoy yourself wearing it.

I appreciate your videos so much and have been withholding a long-held criticism. Anna, here it is, since you mentioned in this episode that you are top-heavy. When I dress, I make it a point to look at all angles, especially from the side, as my goal is to minimize a top heavy look. When you model clothing, it helps when you turn to both sides, and yes, let us see the back too. Shifting from one leg to another looks cute..but does not help the viewer visualize how a solution you suggest might have benefits or drawbacks.

Gurl, I've got the same problem. Shorts have to be longer than mid thigh, preferably almost to the knee. Also, shirts and blouses are best not sleeveless unless being used as an under-layer. I lost the final 15-40 lbs during the pandemic. You recognize your body quirks, and style accordingly. We live with it. On a positive note, I don't worry about size too much any more. 😊

A tip I got (from a book) a loooong time ago is that the shorter the sleeves, the longer your legs look. It works every time! So I do roll up my sleeves a lot. And if I need a light jacket or chunky jumper on top, I roll up the sleeves of the two layers together, so I end up with a contrast cuff of the inner layer. I personally love that look. My style rule for every season is, can I wear it on the bike? If not, I think long and hard about it. So, having done that, I have ordered the Japanese linen long white pants 😂

I usually buy shorts one size larger because I like them to be a bit looser. I hate when my shorts creep up. As to linen pants, my white pair are cropped and partially lined, my tan pair are wide legged, cropped, and unlined. I find myself reaching for the tan ones most frequently because they are more comfortable. Great content as always Anna, thanks!

I love your recommendations for balancing proportion. I feel as if I haven’t paid attention enough to that in the past. Would you also talk about proportions regarding leg length and torso length?

Most of these are in my personal guidelines, too. I always feel frumpy if I don’t show my waist, for one thing, so I tuck all tops in (unless wearing one over another as a “jacket”, but I don’t do that much, either). Comfort is always first priority for me, and the most important aspect of that is breathable fabric. Natural fibers and the rayon/lyocell family are the only ones I buy. Great tips, thanks, Anna.

I am tucking tops in more recently than I have for a few years, but when I DON'T tuck, I generally belt it over the layers. Being a somewhat bottom heavy hourglass (pear?), I ALWAYS want to emphasize my waist. If I don't do that I feel frumpy.

Great video! Good idea to go a bit larger with white bottoms and the black belt really makes waist look small. Lots of good basic advice here for dressing in warm weather. Just wish there were lots more cute shorts out there with inseams longer than 7"

I love them all Anna, but at this point in my life the last one is the one I don’t break. I don’t do tops or dresses that you have to wear a special bra and if it is uncomfortable it is a no…wasted way too much money when I was younger. I love these ideas - especially the idea of balancing fitted with loose, helps so much, especially in summer! Would you ever consider doing a video of like "Casual Classy Mom Looks"? As a mom of 3 kiddos, I want to still look put together, but it's also hard to spend a ton of time planning outfits, especially when I will probably have spit up on the top and need to change that half way throughout the day, and any fun "accessories/jewelry" just instantly become teething items for the youngest lol I would love to see your favorite "Real Life Mom" looks that are still put together and more than just leggings and a t-shirt

Even if you don't have much of a waist, you can give the illusion of one by tucking in your top or belting a tunic or oversized blouse. My waist is usually about 10 in. smaller than my chest and 10-13 in. smaller than my hips, but if I was a straight rectangle, I would still wear the belts to GIVE myself a waist. Pardon, just my two cents. 😉😊

I find that black shoes just don't work in the warmer months for me. I feel "clunky', so when in doubt I do a nude shoe. Flip flops are a big no as well, so uncomfortable and messy looking. Beach or pool only. You give thoughtful advice, love your channel.

I like the longer coat with shorty dress, I will style that. I just got a Banana trench coat from Goodwill online for $20. I’m so upset because they packed it horribly and I wound up snipping the collar. Whenever I see the word, “hack” I 😒 and keep scrolling. The word hack has been overused like that song, “Unstoppable” by Sia.

Personal opinion, but....the jeans with the darker/lighter patching....I'm not into it. They always put the darker denim at the crotch and all I see is my son when he has an accident. 😬😆 Just piddle running down the legs. Hahaha! Also...I just found your channel and I'm hooked! Love your work!

You should try not to wear fake lashes and she how it changes your look. Lashes can make you look older. I see a lot of young women do this and wonder why. Great advice BTW
