@@lucaspariano400Changing strings doesn’t take that long, surely! I have an Ibanez 8 string And that takes about 10 minutes tops, without locking tuners! Try changing the strings on a 12 string acoustic!

Had he not passed away, Justin Lowe definitely would have found a way to make this instrument sing. Imagine instead of G3 it was a G5: Tosin, Justin Lowe, Jason Richardson, Misha Mansor, and Aaron Marshall. All playing 6,7, and 8 strings all on 1 stage

This is why it's mostly chugging that sounds worse than a regular bass and guitar, with their appropriately optimized structure, technique, and hardware. Basses have much longer scale lengths, wider string spacings, electronics, etc., for a reason. As someone with absolute pitch, hearing those muddy, buzzy, and flabby chugs was dreadful and a rare case when I was unsure of some notes (yes, chugs have pitch like any other percussive note). Stop stealing other people's jobs.

I remember Agile guitars were making 8, 9, and 10 string guitars back in like 2008 man.. 10 string with a 30" scale. Way before Ibanez even made them. And they were all affordable with cool paint schemes.

I play 2 10 strings fairly regularly. But for one of them it is tuned so that the bottom 4 are standard bass (of course you have to set them up and intonate them properly)

i got the Schecter Damien Platinum 9 and its a lot to get used to. definitely good idea to use a fret wrap. its practically like having a full scale piano in your hands

It doesn't work like that. For that range, piano strings have individual lengths, bass and treble bridges, etc., and basses have much longer scale lengths, wider string spacings, electronics, etc. As someone with absolute pitch, hearing the muddy, buzzy, and flabby chugs in Doom was dreadful and a rare case when I was unsure of some notes (yes, chugs have pitch like any other percussive note).

They make an 18 string guitar. Its like a 12 string but has 6 groups of 3 strings. You can also tune the three strings on each string to give a chorus effect by slighty flattening one string, and slightly raising the other string, or you could come up with your own tuning, tuning the strings like 2 or 3 different variations of a tuning on one neck. Thats an old mandolin trick from 19 century classical mandolin players.

@@mykefuller5284one of the OG’s of the underground djent scene, coined the term “thall.” Buster Odeholm is their drummer/producer, also the guitarist/producer for Humanity’s Last Breath. Check out their stuff. It’s heavy to a ridiculous extent and some of the nastiest metal around, if that’s your thing.

The stupid thing is not this 9-string guitar, what is stupid (I'm not saying that for you in particular, but for guitarists in general) is to think within our own limits and to consider that what we have no use for this, that we don't understand, is stupid, without thinking that there is a niche of musicians who have a real use for these instruments (for something other than boring djent...). (sorry for my shitty english, i learned it only through video games lol)

Bought this and returned it immediately. The QC was absolutely horrible. Truss rod cavity was filled with glue and wood shavings making it unusable. Neck was warped. Wood shavings were all over the pickups. I dont even know how it could pass through QC. I was so excited when I preordered it unfortunately i got disappointed straight away as soon as i picked it up. This got me traumatized of ibanez products 😢

Do what I used to do when I had an 8 string, for this trick you'll need a heavy set of 7 string strings, a 90, and a 9(heavy set of 6 for an 8 string. Now that's all in place, put the 90 on your low string, the nine on your high E, and everything in between and essentially tune to F#BEADGbea but downtune the high A to a high E and everything else correspondingly. On an 8 string it gives you 4 wound and 4 bare with an extra high and low string vs a 6 string.

Honestly if you lookup the 9-string origin and where it’s played most it’s actually jazz guitarist who made the most use out of this guitar actually, literally a bass side and treble side type playing and more. As for metal I do like the sounds they give with this kind of guitar but it’s not that utilized in using all the range in that sense. I own one and it’s a heavy learning curve for me of course been playing 6string mostly

That low C# string is thicker than the A string on my bass. I can't imagine how floppy it feels with a scale length 6" shorter than a standard bass scale length.

Funny part is knowing Ibanez that .090 bottom string is actually way smaller than it should be. Gotta save that 50 cents per string because they will get replaced anyway. I have .085 on my rg8 compared to a .064 or something that it came with. Hell i think they 7th string is a .065 now.

My eight string is strung with a heavy bass VI set,but with 2 extra 100 gauge low "E" strings, not that they are tuned to e lol. Its a caveman chug guitar taken to an extreme, a cheap harley benton multiscale with hardware and pickups worth more than the rest of the guitar. Very,very stupid. I love it ❤

People said the same thing about 7 strong guitars until Korn blew up and every 15 year old new guitarist wanted one. People said the same about 8 strings until Meshuggah re-recorded Nothing with 8 string guitars and never looked back. Once Jet Pack Dinosaurs blow up, every kid will want one of these for Xmas.

I play an 8 string with 90s on. Anything lighter feels way too floppy and I like crisp low strings. I'd love to play on a 9 string one day, clean tones on low strings just sounds so rich

Well if you're tuning to anything lower than D# standard then yeah I'd agree you'd need a higher gauge. But I usually only play in F standard and I do fine with 9-65. Allows me to have some light strings for leads on the normal 6 string part of an 8 string. But then again my 8 string is also a multiscale so that also helps with the bugger strings tension.
