How low is too low? Can't find many bands that use a 10-string!... The final riff is from a song by Rob Scallon Help support future videos at: / saidtoomuchproductions 9-string tuning: C#1 standard 10-string tuning: G#0 standard
i'd say 10 string is probably exactly the line. the G#0 is right on the cusp of not being a discernible note. not that i won't be slapping my clicks and views on the first company to put out an 11 string lol
@sean perry have a google for the guy who designed the 24 string bass and tell me that that mustache doesn't have the audacity to disregard the limits of human perception
@@SaidTooMuchProductions That awesome 10 String Guitar would really rock if Andrew Baena gave it too me (which will happen soon) because With the Tuning: G#, C#, F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, E. I can arrange Piano stuff for a 10 String because if a Pianist is playing some Boogie I take out my 10 String & start bashing away the strings by tapping them on the Fret board making that new sound.
you can never go too low on a guitar because even though all some people want to do is djent but there's always gonna be guitar players who take guitar to the next level and make even a 14 string practical. amazing video!!
Way back when, a 9 string sounded that way too. I think even a guitar that’s just barely above the range of human hearing would be cool as shit to own if we could tighten up the tone. 11 string? 12 string with a high A?
I drew the line at 8 strings. I owned a 7 string back in like 2002 and everyone said it was ridiculous. Then they made 8 strings and got one. But honestly unless you're doing some insane prog like Tosin, there's no need for 9 or 10. It just turns to mud.
A way better idea would be to just take a 9 string and use a G# F# B E A D G B E tuning, i mean you already have a full 8 string range, its okay to skip a string in between 8 and 10. Power chord shape becomes a juicy octave. Besides i bet thats the only way you could play powerful octaves anyways that low since on a 10 string you'd be dodging that fucking fat ass C# and having the thunk of it muted in every octave chord lol..
Just stumbled onto your channel, these videos are GREAT! I went from 6 to 8 string and have stricly only played 8s for the last 5 years and figured id skip another 2 strings and go to 10. Thats how i found this vid. Anyway awesome channel, subbed!!
Yes they did, the nine string did had clearer and crispier toens, but the type of wood and mics also counts in. I want both, both looks and sound really amazing :) The heaviness and the fat sound of the ten string is really insane
9 feels like the line to me. I could see having a 10 just to not have to shift if you're doing sweepy-type stuff way up the neck, but the range below the ninth string is just too muddy to even hear the fundamental.
Not really. Same range, completely different timbre. That's like saying a 10 string guitar is really just a piano because of its range. A bass guitar played in the tenor ranges and above still sounds like a bass played high
love the guitars, love the low heavy riffage but i would hate to change the strings on those crazy sleds. it's inspiring that you commit to researching and finding the right string gauges, scale lengths and everything else that goes with these beastly guitars. i wish i would've researched scale lengths before i bought an agile 8 string. was a really sweet axe but i ended up selling it 3 years ago cause i got tired of mixing, matching string gauges to fit the super long scale. was difficult to find a low f# string that would run over the nut. had to resort to using a bass string. maybe it's easier to get strings nowadays. now i'm back to 6 & 7 stringers, more convenient for my lazy ass but i still really dig the sound of a 8, 9 or 10 string. i like how you get a really good tight low end that doesn't mud out.
Ya, there is no real "standard" set of strings for these guys, you really can't just grab a pack at guitar center or something lol, you gotta shop online. You could also super low-tune your 7-string like "Within The Ruins" if you wanted
I love your videos ! I've an 8 strings guitar and I want to buy an digitech drop pedal for tuning my 8 strings like an 9 strings :D Keep going man, you're the best for 10's !
I think 7 strings are enough for me. I've only ever tried 8 strings at Guitar Centers and they weren't set up to my liking, obviously. I prefer tighter strings, so I always found the low F# to be a little too floppy. If I ever considered getting an 8, I'd have to experiment with string gauges to find something that works.
Two questions how does it that 9 sound on that line 6:30 while you got there that's what I got and is that rapscallions custom guitar or signature I mean cuz I think about buying it but it know what came in at 9 string
You nailed it in the beginning with it maybe being too low to be distorted properly, this is the case imo after hearing that. Or at least using the same amount of clipping like on the higher strings, mebbe higher tension ? Mebbe more/less clipping ? More gain but filtering out the muddy freqs ? Im dying to know how this thing would sound through a 300W mono transistor and a 4x15. Or 8x10. God damnit so many questions. Love your channel man.
You got a better tone on that 10 string than Scallon or Dines on their manystring guitars. This is actually tight and doesn't sound like farts from donkey's ass. Props to you, my man!
so like if i bought a guitar like this, wouldn't it completely destroy the speaker cones in my 4x12? it has celestion G12T-75 speakers. My thought would be to have bass stacks for bass freq and guitar for the mid and treb. thanks
awesome man! Where do you get 10 strings set, I just wanna know before I buy agile 10 strong guitar. Labella has only to 9 string set. is it another way to get them?
I have this exact model, the 102730 Pendulum Pro. It's nice as fuck right out of the box but the low G#0 string is a bit floppy, needs a thicker gauge string for a bit more tension.
I play 7 and 9 and the point of it for me is to be mobile on the neck for moving my hands in an efficient way, and it works. Other than that the 9th C# is barely usable in normal prog like I play.
The very first day I got my 9 string i pitch shifted it down to a 10 string and I feel like a 10 string is the very point where it's just too much. Also it would be really cool if you tuned up with extended range guitars.
It makes sure the strings past the nut don't do weird harmonies and you can dampen the open strings sliding it over the fretboard part, it can be hard to mute all those strings by hand
