When I worked at UC Davis, I was constantly asked to use my vacation days. (It wasn't for my well-being, it impacted the budget because a week's paid vacation comes out of a different coffer.) I went years without using them, generally donated them to people with catastrophic health needs, and only really tapped into them when COVID hit. My response to the uppers asking me to use vacation: "Take away some of my work, and I'll take days off." Funny that they never got the connection, but upper management never knows how things are in the trenches. I can only imagine it's similar in the engineering private sector.

Ya the differences in vacation policies across industries and even companies is crazy - they all have their specific rules 🫠

this is so true- don't assume people know how old you are - i find it jarring that i will be seen and treated like a mature adult in a professional setting when i still feel like an intern sometimes, like i can't believe you trust me with this?? i'm just a kid..

EXACTLY! It even extends outside of work - every time someone calls me "sir" in public, it rattles me to my core 🫠
