Garage wall looks great and organized. The floor ignition key failure was a big expensive thing I had. My mechanic had to go on e-bay to find the bottom part. E- Saab Parts didn’t have it. He said it’s the first major thing to go on a Saab. The furry microphone was a nice touch. 😊 Thanks for posting.👍
Saabs are very good cars if you take care of them. For parts there is a company that makes parts called Orio. For me the best mod you can do to a saab 9-3 is the ecu spacer to protect it. Great video as always keep it up!!
@@motorcity9319 the spacer kit is made to protect the ecu of the 2.0 liter engines, because the ecu sits right above the engine under the black plasic lid and therefore gets a lot of heat which slowly cooks it :/. He made a nice video discussing the topic and showing how to install the kit on the channel :)
Step 1 get a friend with a Volvo, who can come to the rescue when the Saab breaks down. Step 2 go and rescue your new friend when their Volvo breaks down.
One of the biggest recommendations I have for someone looking to buy a Saab (specifically the 9-3 2003-2012 with the B207 engines, the most common Saabs these days) is to change. The. Oil. Per. Schedule. Tons of engine parts in the B207 are hydraulically powered, so it's really important to have the oil switched out in time, to prevent oil sludge buildup - because things can go south pretty quickly. That's what happened with my engine. Oil hadn't been changed in a while by the previous owner, leading to the whole timing chain assembly having to be changed out. Other than that, great engine and great car! Love my 2007 2.0T Vector :)
B207 is the worst option i say. If your American it might make sense since it was fitted to a lot of American cars and spare part might be easy to find but. B2x4 is the ultimate engine it's close to bulletproof Saab engine. The b2x5 was a low friction engine of the b2x4 the block has lost some weight inside by the cylinder walls and smaller valve stems. The low friction piston rings are a common problem and you should not push more then 300hp on the stock internals is recommended only upside is the lager port on the b2x5 head which makes it breath pretty good. If you worked on any Saab you know the order 9000 > 9-5 > 9-3NG.
Good tip on the spare keys - if you have an NG93 and you lose your only fob you're in for a world of headache. I'm amazed how often I see people on the forums and FB post about needing a new key and it turns out they only had one and lost it... why? I get that they cost money, but I've never had a lock in my life where I didn't get a spare key and believe me: on a SAAB it'll cost more to lose your only key than to get a spare up front.

There is a great place for used parts is 93 Auto in New Haven Michigan. I was there again this week to get a new key fob. They have over 50 93's on site. They are both crashed or people gave up on the car. The owner said the biggest reason why people give up is computer failure. Replacements are very expensive and GM won't release the software.

Yes to ALL of your recommendations, though what's true for Saab is also true for almost any car, especially luxury, performance, or turbo: Full synthetic Mobil every 5k mi (no matter what any manufacturer says) and only OEM parts. And to reiterate: If you can't DIY, find a good Saab mechanic, doesn't have to be a specialist (though they do still exist), but someone highly recommended or with referral who appreciates the brand. Personally, I had 2GFS in LA, and now I have a private mechanic and a few other guys from Charles River Saab here in Boston, plus a whole network all over the US, thanks to the internet and YT channels like yours. As for all the rest: TWO keys are... well, key! A new theft system is pretty expensive in any car (ask me how I know.🙄) Other than the CV top, though, I haven't found my '99 9-3 to be much more expensive than the '07 and '09 Camrys we have in the family. All makes have problems, none are perfect, but some are inherently designed well and others not at all. To determine whether or not a car is worth fixing and keeping: Is the repair/replacement to be expected, and is it fixable? In this crazy car market nowadays, this means a lot to me in terms of "reliability". Anyway, sorry for the long note here, but to sum up Saabs, if you're good to them, they'll be good to you!😉
Garage looking good, Saab brother. I manage a auto and tire repair shop in Cary, NC and you're 100% correct and great advice. So many times people purchase used or new car without doing research on the cost of maintenance, cost of tires etc. Great advice
i was thinking you would have mentioned the different engines these cars come with, which ones are good and which ones are not. i often hear stuff like the new gen cars having weaker internals and poor reliability, and that you should try to find a og saab with the red top
i can roughly remember that he made some videos about the different engines used by saab, i only remember the video comparing the 2.0T to the 2.8T more vividly. But you will find much info if you look in the interwebs ;) For now i only can list the engines used in the 9-3 made since 2003, which are: the 1.8i and t, the 2.0t/T and the 2.8T v6 (for gas/petrol), and the 1,9tid/ttid for diesel. I hope i could help you out a bit :)
T5 cars are stronger if you're really trying to make big power when it comes to the four cylinders, but the best "power" engine is the 2.8 v6 in the 06-09 9-3 aero...500+ on the stock motor is possible
Since you mention coil packs, I have a 06 v6 and some caddies have a very similar engine so when I needed coil packs I was able to scavenge from them at the junk yard. Same Bosch part number and all In 4 years of junk yard surfing, I’ve only seen one other v6 at the junk yard so that makes you get creative
I agree with everything but the only thing that I’m not able to do is to do the repairs. I can make full detailing and clean my k&n air filter and thats it. Generally i have a fake fear that if I’m going to do something I’ll brake it and generally speaking to avoid brakedowns you need someone with experience with you, to guide you. At least just for the beginning until you’ll get some basic experience. You don’t have the luxury to brake parts, especially because is Saab and you need some time to search and find new.
love all the license plates, really good collection. also, good video, when these cars are maintanenced properly. they will drive well for many hundreds of thousands of miles.
to go along with the OEM vs aftermarket parts. going on any of the saab forums will give you a good idea of what is okay to buy aftermarket and whats better getting strictly OEM
One of the cool things about owning Saabs, is learning all the stuff to watch out for. "I am buying a saab. What should I watch out for?" "Well, here is a list of items and mileage each one hit me on..." After owning several and following chats, they become very predictable.
I bought a '07 93 tid estate last year. Lovely car but not without it's issues. Major issue is the "steering lock malfunction' warning which prevents me from locking my car with the fob. If I lock it manually, it drains my battery overnight. This happens often. Sometimes I can clear it by taking it for another drive, sometimes I can clear it by repeatedly and rapidly putting the fob in and out of the ignition, sometimes nothing works and I have to disconnect the battery before I can recharge it. I live in Australia's smallest state and I have only been able to locate one mechanic with a Tech 2 programmer 2 hours drive away and is usually too drunk to recall our previous conversations. I've tried to get a spare key fob and it's going to cost me $Au650 for the OEM replacement. I don't have that kind of money laying around. My question is, is it worth investing in a Tech 2, and are the generic versions as good as the original? This car is driving me nuts.

Someone tboned me the other day. Really just a small fender bender $5800 estimate to fix. 2010 xwd 149k miles great condition wouldn’t be surprised if insurance wants to total cuz car is worth 6500 kbb and that’s top dollar sad day. Where else could you find something just as loaded with options in this market ☹️
@@AutoAutopsy hey do you know how to reset the oil life on the Sid after new oil change I have done my first oil change on my 2.8 L aero and it still says 14% I have a note pad where I marked the mileage for my next service but I want to reset this oil life display I read on a forum that it’ll ask me to rest once it hits 10% any tips or tricks for this
