Gorgeous dog. I've never had a doberman, but several of my friends have, and they have all been some of the sweetest, most docile dogs I've ever had the privilege of knowing.
training your puppy to bark, and show playfull aggression. as it is now a game for the dog. you need to keep ontop of that "game" or you will cause further issues with your dogs behaviour
The reason dobermans tails are docked is so that as a working dog their tails dont get in the way, the ears are cropped so that the dog can hear better for when they were used for security or police dogs. Over time it has become a breed standard. Cropping ears and docking tails is no more barbaric then spaying or neutering! These procedures are done by a vet and with anesthesia! Do your research people! As for the video I am truly inspiried your video insipired us to begin training our puppy.
If you are going to train a dog to be protective you "must" also train your dog to "stop" on your command and return to a "peace" position. I would also train this word immediately after you train for the word vicious so that the dog will come to expect this word to be spoken.
"Vicious" is a very smart idea - train the dog to look fierce on command to discourage bad guys. Reward the dog when it growls. It's not teaching the dog to be vicious, it's teaching the dog to appear vicious on command which is a very different thing.
That's adoreable how well trained your doberman is. Your "vicious" command can come in handy for defense. When she's full grown, if someone were ever to give you a hard time that vicious command will give them cold feet quick. lol
I'd change it from "Vicious" to "HELP!" or "Stay away!" because when the witnesses get onto the stand at your trial, they'll be able to say "The attacker must have deserved to get bit because the dog owner was yelling for help, or yelling for him to stay away. Why do you think cops yell "STOP RESISTING" over and over and over..... so everyone around assumes the suspect is resisting and justifying the cops getting hands on. Dobermans have a bad reputation because of crap like this.
Very cute!! Not to brag, but my male Dobe puppy learned Sit, Wait, Off, Down, leave it, and go get it at 6 weeks!! They are such an intelligent breed, very stubborn though haha.
Well if a puppy leaves it's mother and litter before 8 weeks they typically have less bite inhibition and at 4.5 weeks many puppies aren't even weaned.
Good obedience, but... Please try not to use as many treats to train your Doberman. They relate this training to food and will respond accordingly only when food or treats are present. It makes them dependant on it in order to complete a training task. Yes I know the puppy is young, but this action will carry into their adult life. But on the other hand it is nice to see an owner taking the time to work with their Doberman. Good luck ma'am.
+towboater781 Not true, that only will happen if you don't intermittently phase the food out of the training session. I use treats to train any dog and have never had the problem you're talking about.
Never train with treats..! The reward for obeying a command should ONLY be praising the dog. (Only a short second) If you read up on doberman's.. They are very aggressive PACK leaders. They will pick one person to lead.. The one who brings the food is the submissive one. Your showing your dog that he is the boss. Not good at all with a Doberman. Also, you should never have to repeat a command more than once. It tells the dog that he doesn't have to obey you one the first command. Watch my vid
Why are there so many angry comments? I have owned many Dobes over many years and each of them, although very much the same, have had their own characters. However......each of them has been a blessing to have as a part of our family and are missed desperately. Zac, our current Dobe, has been the most interesting so far. He is our gentle giant..... he will welcome strangers onto our property...... : )))) but will not let them leave. What a legend.
@713daddyj And the problem you have is not about obidience, it's about you not being the boss, not knowing about dogs and she being a puppy. A dog might be the most obidient with the owner having no chance with them without a treat or a leash. Start watching Cesar Millan. I don't want you to become one of the people he needs to help. And good luck and hard work if you decide to keep your dog.
@713daddyj Remember. Your dog is a puppy, she WILL bite things, that will come of later, and surely you must have noticed the person here is having treats right in front of the dogs face. Yeah, wonder why the puppy is doing what it's told. And if you don't want the dog to keep you awake at nights, do not listen to it. She will learn to get things by whining. She also might have to take a pee, so take her out EVERY SINGLE TIME she eats, drinks, or plays. Because that's when se will pee.
@713daddyj I want to answer too. I had an rottweiler puppy, sure they are not exacly the same, actually, if you are having problems already, I suggest you give the dog back. I never had problems with mine. He was very high energy, but that was easily dealed with enough exercise. Try meeting your friendly neighbourhood dogs, get to a fenced safe yard and have her having fun, socialize and spend time that way. Besides. 7 week old and already separeted from her family? That's way too early.
@ggbmbr Well it doesn't only sound like a boys name it's actually a boys name. Anubis was the Egyptian god of the death rites. But then again he isn't really a man either since he is portrayed as a male human body with a dogs head. So well you could say it's a more fitting name for a male dog but then again who cares at the end of the day as long as the dog is as cute as this one? :)
@Vimtox So, you have nothing better to do than pick the woman for the wording? Some of you people need to get over yourselves. This is directed all the fools that are getting worked up over her training the dog. WHO GIVES A SHIT! Leave her to her cute puppy. You want to discuss it further, become a trainer and start a blog.
@TheRunescapePlayerz oh right so I'm not alone with that issue then. Thank you! I have the feeling that my dobermann knows the comand after 2 to 3 times of doing it but then again she doesn't feel like doing it and she's not the one to do anything for food. I also heard American Dobermanns are easier to train than European ones? Do you know if that's true?
u dont need treats. i have a 1 year old pitbull and i got her at 6 months. personality comes with a dogs size. but to train a dog the key is to not let a dogs size dictate her personality. treats are un necessary and a bad habit. solid treatment and a good routine does it all. how the trainer is the dog will be!!!
@MrBroski619 Nah, its not. You can use anything that your dog or puppy is motivated with. If the puppy is more interested in the ball, then why not, use the ball. it will focus on you more. if it it more interested in the treat then the ball, then use that. :)

Hi. That's such a cutie!! How to you keep her so calm? my 8 week old doberman is always jumping at me and it is quite hard to teach her anything.. any tips?
I wouldnt try and teach an 8 wk old puppy of ANY breed much of ANYTHING at 8 WEEKS OLD!! Good grief, they are still just being a puppy, let them alone! at 3 months you can mildly teach them, at 6 months basic training, dont do it before then, you will make them eternally anxious by expecting too much too soon, 40 yrs exp. with dobermans
I taught mine to sit at 8,5 weeks. it only took a few days before he got the hang of that. However, when i tried to teach him other commands he would just sit. at that age they may have problems telling the difference between commands, so you can try, but i wouldn't have high expectations at such a young age. That, and that a puppy has a very short attention span. i spent maybe 5 minutes twice per day, after which he lost interest and went back to playing with his ball.
+Lauren Johnson No that's incorrect, training dogs should start as early as possible. I don't know what kind of training you're doing to cause a puppy to become anxious, I train dogs for a living, and there is nothing wrong with training puppies, you'll just end up with much better trained dog when they're adults. I've never once caused a puppy to become anxious.
@hipnoticcraz they look like kibble pieces. If they aren't kibble, then it's probably training treats. I give my pup, like, 10+ every time she comes to me without being told and that's how I taught her how to come to me. So, really, not that many treats.
hey i would love to know if dobies go well in apartments cause i m going to own 1 soon and if not can u plzzzzz recommend me any other breed which goes well in apartment?i m from India and i really need one pet dog?
good job. but you give her a lot of the little treats. but it doesnt matter. that doberman is adorable. and i love the floppy ears. i like how your voice is stern but not mean and clear. it helps the dog. GOOD JOB!
@Mrcritic2525 the dog was just barking for the treat its not actually her commanding it, thats just what she thinks.. she holds the treat infront of it teasing it so it barks at her, not obeying the command
never needed consant treets with my dogs ,I was king with out reprotch, and my subjects were loved and well cared for, they defended the home land , and were backed by the king of hell fire ,that is the dog way of life.
can you please tell me how you trained your puppy so well.. i have a 7 week female dobi just like your .. but mine is really crazy.. she likes to bite every thing, run everywhere, and wine all nite... can you please help me
@MsSourNSweet what toy is this??? that you stick a bottle in??...he has two kongs as well, and wont play with them that often unless theres food or peanut butter in them...like yours, he LOVES squeaky things!!!
rubbish, you move the treat in your hand and the puppy follows. You raise your voice slightly and it barks. Treat training is soooo bad. Try waiting till it's a little older and just use praise for these commands
This is such a beautiful doberman, so well trained too! Please tell me some of your secrets! Layla is 12 weeks and can do almost all of these but not as well! Anubis is an awesome name too!
Australia and New Zealand have outlawed ear cropping and tail docking as well. The United States is one of the last strongholds for barbarism in terms of animal welfare in the western world.
Praising a dog for viciousness/demanding food? This was uploaded a couple years ago, so she's at least two years old... I hope that trick didn't hurt her growing up to be a sweet dog!
@pickednads6 Usually it's the tone of the soul command that makes it....well, a command. It's highly unlikely the dog would distinguish it from random speech and confuse it as a command.
I wish my Dobermann pup had the attentionspan yours does. Whenever I take her to training she's instantly sidetracked by ANYTHING around her. How do you teach your dog to growl?
my dob is 7 weeks tomorrow.... i better start with training! i'm working on the pottie training right now.... she's already 10.5 lbs!! she's gonna be a big girl .... cute video =]
anubis is 9 WEEKS old.. puppies are llegal to take home at 8 weeks. 1) shes in a new enviorment 2) she learned all that in a week 3) its a puppy not a dog.
@Vimtox What a silly thing to say. It's a very young puppy, and this is how you train dogs. Later the puppy will do all these things by voice command alone.
@MREAGLEPAUL Unless the name is actually Anubias which is a beautiful green freshwater plant? But yes Anubis is for sure male, and that would puzzle me as well.
beautiful Dobe... well behaved and a good start to trainging but you should start trying to train her with out treats. when u use treat she learns that when she listens to u she gets food, but what if she wants that squirrel running across the yard more then your treat. shes going for the squirrel every time. train her like you would your child. listen to me every day all the time then youll get a treat at some point... disobey or be bad then u get punished immediately.
Not to be a 'killjoy' but most capable Dobie owners should be able to perfect these tricks/tasks in afew days with a little patience. Don't get me wrong this owner is more than capable! Some people do not realize how intelligent this breed is. I have never owned any dog as loyal & alert as a Doberman(n). Pleased to say we have two (male & female) & as said, with a little patience I can't imagine having another breed by my side (which they always are!) Gr8 vid, (looks just like our female :)
Shame about the tail. But at least she has the ears. Sad America is so backwards with that while Europe care so much more for it's animals. Not that it's great with some other issues, but the animal and environmental laws Europe generally has should be adopted by the US states.
Impressed, i have an 8 week old, and ive been working on leash training, crate training, and homebreaking, all of which are getting better, but there little bladders, he pee's in the house a lot. getting better day by day, but crap!!!
I’m certainly not saying your methods are incorrect. This breed is very intelligent and your doing a great job. Well done. My first Doberman was waiting for me when I got home from being born, Ive had them in my life since then as have my children. Ill be 55 in a couple of months
Anubis, what a beautiful name! That was what I was going to call my first female Dobe too, but I ended up taking on a rehome, so she came with a name already. Hope Anubis grows up to be a fine dog, she looks great so far! All the best.
when we went to get our min pin's tails done we were told that they just cut them with scissors...no anesthetic! but when she told us there was no real reason for it in pets we decided against having it done! they look so cute with their tails though!
Very cute! They are such a smart breed. Our dobie is 8 weeks old, and he hasn't barked yet. I'm kinda jealous yours is doing speak and vicious - I'd love to hear ours bark. :)
