I can't believe this is the only video on RU-vid that shows the very basic structure of creating/connecting a webpart to a list/document library. This video is a tremendous help to someone looking to get started in SPFx. Now I just need a video that further explains what all this extra pre-generated stuff is exactly. For now... Google. Thank you again, you're an excellent teacher!

awesome, so glad you found this helpful! All of that "pre-generated stuff" is super overhwhelming. To date, I have no idea on what everything does and why it is needed. Once I find myself in the src folder to where I can create web parts, modules, and all of my interfaces, I just live there. SPFx was very intimidating for me. I had to fight hard to finally get comfortable with it, as the learning curve was steep and I needed to learn so much tech at one time (GIT, CMD switched, Yeoman, Gulp, React, ES6, get use to Visual Code (.vs Studio), JavaScript in general, project structures, best design with interfaces, modules, and web parts, how to bake in re-useability, async calls in JS, creating reusable async base functions, and so on). Here's the other kicker, once I spent the many weekends (and pots of coffee) to learn it, today, I rarely use it :-(. Back in the day we had to customize EVERYTHING to make SharePoint look decent and useable, but with the rich OOB web parts in modern SharePoint, that need has dropped by over 95%. In the end, a very good skill to know, you may have to "create projects" to stay fluent, but unfortunately the need for custom web parts is not as great as it used to be

First off hats off , amazing tutorial , theres not much content out there for spfx and most of it garbanzo. You however made it so fun to watch and also straight to the point. At 1:16:29 the default export syntax is ok and used a lot , mainly you would want to not use it if you have mutliple exports from the same file but when we export a component, we want to use default export which doesnt use curly braces so that we can specify that this is infact the react component and not some random function or something else

Can't believe I sat through the whole session with a few very short stops only. The best part of this video is not copying and pasting the code already works, DeShon typed the code and fixed the errors along the way. That is the best way to learn. Thanks for taking 90 minutes, rather than 30 minutes. One question is the link property you used at line 47 of App.tsx file at 55:31, what is it? it is not in the props of quicklinkbyList.

Your explanation is Great✌😊 Can we use Axios to make calls to Sharepoint? or SPHTTPCLIENT is must. I tried to access lists using Axios in SharePoint. Like I've 18 lists and using Axios I tried to get details like Title, GUID, Items count in a table. It works fine but sometimes I get React minification error. I used UseState hooks for this

Hi there, I'm new to SPFx so my doubt could be silly for you. Anyways, these SPFx solutions can be used to build massive web parts like "Home" and "Admin" where we will change the web part information of data in admin page and it will directly reflect to the Home(actual visible for the customer) web part? Like this the non technical guy can also change the data in home just by going to admin page of that particular home page and do the changes?
@DeShonClark
@DeShonClark 11 месяцев назад
Yes, you can virtually create anything. A couple of things to clarify...home and admin are not flexible to use your own custom web parts...but you can create your own page and recreate that same functionality on the home/admin screen...I highly recommend against it... cause you will custom build 98% of the oob functionality just to get that 2% missing feature. With that said...what are you missing? What's driving you to add custom feature to those areas?

Hi DeShon, are all SPFx web parts now made using VScode and React or do people still make it with C# code?
@DeShonClark
@DeShonClark 2 года назад
hey Bryan...all VSCode (React, or handlebars, or Angular). It took me a while to convert from C# to angular...it was extremely steep curve, but doable. stick with it...and once it "clicks" you're off to the races.

Sir, Can u pls tell me what is prerequisites apart from react to be good in spfx development with react
@DeShonClark
@DeShonClark 2 года назад
there is so much to unpack in the SPFx web part development. The learning curve is steep, but with much practice you can be very good at it. I have 16 years of SharePoint development, but that does not help a lot with SPFx, as everything is way different than previous versions of SP. I would say learning React is biggest piece, and then SHarePoint api and then MS Graph API. Once you have the fundamentals down with calling restAPIs, processing the JSON, and using Fluent UI to display the results....you're 90% there

What will you recommend for forms : SPFx or Powerapps?

Definitely start with Power Apps, unless licensing gets in the way or it's a very complex form.

SPFx is not as strong of a need as it use to be, due to the featured rich OOB web parts. If you are new to the SharePoint platform as a professional, I would highly recommend mastering the Power Platform first (Power Apps, Power Automate, and then Power BI)...these will add magnitudes of value to any organization vs. SPFx
