In this video i explain how box cavities work with better airflow seperation at the end, increased base pressure for less of a suction cup effect, and a smaller wake size.

If you had those precision cut and painted to match, they'd look absolutely amazing. It makes me sad manufacturers wont make subtle changes to the structure of the car or transmission for MUCH better mpg, but they'll totally ruin an engine in pursuit of 3mpg.

Amazing to see normal people try these things. I wish I had what it takes to even get started to experiment with all my ideas. One thing that bugs me a lot when watching aerodynamic videos is that is under the car, especially internal combustion engine cars , where it might need work to improve aerodynamics. Usually all the structures shapes under the cars are really rough and it might help to cover it up with some kind of plastic sheet or something to smooth out the flow of the wind under the car.

There are lots of videos of people doing aftermarket smooth bodies and how to with different materials. I would’ve done more of it but I don’t have a car lift or even car ramps so getting under the car is harder. My next car will definitely involve getting a “ cat shield” and then extending it a little farther down the exhaust channel for better aero and adding a smooth diffuser at the rear

Effectively it looks like it's a car equivalent to winglets on aircraft. Winglets on mid (biz jet) to large (airliner) size aircraft have exploded in the past ten years (or so) because of their aerodynamic benefits.

Dibond for the wheel covers and just an abs sheet for the fins. Made both mods out of cardboard and taped them originally to test them out and finalize the shape

I just missed the oppertunity to grab a 66hp, 16kWh, 60 mile range Citroën CZero (Mitsubishi i-MiEV) and reasearched aero mods. And that jelly bean was given practically zero attention to aero design. Or heat insulation... On a forum there was one post that made wind guards (like window rain guards) placed just above the front wheel well. Could be worth a try! I would love to know how you made or gotten the tappets, the material, etc

Are you sure you're Not adding " vortices' ? The design that works is shown in 8:05 . Yours doesn't taper in and the entire trunk needs to be attached to the sides. Without a proper ABABAB test confirmed at the same fuel pump, I doubt your 'mod' did anything besides add vortices.
@PhaseSkater
@PhaseSkater 15 дней назад
It is tapered in. It’s not a perfect design but there are separation edges at the trunk spoiler lid and tail lights and so on. The rear pressure has increased. Rear stability seems better at high speeds too. I’ve measured gas mileage improvement but I do admit the overall design could be improved and isn’t perfect

why does the efficiency drop at 80 miles per hour? like at the end of the video you states that it goes down to 59mpg, which is what it is rated for, do yk why this happens

I can’t believe why auto makers don’t think of these things. 👍🏽
@PhaseSkater
@PhaseSkater 9 месяцев назад
They know it works and sometimes they fund studies and then do “ miniature “ versions of these mods. Remember, the goal of the automakers is to sell cars and make a car look good for your average consuming. People would rather buy a regular looking car that gets 40 mpg than a funky car that gets 80 mpg. It’s what makes it off the sales lot that matters, not the car mpg

@@ldsupra no. It has a lifetime warranty on the battery. Only issue I’ve had is that elevation changes sometimes trigger the check engine light to coke on because of the different oxygen levels but then it usually turns off after a day or two. Also build quality inside is cheaper plastic and sometimes rattles with loud road noise. Idk how the higher trims feel though. This is the base model with plastic insides and cloth seats.

Now imagine what the never-reported 4-seater (1990's) EV range record-holding(373 miles) Solectria Sunrise could have achieved with those extended side aerofoils. The Sunrise was developed with help from DARPA and also had drag-cutting but only partly-covered rear wheels. It was also powered by NiMH batteries not by much more energy-dense lithium ion batteries. So if the Solectria had those extending side aerofoils AND a li-ion or LFP battery pack it could surely have achieved 500 miles on a single charge 25 years ago if the project hadn't been terminated in the early 2000's after oil-men Bush & Cheney moved into the White House instead of green Al Gore. Why shouldn't you be driving at 55 mph!? Just because the top allowable speed is 65 mph and the rest of the sheeple flock is driving faster!? At the end of the day, the time savings is negligible anyway!
@PhaseSkater
@PhaseSkater 7 месяцев назад
I was almost getting rear ended by semi trucks and disrupting the flow of traffic. And I agree for short trips that going slower versus faster barely makes a difference by only a few minutes. But if you’re doing a road trip and driving 800 miles in one day, a few mile per hour difference can save you HOURS. Saving 5 bucks isn’t worth turning a 12 hour trip into a 15 hour trip for example.

@PhaseSkater
@PhaseSkater 11 месяцев назад
That’s a plug in. That’s cheating. That’s also for a short distance. If you had him drive the whole tank from full to empty in one trip, like Portland to Boise or something similar, the Prius prime would have a total readout of LOWER MPG than even a normal non plug in Prius

That’s like saying a Tesla gets 300mpge. You’re also measuring an extremely short range with the battery charged. If you filled up and fully charged a Prius prime and then drove it nonstop from full to empty, it would be way lower than 100 mpg.
