Bill I am a locksmith. That lock is used on a storage room rolling gate. You see them a lot in warehouses. Where they want to secure a portion of the warehouse. It is not used on a postal box as you thought. Just wanted to let you know. I have been working on them for years now. You do great work. Keep it up. Kenny

Just one thing though I"m sure you already noticed, the bible was threaded to match the core so 2 and 4 aren't threaded. I think this brand is no longer around it was a made in america lock, or atlas the door it came in is...

Nice picking. Regular stock locks you get use to picking fast. Modified locks that's when the real skill shows a good lockpicker true skills. Thanks.

Has anyone seen the master lock self rekey able locks. I was in home depot and passed by it. looks to be a slightly different core with bars instead of pins. I may have to pick one up to disassemble later

It’s my dad’s business. I’ve made thousands of those locks. Circa 1970

These locks were called Multi-Lock because by just changing the tongue you could make it a left hand , right hand, hinge door lock, slide door lock or dead bolt. The ring nut on the back of the cylinder should have been tightened against the back of the casing to prevent it from being loose. I’ve worked on thousands of those locks and casings. It was a family business for most of its years in operation.

I'm sure you'll realise once you watch it back but 4 wasn't threaded in the bible. Same top & bottom. You don't need a scipt mate :) Maybe just a small post-it with an order of operations or something just to glance at if you forget. Then maybe another post-it to remind you to look at the post-it. :P I'm going to be making enquiries tomorrow about becoming a locksmith! Mainly watching your videos has made me want to. I have engineering and machining skills that I hope wiull transfer over to that trade from Toolmaking. When I do and finally start making some money again, I can finally show you some appreciation! Keep up the good work! I wish you could do 1 challenge lock a day, but judging by the amount of stuff you had in the lab in the show-around vid, I imagine you're incredibly busy!

Hi! I got myself a lockpick set yesterday and it came with a transparent padlock that I can unlock in 5 seconds with most picks.. however I can't pick the lock of my apartment for the life of me... I know it's been only a day, but I tried for hours... The thing is, that lock is falling apart.. everything is extremely loose and old.. If I put too much pressure, the plug rotates quite a bit without unlocking the door. Sometimes is hard to unlock even with the right key... Tried around 10 picks and nothing seems to work... any ideas?

First, don't pick your door lock - just in case something goes wrong. Second, after only 1 day you are expecting too much progress. This is a hobby that depends on developing feel and technique. I recommend you go to the LockLab website and take the free lock picking course before getting too frustrated.lock-lab.com/locklab-university/lock-picking-course-2/

lol... I got a 5 dollars padlock yesterday and I can pick it under a minute... I couldn't resist and tried my door again... no luck still. Gotta get a few more padlocks.

How are serrations making it harder to pick?

More difficult to tell if the pin is set. each serration may grab and produce a "click" but there is no false set, have to return to the pin over again to get a true set from the pin.

Israeli Mul-T-Lock would be spelled out in Hebrew as מולטילוק or רב-בריח. I'm not quite sure which one. What made you think it was an Israeli lock? Edit: Did some googling and I learned that Mul-T-Lock is an Israeli company.

Picking a lock that is out of its surroundings (door, shutter, hatch, window, etc.) and held in a vise, while sitting at a bench with all the tools at hand, plus great light, is a bit of an easy challenge. How about doing a lock picking with the lock in its natural setting and having to carry your tools? This would be much more interesting. Get out of the classroom.

It’s a challenge lock, ie deliberately designed to be v tough to pick without ever being installed in a real life setting. These locks will be much harder to pick than virtually any commercial one. Also do you really want Bill to wander round trying to pick peoples front doors whilst capturing it on a GoPro?
