Good morning from middle NC! We finished our trek to our new home yesterday. Ended our 17-year time in MidMo. Kids and grandkids (and we) are excited! About the barn: Interesting information and pleasantly surprised by the price! Building alone is about $18/sqft, and finished about $30/sqft. Not bad for what you’re getting. It is a pleasant design. I think you’ll like that stone accent, although more wainscoting would have been ok there too. Even the slight pitch change on the porch roof is good. Windows and doors break up the walls nicely. Nice design!

I’ve got $73K into my 40’ X 60’ X 18’ shop (w/ 7 windows, one man door, and a 14’ X 14’ roll up door) in North Idaho, including land clearing (thickly forested), site grading, pole barn building (with sheeted roof for snow load and concrete bedded posts), and concrete (20’ X 60’ is 4” slab and the other half is 6” slab). I’m so excited for the Morgan Family. That doesn’t include plumbing, electrical, insulation, and indoor framing for a bathroom and bedroom).

Our building in Florida was originally built in 1977, it was all metal I beam. It was 40x60 it had 2 end walls with windows that didn't open anymore. It was open in the front and back except for one end that was enclose with an upper storage. Overtime the metal roof leaked one skylight blew out from hurricane Irma. We called the company who put it up to replace the metal that was rusted out and to have new walk doors and roll up doors plus new girts installed where they weren't. They wanted over $80,000. Nope not paying that much. Called another contractor and he was $30,000 cheaper. So what we did was call the first place and order new panels and other parts we needed to do it ourselves. I replaced all the old girts that had rusted out with new pieces. I had to have a buddy of mine who was an electrician to replace the electrical panel with a new one, the building had its own service. One end we just repainted it cause it was in good shape. Opposite end we removed and it wasn't as easy as we hoped it would be. I had some new concrete replaced in the front and back to secure the panels on the bottom. After all this we decided to sell and we bought a house in Missouri out in the sticks not many neighbors. We sold the house quickly and new owners were left with finishing the building. Now here in Missouri we have a 40x65 pole barn with beautiful concrete floor, insulated and I'm installing new LED lights through out and we are happy.

About 10 12 yrs I saw in an Amish farm field stacks of lumber and other bldg supplies. It was for a barn raising. A bank barn. I was fixing my own barn, so I stopped and asked the Amish gentleman about it. He said that he had $90,000 in it as it was, the footers and basement walls done, and the lumber ready for the following day. At least 200 Amish and neighbors showed up to build that barn. Looked to be about 40 x 80 or so, at least 40 ft to the peak. It was raised in one day, ready for use. No labor cost at all. They all worked, visited, ate great food, and for them it was like a vacation. Most stayed all day, maybe 12 to 14 hrs for some. Long comment. My point: you really got a great deal! It looks solid, well done. Congrats. This was even more enjoyable than usual.

In my experience, they don't really add much value to the property (from a resell point of view). I purchased my place 3 years ago and it came with a 30X40 steel framed building, concrete floors, etc... It also has a swimming pool. Neither increased the price of the house compared to comps in the area. If anything, it increases your tax bill each year. All that being said, they are worth it.
@jrbrumley9334
@jrbrumley9334 3 года назад
@@waynetharp actually not quite correct. When I built my building the appraisal went up significantly. By the time I finished my 50' X 80' with 16' sidewalls and a 10' X 50' lean. All the concrete and with three horse stalls increased the value of my place nearly $100,000.00 not only on my tax appraisal but the bank took into consideration my building. The price of construction has only gone up (as well as my taxes) and the value of my property has increased tremendously. One other thing that might play into my statement is three things; location, location location!

@LifeWithChase 3 года назад
@@BigGary79 That's what the appraiser told me as well i built a nice 40X50X16 shop and he said it would only increase my property value 12-15k! Doesn't make sense to me but that's what I was told...

Make sure you install 2" rigid Foam x 2' wide under the concrete slab around the interior perimeter of the barn--This is due to the fact that you will be heating the barn. If you don't do this you will get Frost heave in the winter under that slab around the perimeter of the barn

I love the comparison between the SUV and the building cost, that was classic. I own a concrete pump business and have been in the industry for 20 years Mike. I don’t want to be a “ you should” but, have you thought about a heated concrete floor in there? It’s a little money up front, but I’ll GUARANTEE you will not be disappointed. You might already be doing it and the video isn’t out yet, but seriously think about it. It’s so worth it and doesn’t cost much at all to run compared to any gas heater or electric heat. It’s the best and most efficient heat source you will ever get. No ugly heaters hanging in the corners of your beautiful garage either kicking on every 15 minutes in the winter with all that noise. All the floor heat needs is warm water and a little circulator pump, very low cost on your end. Good luck and have fun with the new space!!

We had a 1 acre pond dug for just under $30,000. We’ll still be enjoying the pond when that truck is a pile of rust. It’s all in what a person sees as a priority I suppose. God bless. You’re right on target when it comes to comparing what other things cost. I got a quote from a general contractor who would manage everything including rough in electrical and plumbing, in floor heat, garage doors etc and it was $75k. I see an expensive car going down the highway and think that cost more than a pole barn. You never mentioned what kind of heat you are planning to install. In floor heat in that 5” slab would be awesome.

My guess was $50,000 for the building, but I forgot to take into account the concrete. I think it's money well spent. It looks great. Perfect colors. The wainscoting is a great idea. I have a steel building on my property that was already here when I bought the place. 100% of the dents are on the bottom 1/4th of the building from someone probably running into it with the lawn mower. If you can, keep a few of those wainscoting panels on hand so it'll be an easy fix if one happens to get dented.

I built a 40x60x16 steel building w/ 3:12 pitch and two 12x13 rollups in 2015 for about $45k - this is insulated. This was in Northern CA. I am glad I did the building then because everything has gone nuts. I had $12k into concrete and prep (did the foundation work myself) and also did the electrical myself. The building was $22k and erection of the building was about $6500. This is not a normal price as I found a steel building erector who made me a deal for about 50% off and I rented the equipment. I had another $1200 in wire. 5 years later I spent $31k on an asphalt driveway that includes a huge 40x30 apron in front of the barn. I put 8000w of solar on one side of the barn myself for about $9k total grid tied. Producing 45-55kwh per day. Very happy with the investment and unfortunately I outgrew it in a few years. I have cars in the driveway again instead of everything stored in shop. Took me about 3.5 years to payoff the balance on personal bank loan (9%) of $25k. Still worth it.

I think that's a great deal for the price. Before you mentioned the cost, I said to myself, around $60,000. It's looking great. I'm happy for you. Thanks for sharing, Mike. You're a good man.

I think for the size and how great it's built you got alot for your buck and your getting exactly what you wanted. Sounds like a great company to deal with. Well done Mike 👍

That seems like a bargain price for what you have built. I was very surprised and thought it would have been much more. The best part is the short amount of build time, those guys sure know what they’re doing. I recently built an extension on my shop, took me a year to do. I would never take it on by myself again. Much better to pay up and enjoy. Well done, you are on a winner. Thanks.

I bet they love you picking up the job site for them. Can not wait to see how you do the concrete work. It is a great thing to do it right away. I'm learning a lot

I keep thinking this would make a great woodworking building. Drive through loading and unloading, great for those rainy or cold days. A double walk in door, into the main woodshop. An office in the center where you plan on putting one Mike, great for video editing and paperwork. Plus, plenty of windows for great natural lighting. Now you tempt me by telling me who is building this awesome space for you. They are in Ohio, and I am in Michigan. Which means it is totally doable. You got me thinking Mike!!! Have A Day!

Pole barn's direct was one of the company's I looked at when I had my Barndominium built. They are a good company in my opinion. I contacted with Morton building's and am very happy with them. Great looking building, your family will enjoy the addition. God bless.

Nice job Mr. Morgan , where I live your building and the Ford SUV would be closer to 90K . Build a true pole barn for a sawmill back in 1991 measuring 128 X60 and back then was 60 grand . But then a new Ford 1/2 is in the mid 60's . Still nice expansion for the Morgan Enterprises . Be safe

Insulate with closed cell spray foam. I did when I built my shop and I could heat it with some candles, hahaha. Seriously though, here in south Georgia the summers can be brutal. With my three big 10x10 doors open and the outside temperature in the mid 90's to 100, the inside of my shop is about 85. The humidity is still there but a lower temperature. I recently installed a DIY split heat and A/C unit at only 35,000 btu's and it keeps the shop at a very comfortable temp and runs less that my house A/C and my shop is 36x48 with 12ft walls and an open center peak of almost 20 ft. All insulated and drywalled.

I must say one thing. This is a wooden shed, a pole barn. It looks great. I am enjoying watching the build. It is huge, a lot of trusses, expensive sidings etc. It appears good value at the price you have quoted. The one thing I feel I must say is you could have put up a steel construction for the same money. I too love wood, my shed is wood. I built it myself, it is very small in comparison and cost me £2,500 and I already wish I had spent more on the frame. Sidings can be replaced. Roofs can be replaced. The structure can not. Please don't do any dramatic stuff like you did in a previous video to prove that your posts are not rotting. It is only me stating my opinion. I may well be wrong. I hope I am. It is just the way I see it. Great videos, great project. Can't wait to see the next stage. x

Wow! That's a good price for that size building. Very impressed with the quality of construction and of course the speed and organization of this company. Top notch for sure. With your sawmill and forest of trees, you should be able to make most of your interior wall treatment and trim, especially for the game and living space. The shop also, but I would guess that would be drywall. Looking good!
