Part 3 of this build series on my 1993 Harley Sportster. In this video we are setting up the handlebar controls with a new clutch lever, throttle assembly and momentary push buttons with internal wiring. Due to an incident we ended up with new bars all together.

Thanks for this man, I'm building a 93 Sporty and it seems we have very similar ideas, so it's great to see someone doing what I need to see. Thank you.

Gotta say, that is the most organised, well equipped residential garage I personally have ever seen. Wrenching Paradise. Enjoying the Sporty work. This 72 year old geezer sporting a mint all black 90 XL 883.

Organized might be a stretch haha but I like to think I pretty well equipped. Thanks so much for the kind words and thank you for watching!

It would probably be a lot more comfortable if you put some taller risers on it. It would look better too, just my opinion though. Keep up the good work and good videos!

Thanks I appreciate it! Yea, I was considering some taller risers or possibly even pullback ones since I am not that tall. I figured once I get back on the road I'll be able to make a better decision.

Awesome build and commentary. Building my own sportster in a scrambler style. Enjoying watching your stuff. And nice to see a motorcycle video without metal/thrash music for once. lol.

Man, thank you for shining some light on what I could do with my 93 sportster, I’ve really been going nuts with trying to figure out my led turn signals. I’ve been having a rough time with it. Would really appreciate if we could maybe chat over email on it.

Thanks! I am going to save the keystone bars, possibly use them in a future project.

*For those watching: drilled holes can be closed with a weld which can be shaved down to make flushed. It'll be as good as the metal around it and you can re-drill where you need to.* _RU-vid_ (it's a verb now, LOL) "My Mechanics" to see a demonstration of this.
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 5 месяцев назад
Good info! I'm still pretty green at welding, so I didnt feel comfortable going this route. But this can absolutely be done, which is why I saved the bars for another time.

Sick build man, looks daunting with the electrical. I like how the new controls really clean up the bars. Quick question, for those new controls were you required to drill holes in your bars to run the wires or is that just the route you wanted to take? Could you have just ran the wires on the outside like stock if you wanted to? Thanks!
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 2 года назад
Thanks man! These controls require the wires in the handlebar because they are so slim, the backside of the button is almost into the bars when mounted. A lot of the small control setups require that but I am sure there are some out there that don't. Thanks for watching!

Hey dude, thanks for this video, I have two question, could you share with me the link where you bought this switch ? And what happen with the brake light ? From the front brake ?
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! The switches are from purpose built moto, I have a link to them in the description. Good catch on the front brake light, I haven't done anything with it yet. I will probably go with a banjo bolt light switch, but like I said in the video I am still looking for replacement options for the stock lever/master cylinder.

I was looking at bars like that what kind are they and how do you like the riding position?
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage Год назад
This style bar is usually called a drag bar, there is a link to the exact ones I bought in the description. So far the riding position hasn't been an issue, but I don't have a lot of seat time on it yet.
@carterhart5435
@carterhart5435 3 года назад
Why didn't you just weld the holes on the keystone bars and redrill?
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 3 года назад
That's a good idea, unfortunately my welding skills still need a little more work before I have the confidence to take it on. I am working on it though! I am not trashing the bars or anything, just putting them aside for now and maybe saving them for another build down the road. Thanks for watching!

How did you depin the wiring inside your headlight bucket ..???
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 2 года назад
I did not depin the wiring since I am rewiring the whole bike in my next video. If I remember that plug correctly, there is a cylindrical tool you need to depin it. You can buy kits with all the types of depinning tools pretty cheap, might be easiest to go that route. Sorry if I misunderstood your question on my other video

Where did you relocate lights switch? :) I assume you have turn signals, horn and starter on the handlebar.
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 3 года назад
Headlights will be top left button, the m-unit allows me to run a push button switch for the lights which is really nice. On the bars I am running lights, left turn signal, right turn signal and horn. In a previous video I replaced the ignition switch (key) with one that has a momentary start function, so it functions like a car ignition. Hope that helps clear it up, thanks for watching!

Where did you find the clutch perch/lever combo? I’m doing the exact setup but hate the way my clutch lever/mount looks Thank you

Its from a company call 1fnger and I bought it here - www.tcbroschoppers.com/easier-pull-clutch-lever-assembly-2fngr-black-dyna-softail.html They have a matching brake lever too, unfortunately it doesn't fit my year...
