Today we spread a little stone, unload some conduit, and take some basic security measures at the Mini Cabin by installing a camera and lock on the door.

I have a versa lok retaining wall, you do not need a concrete footer for it, but its imperative that you have a few inches of packed crush run. Also if you go above 4 or 5 ft, you'll need to use a geogrid and it'll have to run back probably to your building, so you'll have to dig up your gravel and shell....
@1ruralmailman
@1ruralmailman 3 года назад
mike,for speed in digging the trench have mellisa sit in the driver seat and move the tractor forward for you.i do that to do a long dig with my wife,she sits there reading a book,and when we need to move i lift the outriggers,and she scoots us forward.it saves us a ton o time and effort when gigging a long run.

Good morning Mike, great video ! You have a little more wiggle room using the 12” bucket on the backhoe and you already have the backhoe. Laying the internet conduit in the same trench will work and less chance of interference with having 2 different in separate conduit pipes running in the trench. The Mini Cabin looks great, get it broke in good this winter!! Fill some tags! Thanks for sharing with us enjoy your weekend. Fred.👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Good morning from the Western Ozarks. The electric co-op contractors showed up at 7:00 to finish taking out the trees under the power line. Our view east from the house is getting better as they make progress. We had cleared the rest of the fence row a couple of years ago but had to stop when we got too near the lines. I declared victory on my other fence row clearing project yesterday. 550 yards of fence along the road with no trees, briars, or even weeds. All the posts are present and straight (more or less) and all the wires are tight and wired on. It’s been a lot of work solo but it looks good and I feel good about it. I’ll take things easier today, maybe organize the shop some and mount three sets of antlers from last year. We’ll have 7 to hang - 2 years’ worth. -- It looks like your cabin might get victory declared this weekend (finally!) too. It looks good, and I concur about the burgundy trim. Better now I think. -- We are about to have the second weekend of the Missouri rifle deer season. That’s why my sons are coming out - a weekend of hanging out hunting with dad. I’ll pick them up in KC tomorrow. Should be fun!

Mike you don't need a concrete footing on your retaining wall. just be sure they put enough gravel under the wall to let any water weep away after a rain. That includes enough gravel behind the wall as you go up with it, to allow for drainage. Like that washed rock or that 3" stone you use for base rock. That way it (water) won't freeze and push your wall away from its footing . Proper drainage is the best defense against movement. You can dry stack 6' to 8' high if you want. Just don't let water build up behind it. A friend

Hey mike, when you do your retaining wall ask about GEOGRID. I put up a 45ft long x 22ft long. It was a L shaped wall. 5ft high. 15years after I put it up, the wall started pushing out. I had a landscape company come and look at it, the first thing they asked is if I used geogrid, I said no. I purchased the grid fabric and did the wall myself, 4 years ago, did a footer with 2A and used 2B sandstone behind the wall with fill dirt. The geogrid holds the wall from pushing out. If you use it, you’ll have to dig that road back up that your putting the 2A on now. I would strongly recommend it. If not, you may be doing it again down the road. Ask some local landscape companies about it and google it. I also used perforated pipe at the footer as well, I put it back there the first time I did the wall too, like I said, the wall still pushed out. Something to consider. Take care!
