2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew 4x4 with a one piece driveshaft. Steps:
Park on Level Ground
Apply Parking Brake
Place Transmission in Neutral
Apply wheel chocks to both back tires
Spray Penetrating Oil on 4x 12mm Driveshaft Bolts
Wipe of excess and mark driveshaft & U-joint with Paint pen
Use 12 Point 12mm Wrench to remove 4 bolts
Use a Pry bar if necessary to remove the back of the driveshaft and place on a jackstand
Slide out front of driveshaft, wrap with a towel and place on jack stand
Lubricate and reinstall ensuring to match up paint marks on back of driveshaft
Tools needed:
12 point 12mm combo wrench
Pry bar (only if the driveshaft won't budge after unbolting)
Wheel chocks
Paint pen/white out
Motorcraft PTFE Lubricant
Towel to wrap the machined end of driveshaft to prevent damage.
Jack stands to hold the driveshaft
Difficulty: Easy (Novice)
Fixed a clunking thud noise after accelerating from a stop. Always Wear Eye, Hand and Ear Protection when necessary. If you are unsure of your mechanical ability, always consult an ASE certified Mechanic. For educational purposes only, perform at your own risk.
