You know, it's so easy to see a vehicle like that and have it tossed in the junk yard. Mad props for giving this truck a second chance. Mad respect. Mine is a 97 4.2L V6 extended cab flareside. I'd like to somewhat slam it and tune it up. I haven't looked to see if this engine has the capability to get tuned pretty good.
G34RH34D I feel you man call me crazy but to me its sad to see vehicles thrown away after almost a life of hard work after so many memories just because you don’t want to invest a title time and effort. I am currently getting it ready for paint this truck is sold and pretty sure new owner will be more than happy to have this on his arsenal.. I am not a fancy youtuber i am just trying show what i love check out part 1 of getting ready for paint 97 f150 4wd 5.4 DOCH getting ready for paint part 1 Thanks for your comment made my day
And hey man anything is possible the sky is the limit I personally haven’t work on a 4.2 performance wise but pretty sure there are options out there or you can always upsize 😉 good luck with your project I would like to see it someday
Toss the 4.2 and ls swap that thing and I wont talk shit about the 4.2 because I also have a 97 with over 300k mile on it but performance wise there is nothing that can be done to the thing with $1000 to double the power. Buy a working tahoe for $1500 and do the swap yourself.
Great vision and awesome job! These Fords are the best! I have a 2001 Flareside 4x4. It’s family to me. You chose the right truck. I hope you become a millionaire someday. You are talented.
Thank you very much i love what i do and always trying my best and always pushing myself i wish i can post everything i do but i get so carried away that forget to video taped it lol 😂
Thanks man actually is already done I finished it painted red soon ill be posting the video from start to finish ill like to see what you do to your truck and honored to know this video inspired you to build your truck up
Desert Rat Racer thanks man a few more things in my bucket list like paint, gears, custom upholstery and hopefully a supercharger lol i am thinking on that last one probably after everything else 😉
JEMTZ I love what you’ve done,. I have a 2001 F150 with a lift as well but only 33s. what gear ratio did you end up going with? I think those are 35s? Maybe larger tires? Awesome work, it totally inspired me to keep working on mine..
So... I acquired a 2002 Lincoln Blackwood 5.4 4V engine with ~10K miles on it (It was a Ford test engine, and has been in indoor storage for the last twenty years). I tore the 4V engine down completely to see for myself, found it to be immaculate and rebuilt it. It is now ready to be installed into my 2000 5.4/4R100 AWD/4WD Expedition, and am wondering about the PCM issue: I've read conflicting information about using my stock Expedition PCM - needing a tune versus not. (Incidentally, I did use the the 4V harness, but don't have the PCM.) Thanks for your video, loved the fabrication details, and appreciate any help, -Rob
Cool truck I bet you would love to see mine I need to make a video on it. It’s a 2000 f150 flat bed 5.4 dohc swap fresh paint job expedition bucket seats with middle consel a straight axle up front 1 ton axles front in rear 4.56 gears on 37s and my flat bed is built to fit my sxs on top sxs is also matching my truck all built by me and brother
Really nice truck man I like the body type I do have 1its 1997 normal and 1 2000 4x4. You great job on dash tablet I wanted to doit on 2000 one but I don’t know how use fiberglass
alfredo lomeli hey man I would say if you want to do it just go for it get yourself a extra bezel from a junkyard and some fiberglass from your local autoparts and try it just make sure to protect your tablet really good lol worst that can happen is you dont like it but you can always go back and fix it... you gonna be an expert before you know it good luck and hope this video gives you an idea more or less for your project thanks for the comment
Hey what up man.. Thanks 🙏 love that truck... currently working on a last video as its been finished... i am honored to know someone out there likes what i do... i can definitely do something for you the thing is that I would need the tablet to work around it and fabricate the bezel i am in San Antonio if you are willing to do that i ll more than welcome and up for the challenge... Thanks for the comment have a great day
I know it’s been a long time since this uploaded, but did u have any problem fitting those headlight? I bought some months ago and they fit like absolute crap and idk how to make them fit
Love the build man! Great work! I have a 99’ 4.6 V8 F-150 gonna be starting the build soon. Definitely an inspiration. Can you send me the link for the tow mirrors?
Had 3:55 8.8... and thanks I like watching it too reminds me of the things i can do and keeps me going thank you for your comment and good luck with your project
Thanks man i am flattered and very happy with the outcome i am working on the last video when its already painted and as far as the motor i did a 5.4 4v swap that came off of an 03 navy oh man it’s crazy powerful
Hey there loved your project bro ando beeing curious i want yo swap My 97 f150 ando have a doubt on it did You use the sale wiring harness from your truck or do You have to get the Lincoln harness to make it work
Hey awesome truck, i’m running a 6 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift as well and I’m on 35 but it seems like your front end wheel base is way wider I was wondering if that was with the kit that you bought or what just curious because my wheels are on an offset right now and they still are not as wide as that and I really want to do something like that to my truck
Hey man thanks for the compliment and yeah i installed a 6 inch Zone lift and a 2 inch wheel adapter to my 20 by 12s offset wheels and gave ti that look... to me looks awesome on 37s by 13.5 tires .... i think the off set plus 2 inch adapter along with wider tires made a huge difference... I would like to see your ride before and after you do it.... thanks again and good luck with your project
Thanks!!! I did the whole thing in two years little by little and yeah i liked the look the sport bed gave it thats why i choose that bed over the flair side
Axel Macías i am running the 97 4.6 pcm all i did is reroute some of the connectors on the harness to be able to reach some of the sensors, fabricated a bracket to hold the both of the coil packs from the 97 4.6 under need the intake manifold as you can see in the video and routed spark plug wires through the back of the engine used fuel injectors and mass air flow sensor as a set from the 4.6 and i need to put an extra temp sensor on the lower intake manifold as the 97 has 3 different temp sensor (coolant temp sensor, temperature switch, and cylinder head temp sensor) and the 03 5.4 4 valve has COP and only 2 temp sensor ( coolant temp sensor and cylinder head temp sensor) afterwards had to take it to the muffler shop because the pipes didn’t match the exhaust manifold’s angle.... hope this helps and good luck with your build i would like to see how it came out thanks again for your comment
JEMTZ appreciated very much. I have a 2000 navigator which I’m giving back to my dad as it was his to begin with, it’s not molested besides exhaust, and I’m restoring the interior for him, and upgraded to climate controlled seats when I give him the keys. Currently I’m searching for a f150 ‘97-‘03(preferably 90s model Bc of the blue/greenish interior lighting and dash. Just looks more old school.) and I’m planing on making that my daily driving work truck, just curious as to what to do when the old 5.4 gives out and I have to replace the engine. I’ve always thought about this swap and I believe you’re the first I’ve seen on RU-vid to do it. On my navigator I had planned to install a f150 Lightning/Harley Davidson supercharger just for the heck of it. Might add that to the list on the 5.4 4v swap if it happens.
What size tires do u have. And I’m looking to put a zone 6” lift on my 2003 f-150 and was just wondering if you got any rake on the truck from the add a leaf. I keep hearing mixed things.
MikeHillman i had to reroute some connectors from the original harness and still running the 4.6 pcm need to get it tuned but it runs very good i can only imagine how will it run when its tuned
Did you have any fitment problems with the 5.4 dohc... im thinking about dropping one in a 2004 f350 super duty with a 5.4 2v. Im thinking if you got one to drop in an f150 I should definitely be able to get one in a superduty
For sure the f350 has a more spacious engine bay i don’t think there should be any problems all i can think of is rerouting some of the connectors and enlarged the cylinder heat temp sensor connector bit other than that shoul be pulg and play ..... 04 5.4 2v has COPs and the 4v DOHC has COP too so your PCM shoul be fine you can custom tune your pcm afterwards to really take advantage of your new motor..... good luck with your project
@@jesusmtz413 i appreciate that... my only real concern was the ac/heater box on the firewall... was thinking of adding some good cams for torque and pulling in the mid range... in your opinion can the 5.4 be bored out say .040 ? I definitely want alot of torque. The engine made 300hp stock... if I can get 400 that would be good but definitely want more torque
I have a 97 f150 xlt with the 4.6L in it. I've got 202k miles right now and want to do a very similar build. Is it ok if I copy some things you did from your design? What engine would you suggest looking for? I need something with serious power. I'm doing a 6 inch suspension lift and 3 inch body lift as well so an engine swap will be easier
Sure man not a big deal I got my motor from a 2003 navigator 5.4 32 valve and if you doing the body lift that will give you enough room for the motor and hey feel free to do what I did to mine if you got any questions I’ll be honored to assist you with your build... good luck!!
Te be honest i don’t think your pec will work because the newer 3v has variable timing solenoids that are controlled by the pcm and if you install one with out will turn the pcm crazy wont know what to do my suggestion will be instead of swaping it for a 4v invest on a turbo or even a pro charger that will give you more horse power and torque than the 4v along with a nice tune hope this helps and good luck
I have a zone 3 inche body lift www.ebay.com/itm/171470629522 As well as a a zone 6 inche suspension lift www.ebay.com/itm/261862401371 20x12 offset wheels and 37x13.5 amp mud tires I also put 1.5 inch wheel adapters because i bought wheels that will fit my 2013 ram but ended up using them on my ford so another 1.5 inches gave it that look i was looking for RockTrix - 1.5 inch Wheel Adapters Spacers Converts 5x135 to 5x5.5 (Changes Bolt Pattern) 14x2 Studs - Compatible with Select Ford Expedition F150 Lincoln Navigator Blackwood - 5x135 to 5x139.7, 4pcs www.amazon.com/dp/B00NYKI6IG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_ImX6FbBV66RJV Fell free to comment if you have any questions
Yes you will need to stretch the harness on some plugs you also will need to custom tune your pcm but it will work just fine with out a tune that is if you really want to taje advantage of what the motor is capable of thats pretty much it yours has the coil on plug as the 5.4 DOHC so it makes it easier. Good luck 👍🏼 let me know how it went
Dude this was alot of help Iv wanted this motor in my 2000 expedition for some time now and iv been asking about plug and play and I finally found my answer thanks. Oh and nice ford I like that custom screen
byron turner thanks man hope this helps and good luck with your build I’ll be posting another video about mods for the lower intake sometime soon and yeah that screen catches people’s attention lol thanks for the comment
Abraham Rodriguez www.ebay.com/itm/253608133956 ese es de tres pulgadas para una 2wd no esta tan caro y esta facil de instalar suerte con tu proyecto carnal
Michael Evans first of all i used a product called superclean degreaser www.google.com/search?client=safari&channel=iphone_bm&sxsrf=ALeKk029EC4mStkyCemwCWLuUDcfR7bojw%3A1590765354179&source=hp&ei=KifRXpLjBpHaswXMkp3wAg&q=superclean+degreaser&oq=superclean&gs_lcp=ChFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocBABGAEyAggAMgIIADICCAAyAggAMgIIADICCAAyAggAMgIIADoHCCMQ6gIQJzoECCMQJzoFCAAQgwE6AgguOgUILhCDAToECAAQClDOC1ioG2DXI2gCcAB4AIABdIgByQeSAQM3LjOYAQCgAQGwAQ8&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp to clean all grease oil etc from frame while power washed all dirt oil etc then scuff it lightly then apply undercoat www.google.com/shopping/product/2966047579909828625?q=dupli+color+undercoating&client=safari&channel=iphone_bm&biw=375&bih=635&tbs=vw:l,ss:44&sxsrf=ALeKk00aeWeJIiYjI4mdYUVVXjlfi3o08w:1590765606420&prds=of:1,epd:11455681480352021720,local:1,prmr:2,cs:1 note tape everything you don’t want to coat or get overspray on hope this helps it came out looking really good.. good luck!!
Mine its a 97 so it was different but since yours is a 2003 it will be alot easier you might have to rearrange some connetors to be able to reach like intake runner and cylinder head temp sensor that i can remember now let me know how it cones out good luck!!
On your truck use the 5.4 Dohc harness it’s plugin play you only have 2 swaps out 2 connecters the temp being one. But don’t drive it like that cause it will run funny go get it tune so it can run 100 percent
What did you pull this engine from and can you do this again for me?! I'm not even joking man...this is insane. I have a 97 I want to engine swap and lift a little bit higher. Already got the body lift on it.
Te be honest i never sold one and i would need the ipad to be able to make it i am in San Antonio tx i will be honored if i get to do one idk how much do you think is fair
Not this kit beacause yours have springs in the front and 4wd comes with torsion bars ill check once i get home from riding tonight is a beautiful night to ride 😈
There isn’t really many options as far as lift kits for 2wd but i found this it might help to give you the look you looking for www.ebay.com/itm/162832720894
MODULAR PERFORMANCE RACING not really. Other than rerouting some of the connectors on the harness to being able to reach on the new motor every thing else is plug and play pretty much
Im from laredo man I have a 99 f150 v6 and planing to do a mark viii 4.6 4v swap do you know what I need to do to make it work ? I would really appreciate any help
Thanks I had installed a 3 inch body lift before i did the 5.4 4v swap and it made it alot easier with the extra room i used my 4.6 injectors and mass air flow sensor and had to rerouted some connectors in the harness so the reach the taller intake from the 2003 navigator. The 97 4.6 came withe three different temp sensors ( temperature sensor, coolant temperature sensor, and cylinder head temp sensor) i am currently just plugged the temp sensor for the gauge but i need to modify the lower intake to be able to install coolant sensor drill it and tap it and also make a harness connector for cylinder head temp sensor larger to reach the back of the head on passenger side thats where is located on the 4v also change gears on my differentials to accommodate the 37 inch tires. Hope this info make sence.
Forgot to mention 97s came with 2 coil packs and 2003s with coil on plug so i fabricated a brakets to install the coil packs under the intake manifold and ran the spark plug wires through the back to keep it a little cleaner
miclo bellman I currently using factory 8.8 355s but am planning on doing 411s front and back to compensate the big tires farthest i took her is from san antonio TX to Lubbock TX no problem
Edgar miguel Cazares ríos yes i used the same wire harness that came with the 4.6 since i was still going to use the original computer all the connectors are the same all i had to do is dismantle the harness and reroute some of the connections for the to reach
The 97 4.6 came out with dual coil packs and the 2003 5.4 DOHC has coil on plug so i made some brackets to hold the coils underneath the intake manifold inside the engine bay and ran the spark plug wires through the back and into the valve cover where the harnes for the coil on plug should enter there are pictures in the video showing it
Jajaja they are not silverado mirrors they are tow mirrors they extend out even more so you can see if you caring a wide load chevy parts wont fit on a ford thanks for watching
alolipa well some people are into sound systems like myself and don’t mind spending a few dollars to be happy others not so much but again everyone has their own opinions aslong as i am happy thats what matter thanks for your commet have a great day
