Good video but you do not have to remove the steering wheel to remove the switch. The screw behind the wheel can be easily removed using a T25 bit with a 1/4 inch mini wrench to turn it.

I used a GO-THRU SOCKET 1/4" ratcheting wrench with a short T25 bit.

Change over 50 of these in the dealership, never pulled the steering wheel once. Turn the top of the wheel to 9 o'clock position and you can sneak past the edge of the wheel with a t25 screwdriver, NOT a socket. Works every time. If you have automatic transmission there is also a 2 wire connector that plugs into the shift interlock further down the top right side of the steering column.

Mad Dog is correct. Used a T25 torx screwdriver, turned the wheel to the 9 o'clock position, and had no issue getting the bottom bolt out. No need to remove the wheel.

Same here. I figured it out on my own back before RU-vid was a thing. The Chilton book said take the steering wheel off. That didn't make any sense. I was also scared the air bag would explode too lol.

Great video. I watched several before I saw yours. You are the only one to really show how to deal with the wire block properly. I figured out the trick. You do not need to pull the steering wheel. If you take a cheap t-25 security torx bit and tape it into a 1/4" wrench. Turn the wheel so the top of wheel is at about 10 or 2. You may have to persuade the wheel trim cover to get the driver in. Oh make sure you remove the black tube that is the screw holding the top cowl cover. Mine unthreaded from the top cowl but was still in the way. Hold the tube in place while you remove the e5 fastener in front of the annoying t25. My other thought was to take a t25 screwdriver and bend the last 3\4" at a 90 degree angle. Hope that helps and thanks for your help.

Great video my brake lights don't work. Third brake light works , signals, running lights , reverse lights all work. The Hazzard lights do not. I changed bulbs, tailight control boards, checked trailer 4 prong same thing. Changed brake light switch. Still no dice. Checked fuses It's a 95 Gmc K1500 suburban I think the only thing left is the multi function switch. Also I could not find the brake relay. The guy at Napa saids it doesn't have one. Please help 2 days still not fixed. Thanks Sunny

No need to take steering wheel off. Just turn the wheel to where the top part of horn button is to the left.. take screws out and voila... They're off

i need to see how you got that upper cover off! i'm working on a '96 sierra w/o adjustable steering column, and it's a bit different. don't know if that has anything to do with it, but i'll be ... if i can find a way to get that top cover off.

It's a major pain in the ASS! I think the engineers at GM get together every time they change a body style and have a bidding war to see who gets to design the biggest pain in the ass to repair in the new vehicle. The winner gets to do something inside of the vehicle, the first runner up gets under the hood Electrical, the second runner up gets under the hood mechanically. Like in these trucks the friggin mounting bolts for the engine mount pads have the retaining nuts inside the damn frame, what A-Hole puts loose nuts inside the frame? Ever hear of welding? Yes, I had one broken and had to pull the damn engine out to get to the access hole in the top of the frame! I hope I never meet a GM engineer in a bar, Q-Stick to the back of the head!
