@ibold1000 I'm starting to feel for Andre and being trapped in that cab with Mr. Truck It seems like he's starting to be sliding down the scale of mental decline. He's beginning to seem like that one uncle who keeps his flask hiding in the tool box of his truck which he visits 3 times per hour. This video makes me wish that I had written down the numbers that Gale Banks came up with when they did a Dyno session with their 2024 Duramax to determine the power that's making it to the ground. Time for me to go see if I left my wallet in my Toolbox.

The exhaust brake on the GM/Chevy trucks are designed to work while on cruise control. So if you are testing brake application pedal presses using the exhaust brake without being on cruise control then you are using the truck as it was not intended, which makes your test invalid, for brake applications at least.

Great video, but I do this Mr. Truck needs to brush up on what dynamic cruise control is? Would have loved to see cruise control set to see how exhaust brake worked. That's great that only one brake application was needed. I didn't understand the comment that this engine is designed (or OK) to high rev during engine braking. That's what I noticed that sometimes the revs get very high.

I have to raise a question about the total trailering capacity. If the sticker on the door jam has a number on it along with the VIN number, it is gospel and it is what a DOT officer will go by. If you were to be pulled over by the DOT and inspected, the tag on the door jam is where they will go and can't be disputed as well as the tag on your trailer. The weigh system on the truck is another story, it would be nice to see how the system works. Is it simply based on how much the rear suspension is compressed? The owners manual is written to cover a mass printing and is general information. If the door jam sticker was incorrect a recall would have to be conducted and the sticker would have to be changed to reflect a difference. DOT laws are interesting to say the least. Last year before I retired I was transporting food in a 2019 chevrolet 3500 DRW Duramax truck with a 13,200 GVWR and towing a 28" enclosed Haulmark gooseneck trailer with a 14,000 lb GVWR . I got pulled over for a random inspection by a Montana DOT officer who said he was going to check my rig for weight. I gave him my driver's license and registration for the truck (State of Wyoming vehicle) and he was gone for a long time figuring out what to do with me. He finally came back and told me he wouldn't be weighing me, but that I was outside of my driver''s license since I was over 26,001 combined total GVWR based on the decal on the truck plus the decal on the trailer and that even though I worked for the State of Wyoming I was considered to be a commercial carrier. He advised me that I needed a CDL to haul this load. He was very polite and didn't issue me a citiation. I then asked him what would happen if I would have been towing an RV fifth wheel with about the same GVWR. His answer shocked me, he told me that they could care less about RV's and weight and that they don't give them a second thought in Montana. To further complicate things, several years ago Wyoming changed it laws to allow towing a maximum gross combined vehicle weight of 39,000 lbs on a class C license! Go figure! I debated getting a CDL license for work, but then thought of an easier work around. I repurposed a 2018 Chevrolet 3500 single rear wheel Duramax to haul the trailer and since the GVWR of that truck was 11,600, with a 14k trailer it kept me a 25,600 gcwr so I was legal with a class C license. Again the door stickers are everything. I also went as far as contacting Haulmark and asked them about changing the sticker on my trailer from 14k to 12,500 and I was told that if I would have asked for that when the trailer was built, they could have done that, but they wouldn't change the sticker on a trailer that was already in service even though the number would be lower.

I know you do a follow up test for fuel economy, but my truck, and many trucks you've tested are very optimistic with computer based fuel mileage, especially when towing. I'm very skeptical that the 6.8mpg listed is accurate for this test.

That’s the big problem with GM now is they don’t compete like they did from 2001 and back. The government got their grubby hands on them and took that away from them. They use to really care about their Camaro and the competition between it and the Mustang. From 92 until 2002 they held the title. I was a huge GM fan at one time and then they got rid of the TransAm and really quit putting a serious effort into the Camaro.

The Chevy/GMC exhaust brake system works off of cruise control. If you set the cruise control and enable exhaust brake, it will keep you at your cruise control speed. Without cruise control, enabling exhaust brake will downshift earlier that it would otherwise, but it won't keep you at a particular speed. As an example, there's a steep hill near me that I can gain significant speed coasting down. I will gain speed down it even if I have exhaust brake turned on. But if I turn on cruise control (even if I'm already doing 10+ over), it will slow me to the cruise control speed and keep me there.

Hey guys I'm looking to buy a new 2024 3/4 ton and this testing in your review totally made my mind up that I'm going to buy the new Chevy 3/4 ton You're the only channel that does real world testing again thank you so much

I run a large business. In my mind 3/4Ts are only worth buying if you’re getting a V8 because diesels are so heavy that otherwise the payload is really disappointing. Thats just my opinion but every hd diesel in my fleet is a 3, 4 or 5 class Also, I have nothing against gmc/chevy in any way but you should look at ford in particular. We’ve tried everything over and over and fords stand out with the most uptime and selfishly I really love their seats

@@mattbrew11 agree. The only downside, if someone gets a Ford diesel, you will have spend money right away to make modifications to your fuel pump system to avoid any fuel pump failures.

I would 110% buy one of these if 3.73 was standard in the 2500’s and 3500’s and 4.10 as an option in the drw’s. Having less power than the other two PLUS being at a mechanical disadvantage is a no go for me. If I’m gonna spend that kind of money, I want the baddest mofo on the road….. just sayin’

I have a 22 hd2500. I have learned if you position your load where it squats the truck 2-2.5” it pulls a lot easier gets better fuel economy about 2 mpg’s at 12,000lbs. I understand it’s not always possible but it’s worth the extra effort if it’s possible. It definitely pulls better than the Ram 2500 without hesitation. I really like the Ram and it doesn’t struggle I am in no way bashing the Ram. I wouldn’t trade my Custom for a tradesman because I enjoy the smooth and quiet ride for day to day driving.

Good to see Mr Truck and Mr Tow (aka the future Mr. Truck) back on the IKE! 87K? Sorry, but no.... Only way to deal with manufacturers charging this much is buy work trucks not luxury bloatware, but to each their own. Drive a luxury car and own a work truck.

And it’s not about how fast you can pull a load up a hill, it’s about getting the job done. Win I pull my big trailers and I max out at 30,000 pounds will be as much as I will pull it’s about talking it slow and easy. Even if I had a 2023 truck I still would do the same thing. I have over 2 million miles under my belt and I also do heavy haul and I do the same in a semi truck pulling 250,000 pounds. More power is going to get people hurt or killed. And adaptive cruise control should never be used or be allowed to be used when pulling a heavy trailer.

With the short bed you are going to get a lot more squat than a long bed, with the Gooseneck or 5th wheel. GM moved the hitch center behind the rear axle on the short bed. Although not as much, it's like a bumper pull hitch, it will take weight off the front axle. I have a 2022 High Country 3500 HD SRW LB, and the Puck system hitch point is still centered on the rear axle. Moving the hitch center 5 inches doesn't sound like a lot, but it is moving the wrong way. I don't understand why people are scared of the LB trucks, and if you buy a Dually from GM it will be a LB truck.

YOU ARE FRUSTERATING...you need to read the manual. Like prior Chevy/GMC you do the downhill not following the manual and you gave s prior model a bad rating. Follow the instructions for tow/haul and exhaust brake with the cruise and it would have performed perfectly.

@@TFLtruck It did indeed even though it was not set up optimally. Other older videos like this one you still did not set up the truck correctly to manage downhill speed. So it was frustrating to listen to you nit-pick over the downhill performance [engine braking] when you have not set up the truck correctly with the tow/haul mode on, engine brake engaged and the cruise speed control set to 5 mph under your desired max speed. I used to run one of these at 26K down the steepest of grades and never touch the brakes with it set up correctly. When you just have the Engine Brake and Tow/Haul more ON that does not happen AND its never advertised to happen or even operate in that manner.

Hey Tfl I got a question for you. Does your gooseneck buck back and forth when taking off and stopping. I got a 23 high country 2500 with the Duramax and a 07 ram 2500 Cummins 6.7 but the Cummins pulling my gooseneck doesn’t buck at all and my new Duramax the ball moves back and forth causing my trailer to buck. Does the 24 high country do the same? Thank you.

That truck is designed for squat, that is why the rear sits up higher than then the front. I would have found a level piece of ground and put a level on it to see if it is going up hill from rear to front. The fact the truck almost ran a perfect time is pretty impressive in my opinion. My 21 High Country was a towing beast, I actually preferred towing with that truck over my Ford. I wish Chevrolet had a little better padding in the seats, I am really interested in the new GMC AT4X HD.

I'm not defending the Chevy by any means but your squat measurement isn't worth squat! There's so much more to to it than just how much it squats. Yes, squat is a measurable parameter, but you could weld the axle solidly to the frame and you would have 0 squat but that wouldn't make It tow any better! As seen with trucks with airbags that self level, maybe there's no squat but that doesn't mean it's handling the load better.

I still think the Ike gauntlet test everyone wants to see is a mid to late 90s 3 way shootout between a 7.3L ford, 5.9L dodge, and a 6.5L chevy. This new chevy is way out of everyone’s price range. Plus too many doo-dads and stuff people don’t need. Trucks need to go back to simple machines.

I have a 23 3500 duramax SRW. I did a 4000 mile trip with a 14,000 5th wheel, and never touched the brakes on a downhill in the entire trip. The cruise control works great with the exhaust brake. It also works well putting the gear selector in L, and using the + and - switch on the shifter stalk to manually select gears, which also works awesome.
