I started long bicycle rides a few years ago. Nothing like the freeedom of strapping a tent to my handlebars and thoughtfully packing essential gear to sustain me. At this point I carry enough tools to do 95% of possible repairs, cook almost all my own food and no longer require motels. Once in a while a paid site for a hot shower and to get stuff dried out. Going south from Upstate New York, the possible dispersed camping dwindles drastically after Pennsylvania if going down the coast. Much better if further inland! Seems like every square inch is accounted for in some places. When I do hopefully find a good spot, I am always respectful and leave no trace, always in near dark out by dawn. Sometimes I get somewhere and it just feels not quite right so I try again, somewhere else. The past couple of years I got good at doing these things in the winter and got better about diet. Its tempting to go straight for carbohydrates but I'm much more capable with extra meals and with extra protein and fats. Made my own pyramid tent from a large tarp and with bug netting for an alternate door and skirt. That thing is the best I can figure for all the possible weather and places. Pops up with a hiking pole, very lightweight. Could carry everything in a packpack if needed, baseweight 12 lbs, all seasons. Been messing with motorized bicycles and just rode an Avenger 85 up into the local moutains for a 40 mile ride with a camp. Fun time! Be fun to move on to the dual sport bikes but I also think bicycle is excellent for not needeing gas, insurance, having a low price for repair. Bicycle provides access to most places, 40-100 miles at a time. Stealth camping, using good principles allows someone like me who was born low income class, to see more of the world and grow as a person.

You are a trip man. I think I like the parts of the video where you focus on things like the train coupling and bridge views. Yeah, mechanical minded guys look at that stuff and just appreciate the history that has gone into making all this stuff work. Great video, Chris.

Man this was such a great video, this definitely gives me more confidence to finally buy myself a phatmoto and swap the motor with a 79cc predator engine. Add a front wheel electric hub and take a round trip of 800 miles to plano, texas. Ive done a round trip of 35 miles on my 2 stroke 66cc bike. Cant wait to go camping with my new hybrid build. Stay safe and keep doing what you love brother.

I bought a 2 stroke motor that was a pain in the ass and I could never get it started. I’m currently saving up for a 4 stroke motorized bike kit. The fact this can travel so long without any issues definitely convinced me it can be a form of reliable transportation.
@Nobody04200
@Nobody04200 2 месяца назад
Which kit did you get? I'm telling you now other than cold starts 2 strokes are better. They have more aftermarket upgrades. It's easier to fix. Sound way cooler and go way faster upgraded. You'd have to get an illegal 4 stroke like a 212cc stock to keep up with a 80cc upgraded 2 stroke motorized bicycle. The 80cc 4 strokes have little to no upgrades at all. With upgrades you can do 75 mph+ on a 2 stroke 80cc.

Not to mention all the quads and dirt bikes riding in the streets. I'm sure the cops realize their time is better to chill and wait for a real crime like jaywalking.

That…was…awesome! Crazy seeing those 4 wheelers ripping down the street popping wheelies! Looks like you shot up 1&9 for a little bit, went over the Bayonne Bridge and GW. That takes some serious guts for anyone not familiar with the area. I’ve got friends up north that would ride down the side of a mountain but would definitely chicken out on a trip like that. Keep the videos coming!

@@NNKH2 Debating where I should but the 4-stroke…Mongoose Hilltopper mtn bike with front suspension or Huffy Cranbrook cruiser. Any suggestions? Might do pine barrens so I’m thinking the mountain bike but looks simple to install on the cruiser.

hi from Mexico. A few questions; why did you decide to opt for a traditional gas powered engine? Was it for range? the fact you wouldn't have to charge it as with batteries? Or the low price of $200 for the kit? If it were battery powered you wouldn't have the issue of it being a "motorized vehicle" and having to hide it in certain places, as of course motorized vehicles aren't allowed on public transport etc. This was a great trip! It's something i'd also do! 😀 We make vids on a variety of topics

You live close to some really cool areas with great visuals, here in Yakima Valley Washington its pretty stale. Just lots of farm land, dirt, grass, the occasional trees, and a handful of hills. There's a lot of suburbs too but not many good paths to ride on. Anyways, the video was really good and is something I definitely need to try

@NNKH2

Yes it adds quite a bit of weight but not unreasonable to pick up. I think the two-stroke kits are lighter
@rightleft7050
@rightleft7050 9 месяцев назад
I think your right!.2 stroke probably be the best bet. Ill try to mod engine too. might even build a frame make it look like a early Harley or Indian and push the engine to it's limits. if i blow it.i can always buy a new kit.they're pretty cheap
@wheelruts
@wheelruts 2 года назад
I also have a Hardrock frame, thinking of getting 4 stroke kit for but no gumption/time for constant chain headaches. Please comment on how the stock tensioner has worked out for you long term and particularly if you have found any ready made better replacement. Can the stock tensioner be made safe and do you replace pulleys often? Many thanks, very inspirational videos
@NNKH2
@NNKH2 2 года назад
The stock chain and system could certainly use Improvement. But mine has held off. I haven't used it much since doing the ride to Manhattan. However it's a very nice tool to have around especially with today's high gas prices. Might even have to go take her for a rip today
