Pretty impressive amount of pads left. Regenerative braking saves a lot of wear on pads. Great job Mike! 👍

Just pulled my front pads off my 2015 Volt 170,000 mi on them. They are still about 80% of life left; 80% of thickness left. I had to pull out the new pads and put them next to each other to even see a difference absolutely amazing I only did it because I got rocks in there that scored the rotors and I had a pin that froze up cocked the pads but I could leave the pads, probably for $500,000 miles from the looks of it. I break hard at times, I'm kind of a sport driver and fast driver who brake late and clip apexes, still pads look new @ 170K.

I got you beat Mike my Dad's car ( he passed away) in 2016 he had 120000 miles on a 1995 Honda civic. Never changed front brake pads. What a job it was.....

Well these still would have went longer but didn't want to chance it.

Just curios how much pad was left on them? I would guess not as much as these had left on them.

The pads just don't get hot so they stay damp and fall apart. I just replaced the original front ones on a 2012 with 204K and 3 of 4 pads FELL TO PIECES. I make it a point to use the brakes somewhat at the exit ramps sometimes to keep them awake.

I've run into many rusty backing plates, with half or fully de-bonded pads which vanished, it happens on gas/diesel engine "rear disc brakes" very often. I've seen factory pads come apart within 4 years from brand new vehicle, regardless of mileage! they wasn't dragging, stuck, everything moved freely and the vehicle was washed weekly and more often in winter. it wasn't any specific brand, make of vehicle or pad manufacturer either.

Had a 1996 Lexus LS400 and had original brake pads on it and I bought new and didn’t look at old pads. 142,700 miles. They were incredible. Still had 70% left on the front and easily 85% rear. I owned the car since 30K. I measured with a caliper against new OEM pads. I changed them anyway because I already bought them. Never forget how good they were. Another amazing thing about this car was the weight and how these pads didn’t show that fact. Current car 2011 Camry changed at 77K and these had 50% left. Quality parts equals long life.

I have a 2013 Volt, and just had the exact same problem with my rear brakes at 98000 miles. The left side pads just fell off the backing plate. I figured since the rear pads did it, I might as well replace the fronts before they fell off...great minds think alike! Thanks for the great video!

Typically, the rear brakes are what go bad (if any do) on a Volt, due to lack of use. I remember years ago, before electric vehicles, my father-in-law had bonded brake shoes that came apart. I have seen this before, and it’s a big reason why I prefer riveted brake shoes / pads.

My 2011 has 90k miles and have the stock pads no issues yet.

I still have my original pads at 190k. I just took them apart to clean everything and regrease the slides, I should have just replaced the pads too I guess, but ill do it next time I'm in there (which will probably be another axle replacement)

My 2013 volt is at the dealer right now for new brakes. 92k miles and finally squeaking. Unfortunately 360 for the rear and 330 for the front. Ouch! That includes labor and turning of rotors.

you should’ve done the rotors at the same time. Without amount of mileage, there’s guaranteed to be warpage, or some sort of mismatch which will make the new pads work quicker.

Had them turn mine. New rotors seemed overkill though

They don’t get used very much, compared to a normal gasoline / diesel car. 40,000 miles on a car like the Volt, is nothing like 40,000 miles on a conventional car.

2014 Prius. 92,000 miles . Something finally broke. Light bulb! Don’t get me started on what has broken on my 2008 lacrosse.

Wow I hear the electric cabs get 200k on brake pads . Electric vehicles are no maintenance and no maintenance means no work in the auto repair business I guess.

You could make them last even longer if you applied that grease to those shiny areas on the rotors to reduce the friction..... 98 k in the rust belt would probably mean 250K if they never saw salt and rot. Now if they could only get the rest of the body to stop rotting.
