I was partly being lazy and partly curious and decided to try installing Keyless entry without removing the seat or any panels by using the existing RS3000 wiring. This is my son's new 4runner and we did not get any key fobs with it. We ordered one for the RS3000 and it didn't work. I think the RS3000 may be toast, but I don't want to remove it yet as I may still try to get it working.
I found a few RS3000 manuals online, but no pinouts for the 4runner. I did find a couple other cars, but they seem different than what I found when testing. Sorry the video is long, but wanted to show how I tested which wires I was going to use. Diagram I made is at the end. No guarantees its correct for your car.
This is our 2nd 3rd Gen 4runner in the family now. This one needs a little work on the paint, but mechanically seems really sound.
I am not a professional mechanic. So this is for entertainment purposes only. I am not responsible for any damages if you try this and break or damage anything or injure yourself. Just trying to share information as I appreciate all the other great 3rd Gen videos out there that have helped me.

I have a full pinout after extensively testing an RS3000 unit I purchased off of eBay from a 98 4Runner. It's on ToyotaNation as well as my RU-vid channel.

Thanks for the video, this was very helpful. Would you be willing to list the supplies needed to complete this upgrade? Thank you in advance.

I took it one step further and have made a full pinout of the RS3000. It's on the ToyotaNation forums as well as my RU-vid channel.

I installed this exact universal system in my 98 4Runner that does not have the factory RS3000. After I buttoned everything back up I realized I could now only lock and unlock from the fob (not from the door switches). So thinking it has something to do with the splicing into the lock/unlock trigger wires under the dash or maybe it being a $16 part? Was going to order another and see if maybe I just had a faulty unit. Additionally, the receiver box beeps on lock/unlock, but only when a door is open. If the doors are closed, not beeping. I actually prefer not hearing anything from that box, but wondered if yours makes any beeping noises?
