Your listing under PLANS, 'greatest free gift I have ever received' is absolutely the most clever and rewarding thing I've ever gotten. You sir, are now one of my heroes. A fan forever! Thank you.
@@731Woodworksyou being color blind could be why your eyes look so freaky sky blue in your thumb nails lol or it's some weird effect but anyways sometimes your eyes startle me lol
Thanks for the acetone/purple heart tip.... I have been waiting about a week between sanding purple heart and applying tung oil. It would be great to cut that down to 20 minutes! I'll probably start working with purple heart more often now (It's such a beautiful wood).
I have used purple heart in small turning as well as knife scales. If you get it hot from friction sanding or buffing at high speed it turns an intense purple color. You can also use heat gun and heat it after sanding allowing to raise the grain and then re-sand and the purple will stand out. I have never used the acetone before. Sounds easy enough but I thought I would include both as if you re making a product that is for food use you might not want to use chemicals
Agree. I use my old biz cards for glue and paint spreaders. They are thick linen. I also use them like some people use playing cards for centering drawers and cabinet doors.
Hi, I love your video's! How you build your woodshop, and now helping people to start for there own. Giving free advise and helping people to save some money! You'r just a great guy! ❤❤ Love from the Netherlands 😃🙏🏻 thank you Bro 🙏🏻
Oh, WOW! Great video with awesome tips and book recommendation! I LOLed for real with that little guy taking care of business! 😂😂😂 I had not heard of the third website and had forgotten about the other two. It’s all about using ALL of the tools in your toolbox!!
Never worked with that purple heart seems difficult to work with, and yes sanding organizer learned real quick gotta figure that out lol...and yes dont want to waste a sliver of plywood that's cool they have that...thank you...
Matt, the business card trick all depends upon what the GSM is of the cardstock/paper thats used to create the business card and lots of companies use different card thickness ( GSM). As always brother 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
Hobby Lobby has the same double bin to store sandpaper for $23.99 instead of the Amazon $34.00. Plus you may be able to find a discount coupon if these are available in store.
Good tips Matt! I’m definitely going to have to organize my sandpaper that same way - right now it’s all just thrown in the bottom of a big box and I have to sort through it every time haha!
Thanks for the tips The plastic ben also stabilizes the humidity and prevents the paper from warping. I use a torch to carefully torch, the Purple Heart to gain maximum colour. I’ll definitely checkout those calculators
Howdy Mr. Buttons of the 731...😊 I like the cutlist site, thanks for that info. Usually, when I'm cutting up ply, I do the old school way...graph paper and then each box has a given dimension and I literally draw out a picture of a 4x8 sheet and draw ever single piece I'm needing to cut. Been doing that forever...and it takes "forever" to do, lol. That site will definitely come in handy. Woodworking books. Yeap, I've got LOTS of them. I don't use them much these days, but back before the internet, I had books, magazines and Norm Abrams New Yankee Workshop. And books are similar to scrap wood, we just don't ever throw it away. So, I still have my books from when I was a kid. Great video Sir. Thank You.
From what I just saw on the site, they have a switch to pay attention to the grain you can turn on. I'm not sure how well it works because I ran out of free calculations, but it's there
You also have to be mindful of the plywood grade your using some are not a true 48”x 96” sometimes they are undersized by a 1/16” which doesn’t sound like a lot but can be a make or break deal for a project
I use a lot of rectangular sandpaper sheets, and use an expanding, manila office file folder. About 20 individual pockets. Holds a ton of paper. Costs around 15 bucks.
@731Woodworks Sad face. I have some whiteside ones with the cheap plastic pouch. Maybe some new ones are in my future. Thanks, keep the tips coming. 🤜🏼
Same. Ive got some woodworking under my belt but theres always more to learn and theres probably some good pointers in these book I never would have thought of
Picking up the DK book in a bookshop several years ago, while waiting for my wife, was what took me down the woodworking rabbit whole in the first place 😊
Hey buddy. Just finished listening/ watching your first podcast. Great stuff. What chairs were you talking about that you started making off of Jay Bates? I went to look but he's got a lot. I'd like to start with the ones you did. Didn't know how else to contact you
I use cultist for more than just plywood. If i need multiple pieces from larger boards, I'll add those sizes to the stock list, make sure im buying enough or not over buying. Especially when you have a mix of longer amd shorter pieces
rarely do I find any of these videos that give me something new, as I watch them just to stay connected with the community and support content providers, but the website resources on this were fantastic! great video!
Other way to get purple heart back is basically baking it. I did it a few years ago and it was something like 350 for an hour and it got back to the nice deep purple color.
While you do produce good videos I think the opening titles to your “99% of woodworkers dont know”, you should title them things I have recently learned. I have seen your tips hundreds of times over the past 20 years.
@@Phillipinewannabe I guess, to get new viewers. I just wish there was a less obvious, less clichéd way to do it. Once someone sees the channel they can see the value, but some people are turned off by the click bait titles. There are channels I never start watching because of that. Sure glad I watched this one early on or I would have missed out on excellent content!
He used to not be a click bait channel and had build videos. Now he mostly just makes videos that he can affiliate link things to. Basically an online e salesman.
I've made a few pens from purple heart. Once I get it shaped and sanded, I let it spin on the lathe at a slow speed and hold a heat gun to it for a while. Brings back the purple, then I'll seal it up.
I'm not 100% sure. Probably both would be my guess. But others say you can "bake" Purple Heart in the oven for a few minutes at 350 degrees F and get similar results (without the acetone).
Do you know the definition of clickbait? The thumbnail shows acetone being placed on Purple Heart. The very first tip is just that. Which by definition is not clickbait. 🤷🏻♂️.
Then was it really clickbait if you didn't know these 🤔 🤣. I have a whole video series called 99% Didn't know.. Basically it's little known tips and tricks.
One that I accidentally posted on your subscription page first then reposted here, saying that the Cutlist website only gives you 5 free computations per day and then you have to pay or subscribe. So may take someone like me who has to watch every penny a bit longer to tinker with a design to maximize materials. It's entirely possible that I may have posted it on a different wrong video, or not at all after typing it up. I also mentioned that you can use it to maximize materials other than sheet goods. Fence pickets for example. I was working out how to build multiple jewelry boxes out of the minimum amount of cedar fence pickets and that tool is awesome an got me 3 nice sized boxes out of 2 pickets with leftover wood. Sorry for the long post. I di have a favor to ask, I'm trying to buy a house and am having some difficulty with the loan because of some paperwork that was very difficult to find. I lost my first loan because of it and had to start the process again. I am currently living in the house I'm trying to buy and if the loan doesn't go through I will be homeless at the end of the month. I'm not asking for anything big, just that you and Amy pray for me to get good news for once. I've already lost my wife in November, our home in Feb and can't take much more. Please pray for me. Thank you.
