This works. I finally got consistent with using CeraVe healing ointment and I no longer have chapped lips. I kept trying to make lip balms work but they are so short lived. Thanks for the validation!

Would really appreciate if you make a video on hair oiling because in eastern cultures, hair oiling is really pervasive and have been used by people for thousands of years but modern medicine seems to consider hair oiling as unnecessary or even unhealthy and damaging to hair. Great video! I am coming off of a head cold and can attest to mouth breathing at night, making my lips suddenly very dry. Your tips were already on my radar, and a warm mist humidifier on High in the bedroom and a thick coat of Aquaphor on my lips helped so much. And the inside of my mouth was more comfortable with the humid air. Tongues aren't supposed to dry out! 😋
there wasnt my type of drying lips , my lips are drying fast and the skin is jus getting peeled of continously and yeah both up and down side. Also, when i get dry lips for a long then when i wash them or water touches it, it literally becomes white that peeling off skin like i dont know what to do and also my doctor said a capsule named - (Becozinc) also this aint any seasonal or environment issue to it. it started around more than a year and getting worse, sometimes not worse but not so good.
I'm currently in my fourth month of taking 40mg of isotretinoin per day. Initially, I took isotretinoin solely for my acne, but I'm pleased to report that it has also cleared up my backne and dandruff. However, I've developed extremely chapped lips. Vaseline alone didn't work for me, so I started using lip balm (Bioline), and it fixed my chapped lips.
I recommend Portland Bee Balm. It comes in a plastic tube wrapped in brown paper. It's very nice and thick, made with beeswax, olive oil, and coconut oil. My favorite is the yuzu scent. Lemony.

dr syed, i just found you today and considering your no bs content type, i really really need you to make more videos like the one you made on retinoid with other ingredients. you should make it a series so that it would be really helpful for people to pick and choose which ingredient they need or do not need in their routine. since what you're actually talking about on those videos are evidence based and nuanced, it would be real helpful if you did similar content on hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, other active ingredients, etc (love your content btw)

I have very dry lips as a result of taking Accutane to cure my cystic acne. I also have eczema.I use the Paula's Choice Lip and Body Treatment Balm and Lipscreen SF 50. Before those products were on the market, I used petroleum jelly and the Neutrogena lip balm with SPF 15 (I'm not sure if that's still on the market.) Aquaphor also works well if you're not sensitive to lanolin. The Paula's Choice products are unflavored and fragrance free. However, they do have some of the ingredients Dr. Syed called out as allergens: castor oil and beeswax, and one he didn't mention, lanolin. So YMMV. As Dr. Syed pointed out, most lip products - balms, glosses, and lipsticks - have flavor and/or fragrance, and many people's lips react badly to those. I learned this the hard way about 30 years ago when I got a terrible rash on my lips from a lipstick. They took 2 weeks to heal up ; I used plain petroleum jelly to get them back to normal. Lesson learned. And on that note, STOP USING PLUMPING LIP GLOSSES!!! Just stop. These products work by using ingredients such as peppermint and pepper extract to irritate the skin on your lips to make them swell up and look bigger. They're very harmful to the delicate lip skin!
I actually followed most of these steps already from what I noticed when I was younger. My lips always got irritated using lip balm and licking my lips. It got really bad then I was like ok licking my lips ain’t helping and I happen to see Vaseline for lips when I was out one day and figured this might work better and difference is night and day. My lips and skin around them felt like so dry it was gonna fall apart and now they’re just a little dry after eating or waking up. I got to try that humidifier though. Good to know I’m 2/3rds of the way there thanks for the insightful video

Why do my lips seems to be contrarian... 😢 I've known about vaseline for years, but in reality, when i create a nice thick vaseline barrier for my lips, I wake up to peeling and cracked lips. When i don't put anything at all, they remain only mildy dry. Am I really dehydrated perhaps??
Great video! One more thing, that doctor didn’t mention is changing toothpaste to SLS free. That’s may be a reason for people who are allergic to SLS or it’s just too irritating/drying for them.
I used to have burning lip sensation all the time as I used all kind of lip balms, which made me reapply them again and again for some comfort. Now I use Aquaphor healing ointment, and my lips feel so much better! I still use a lot, mostly because I'm so used the need the feeling of it on my lips, however, at least I no longer feel that burning feeling that lip balms left. I think that at this point it's basically addiction to have those products that keeps me reapplying all day long.
Great video. I have been fighting with dry lips couple of weeks. I used to put original Vaseline long time ago. And thanks to your video today I went to the local pharmacy for cosmetic vaseline, althought is from different company than original Vaseline. Anyway,, suddenly I feel big relief. Been trying lots of stuff from natural cosmetics brands with shea butter, oils, etc. I am in my 40´s and cause of hormonal disharmony, my skin is getting dry. What if you had chapped lips since you were an infant? And the bottom lip is worse (grew up close to the Beach). Vaseline helps and so does olive oil (but Vaseline is better). Thank you for your informative video!!!!

You mentioned exfoliative cheilitis as being caused by dry air, basically regular chapped lips. From what I've read, they don't know what causes exfoliative cheilitis and it can be a lifetime problem. I don't lick my lips or use any lip balms, my house isn't dry yet my lips are still peeling. I've had some success with cerave healing balm, but if I stop using it, the lips start peeling again. Is there really something called exfoliative cheilitis that goes beyond just having dry lips?

Evening Dr. Unfortunately I caused me & my son bottom lip to dry out because we had an allergic reaction to an off brand olive oil we used. Which caused this dry film to form on our bottom lip. That continuously peels eventually. My daughter used Vaseline a little too often & it caused her dryness. Went to a dermatologist who prescribed a steroid ointment that was effective initially, but did a reversal for some reason once I had to stop applying it after two weeks. Now I’m back with this dry film on my bottom lip & have exhausted so many options 😩🥺
Doctor I have severe exfoliative Chelitis I took tacrolimus before for three months l cured but it comes back after stopping and I use many lip palms but nothing benefit for me what should I do
But what about exfoliative cheiltis? I think i am suffering from it. My lips (lower) are peeling throughout the year, they don't seem dry, however they always have a layer of skin that peels very easily upon coming in contact with water, generally mornings. It doesn't hurt, no pus, nothing else, just extra skin cells every day. It's so bizarre, my dermatologist couldn't figure out what i was going through but after doing some extensive research on the internet, i have come to the conclusion that most probably it is exfoliative cheilitis, which i know is very rare. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you so much x
having chapped lips for abt 10 years and hands itchy to peel it as usual. i've tried humidifier alone but it helped a lil. gonna buy vaseline to try tmr to use tog w my humidifier... hope to update in 3weeks 😊
@gxd_edits24 yes! definitely worked.. my lips are no longer chapped. this has to be a daily routine with humidifier, applying vaseline at least morning n night and avoid using fingers to touch your lips.. i hope it can be fixed permanently in the long run. we'll see...
1. my chapped lips are usually bottom but will get on top too. I'm 43 and have had chapped lips since i was a kid. We usually get mouth sores 1-2x a year, but I'm a virgin as well as my friends prior to marriage, and I have had sores since as far back as i can remember, maybe 5. And mouth sores are common for everyone here in the Philippines once a year, no one thinks it's herpes. Since covid, i haven't been out of the house, so no risk of sun exposure and the Philippines is a tropical humid country, so not bec of dry air. None of your examples fit me or most Filipinos, so still a mystery i guess
