Those pore strips are invaluable for pulling out splinters in hard to reach/see places or for kids who hate tweezers. You just cut off a piece big enough, wet it, wait, and presto! No more painful splinter. Excellent advice, and I learned a lot from this video.

I'm 29 and have struggled with blackheads/sebaceous filaments on my nose since puberty. I've tried all the 'DIY' cures egg mask, lemon juice, toothpaste etc. So after killing my skin, all I needed was Salicylic acid cleanser, paulas choice bha and the ordinary niacinamide. Been using these for about 3 weeks and noticing such a difference 😀

Then at night either salicylic cleanser again or cerave foaming cleanser if I'm using the paulas choice bha, (I don't want to over exfoliate as it was drying my skin out and irratating it a bit) only use Paulas choice 2-3 times a week, I put the paulas choice straight on my hands then pop it on my face, as i found the cotton pad absorbed most it, then either cerave night Moisturer or keihls ultra face cream (I won the keihls in work, otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it 🤣) Then once a week I'd use the ordinary bha peeling solution, the red liquid face mask, forget the proper name. @chipmunkwarcry
@chipmunkwarcry 2 года назад
@@aestheticslifeandstyle190 I had to look this up a while back, because I noticed most of the skin care RU-vid videos I watch don’t really explain the difference. Black heads are when the stuff in the pore turns black and are gross and need to be removed. Sebaceous filaments are an accumulation of oils that sit on the skin. And the word filament refers to the tiny hairs (vellous hairs)that normally also are growing out of the pore. Both are actually very normal to have, but when it starts to build up a little on places like the nose it starts to become a more obvious when looked at up close in the mirror. Also it can stretch out the pore a little. Mostly you want to maintain them so they don’t turn into a blackhead, but they don’t /need/ to be removed entirely. I hope this makes sense :D

Most Doctors are treating symptoms instead of looking for root causes. Poor kids, scrubbing their faces after every class with harsh detergents and anti bacterial stuff, applying these garbage chemicals that strip and irritate, then people say things like, " Eew, gross, go wash your face." My skin got way better when I started using actual soap. You've discovered over active oil production comes from dry skin. Water consumption rate is a big factor to all cellular hydration. Half Gallon, minimum, daily, on top of any other liquid you chose to drink. Diet plays a factor as well. Your skin can help the body purge troublesome toxins that are either what you put in or on your body. Most of those lotions are garbage, with alcohols that dry and crap that clogs. Exercise helps too; the sweat flushes out the pores. My skin, and the rest of me, feel the best when I am actually doing all three of those things at the same time. Diet, water, and some exercise would solve several hundred, "ailments," but that wouldn't make any money for Pharma.

My pores also seem smaller now but I've come to think of pore size as a weird mark of beauty. People only try to convince you it means anything to sell a product. Our pores do contract and open up when they are open they appear bigger and there are many reasons for that. (This channel can tell you more about it I'm sure) I've also found limiting the fat in my diet seems to help. If I eat above 30% fat then my pores start to feel oily and clogged up. (I track my macros which is why I know that)

I've never had huge skin problems so I never dove deep into skincare, but after giving birth and turning 40 I noticed many more sebacious filaments especially on my chin and I HATE them, I kept using strips and peeling masks and washing and scrubing but nothing worked until I saw this video, the SA wash and retinol serum leave my skin so soft it feels like baby skin and filaments disappeared OVERNIGHT. THANK YOU 🙏

I reduced mine a lot by using an oil-based self-emulsifying cleansing balm. It dissolves dirt and oil sooo well! I'm not especially acne-prone, but I'm starting BHAs to see if I can reduce them further. Unfortunately the pore strips never worked for me - they just didn't grab onto anything. I know they're not ideal but it would've been nice to get a clean start once a month or something.

Yes, that is actually one step that has helped me the most. Oil/balm cleansing. Any cleansing oil or balm will do. I usually do this at least one a week and really take my time massaging (5 min at least, sometimes I just sit and watch TV and keep massaging), especially around the nose area. That reminds me I should do one oil session today :)

I used to use those pore strips back in school when I was young 20s. They wrecked my skin. Caused blood vessels on side of nose to pop and look horrible. No amount of lasers have helped those broken vessels. But they also then resulted in even worse blockage in those pores. It was like they created more space for gross stuff to go. I then had to steam my nose all the time to get that out. It was a nasty cycle. So glad I got away from them. I now use high quality honey on my face now and it really helps.

I am trying to create a simple routine for myself and my almost 11 yr old daughter who I belive has keratosis Polaris on her arms and cheeks ( I also commented on your video about that). Do you recommend the cerave sa cleanser more than the moisturizing or foaming cleansers? And would you follow up with the same cream on the face for the KP condition? I am in my 30s and am tired of black heads and would love your help for both me and my daughter.

I’d say the cerave cleansers are better. I myself am a 13 year old and I have that too.
@bundocom
@bundocom 2 года назад
I've had KP on my body all my life and have been using hyaluronic acid products for the last year or two, and I think you should avoid the SA cleanser for your daughter's face and go the opposite way: hydrate more, and try hyaluronic acid. Cerave has a moisturizing facial cleanser and lotion with hyaluronic acid. I was going to recommend the neutrogena hydro boost series, but Cerave might be a little cheaper. I can say the neutrogena hydro boost body lotion is fantastic. I just tried some on the back of my arm after not using any for weeks (I showered with cheap heavily perfumed body wash and a microfiber cloth last night and didn't moisturize) and it took my bumps from cheese grater to SMOOTH. I also live in a desert with humidity in the low to mid teens almost every day. It's 16% today. Resist the urge to scrub and strip skin with KP. Acne comes from too much oil, KP comes from dry skin, and you can't buff or strip that away. Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are oil soluble, so they remove it from your skin. AHAs like lactic acid are water soluble (a lot of people with KP say AmLactin works, but you have to use it every day and it's expensive), so if you're going with a chemical exfoliant you'd want to stick with those, but I think with good hydration you'll find no exfoliation is necessary for KP beyond regular washing. I know when I travel to a humid place, my bumps go away within a day or two with regular showering and no special exfoliating.

A relative gave me a bar of Trader Joe's Oatmeal Ginger Exfoliating Soap and oh my... After a week or two my arms' skin looked like a baby's butt. Since this is an exfoliating soap I've thought of using it on my face for my blackheads on the nose, it might work but I have to try it first. HOWEVER, for KP that soap does miracles.

I was curious if you have some suggestions for eczema prone skin on the face. It has been diagnosed and sometimes some things works but it seems like a daily battle
@WillEnj0y
@WillEnj0y 2 года назад
Used to be in the same boat. I’d have red eczema across half my face, up both arms. My advice would be to ALWAYS have a prescription steroid cream on hand (I get a really thick one so I can use it sparingly on my face without fear of getting it in my eyes), use it until it clears up, and then find one body and one face moisturizer you trust and use that until you see any sign of a flare up and then repeat the process. In my experience, eczema has really been something that would only really get worse and worse until I used a proper steroid cream for multiple days until it was all gone, and then “fire fighting” when spots reappeared. These days ever couple weeks I use the cream for about 3 days and then just moisturize with aveeno for body and cerave for face. No magic. In fact I would recommend using as few different products as possible on your face as possible so that you can easily see what things your skin likes and what it doesn’t. Good luck.

What are your thoughts on mandelic or Lactic acid instead of salicylic. They generally are slower penetrating due to the larger size of the molecule, but in your opinion can they be less dehydrating to the skin?
@summeraude4988
@summeraude4988 2 года назад
Mandelic acid and lactic acid are alpha hydroxy acids, whereas salicylic is a beta hydroxy acid, so their uses and benefits are different. A better comparison would be mandelic or lactic instead of glycolic acid, which is another AHA. And yes, those two are less irritating due to their larger molecule size, so it could be said they would be less dehydrating.

I have both the Paulas Choice leave on BHA and the CeraVe cleanser they mentioned. Personally, I can use the leave on twice a day without tightness or dryness, where as the cleanser does dry me out. It’s worth noting the skin is not otherwise irritated, and I have hard water and live in a dry desert climate. So I generally use the cleanser only a few times a week. Maybe try a different delivery of BHA? As noted, the paulas choice has been AWESOME for me. My sister uses it too and she has very sensitive skin, and doesn’t experience dryness either with it.
