I think the craziest thing that's so easy to overlook is just how fast you play the game. Like not just speedrunning a level without slowing down but getting all the coins and enemies and powerups incredibly quickly

This game makes you replay 1-1 almost as much as mario maker endless mode

I feel like the reason Mario's speed feels reduced in this game is because all of the sprites are being displayed in 8:7 aspect ratio instead of 4:3 like the original

It's kinda funny when you see top tier players play games for the first time because they have such an analytical mindset that they perform worse than most (even some casuals with good reflexes) at first, but once they get all the mechanics down, it's like watching a superhuman play

tips made by myself: -if you attack people with lowest time, they will have more enemies to defeat and mote time to get -if you attack people with most coins, they can spend their coins on item roulette

Must be difficult to adjust when you have spent, like, over a decade attuning your muscle memory to a game that's just ever-so-slightly different

The emphasis on bouncing on things and getting combos is super cool. I'm ranked in the 1,000's for coins right now and trying to figure out how to get the best runs for coins makes this amazing tbh.

It probably feels like you're running slower due to the screen aspect ratio & size in this version. I felt like the acceleration and running was a bit off too, it might be slightly different. Why they'd change that is beyond me, but I'm sure there's a reason.

You could do it without seeing or hearing the game, but I'm not sure that would be enough to give your lobby a chance. The fact that Nintendo, instead of just copying their SMM code, took the time to rewrite and upgrade their old SMB physics is a proof that this game will never die.

Glad this game mostly gets the speedrunner seal of approval.

To answer your question, Hammer Bros. may seem weird at first but here's how they work. If a Hammer Bro or Bowser is to the left of Mario, they enter Charge Mode, where they chase after you at an insane speed. If they're to the right of Mario, they enter Guard Mode, where they try to cockblock you as much as possible by moving very little increments left and right erratically as they throw hammers/breathe fire and jump.

"Kosmic's in the lobby. That guy gets lots of coins." The "k" in Kosmic stands for "koins." The "c" also stands for "coins."

It would be nice if there was a special battle where you play as Luigi, different physics like the lost levels or 2J in Japan

Chain stomping and koopa shells are your best friend in this game. On the first day, I rank on average of 3rd - 5th place

wow i discovered that i could literally watch kosmic play this all day long

Personally, I would love to see a Vs. Super Mario Bros. 2 Famicom Version from Japan, to do a 35 vs. yourself type of rom hack for Super Mario Bros. 2. It would be also funny to see Contra 35 vs. appear at some point down the road. That would be hilarious to watch all of them fail at the beginning level.

We need to start a petition to get Nintendo to bring this back

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say "I won, dang it!" while playing a battle royale. Probably because I almost never watch people play them, but still

the amount of screens on the screen makes me think of back to the future part 2

Things I learned from this video: 1) These aren't super mario maker physics 2) It's going to take some getting used to 3) That's not a thing in the original 4) That's not normal

Also, the warp zone doesn't works more like The Lost Level in that it can bring you back to a world you've already visited + it bring you back to a stage. (You can even redo world 1-2 if the warp zone offer you to.)

Knowing I have 9 wins within 24 hours of release and Kosmic himself had just 4 more than that... fills me with both determination and a fairly positive notion of the fact that I'm comparably decent at running 1-1 and 1-2 a million times in a row while actually taking the time to kill enemies and collect coins to the world record holder who has a completely different skillset LOL.

The physics should be basically identical to the original SMB aside for a few small tweaks, and certain glitches not working anymore since this doesn't have the limitations that the NES had hardware & programming wise. The physics seem practically identical though.

So they add Luigi icons but no character? (I think they could add him as a unlockable character on like level 50

I've played a couple rounds and definitely noticed the physics. It feels like they made the effort to be more authentic with the physics compared to Mario Maker, but tweaked things to fit modern Mario games, namely the power up system and the enemy bouncing. I think it's much more accessible that way. Not that I dislike the originals physics - I've played it so many times that I can pick it up instantly, but it does have quirks that threw me off first time, as someone who started with the New series as a kid. The one thing that trips me up still sometimes is when you stomp on a green paratroopa and they change direction! Near death sentence if I just took them out with a short standing hop. Literally turns round and punches me for taking his wings. 😛

It was probably figured out by now, but the random extra enemies (ex. 4:03) are from other people's games, so whenever you kill an enemy, you send a light blue-colored version of that to someone's game randomly, and sometimes it can send a huge wave of them EDIT: I made this comment before he did mention finding it out (he mentioned sending Hammer Bros to people) so this is for anyone who didn't know now I guess 😂

they should make the falling attack work because thats more fun

Love this game! Noticed you were streaming it yesterday my brother same time I was! Definitely different physics then the original! The biggest thing for me was the jump height off enemies. Its insane and a little broken honestly

Nintendo should make a Super Mario Bros. 3 35. Having Boos, The Koopalings and Boom Boom to add to the chaos! Especially Roy Koopa and Ludwig Von Koopa who ground pound and stun Mario.

As a SMB speedrunner myself when I saw this game announced on the 35th Annyversary of Mario I thought "Damn, Kosmic will be hella good at this" I wasn't wrong.

I saw Ryukahr play this and imitatively thought "I wonder how Kosmic would perform", and you did not disappoint.

You ask why they would change mechanics, but my guess is they recreated the mechanics to be like the original and differences arose from doing so.

I'm young and i didn't play the original mario on the NES so i'm used to super mario maker version and mario odyssey and i die a lot trying to get used to those tank controlls
