In 1958 I built a Monogram plastic B-26. It was one of my finest builds at the time. I preferred it to the old Havoc's and Mitchell's that everyone else liked. It's been a favorite of mine ever since. You got a real beauty here. Thanks for the video. I like your style. 80 y/o in USA.
Astronaut Deke Slayton was a A-26 pilot in WWII. He wanted to be a single engine fighter pilot (like everyone else) but the invader was about as close to a fighter plane ad you could get. They came in low and hot. I recall one of the scientist astronauts in the Apollo program told the story how they had to learn to fly T-38s. They learned to fly by text book. He rode back seat one day with Deke flying the T-38. They were going to the Cape. Deke hit a turning approach and flared it right at the feathered edge of stall with the jet burbling and about ready to fall out of the sky. It scared him so bad, he reached for the ejection handles, just in case. When they landed and were walking from the jet, he asked Deke about what that was about and why taking it to where the T-38 was burbling. Deke just shrugged his shoulders and said, "I guess it did." And he said that's when he knew these guys, the test pilot astronauts were another breed of flyer. Deke learned to play by the seat of the pants. Can't learn that from a book.
i see why avaitors fall in love with their craft, and crafts...these old warriors deserve their time in the sun again..and what a great way to pay homage to the best generation who fought and died to fight evil transgressions..your channel deserves many more subs/views..thx again...
my dad flew these in the Korean war , some models had 24 forward firing .50s centered at 600 yds. He said he cut a small ship in half once using 18 guns with APIs and a two second burst!
- also in the F6F Hellcat, F8F Bearcat, P-47 Thunderbolt, Lockheed Ventura/Harpoon, Northop P-61, Martin B-26 & DC-6 as well. An iconic design.. Awesome sounding as well.
