Carry on grub is giving me serious school teacher vibes as a decent body that generates a strong tokenish card, I think that it has so much general use case and small synergies that it’ll be one of the strongest cards (so far obviously we haven’t seen that many). Sometimes hearthstone decks need just powerful utility cards and it most certainly looks like it could be one of them.
I think you're seriously underrating Carry-On Grub. That card is close to Schoolteacher level of broken, with pre-nerf Schoolteacher stats. It is tantamount to a 5/5/4 that draws two cards, which isn't utterly busted like Magatha for example, but the fact that you can space out the mana for it is VERY strong
And you also save handspace by having two cards in one, which can be quite nice for control decks. It can also sometimes put T.N.T. inside the suitcase, neutralizing it.
Carry-on-grub goes CRAZY in rogue with things like sonya, on top of TONS of bounce effects to continuesly get INSANE ammounts of value, if you can just play one or two carry-on-grubs, along side sonya thats 8 cards, absolutely ludicrous
@@joshdimaggio5764 So draw RNG combined with the RNG to happen to have both Sonya and the Grub in hand. On top of the opponent doing nothing you have to respond to.
@remyllebeau77 play the grub, hold onto the spell until you get sonya? It doesn't have to be all at once not to mention in an excavate/burgle centric deck you're shooting for value anyway so it's not like you wouldn't want dupes of your cards so on average you should be happy with your hits
Carry-On Grub has another upside in that it basically allows you to hold 11 cards in your hand because the suitcase is one card holding two cards inside it. So it gives you more options for things to do on your turn while conserving hand space until you actually decide to use the suitcase.
The stats aren't randomly chosen. They probably experimented with many different stat lines and Mana Costs. There are probably a couple of really good locations in this expansion, making the average outcome much better than what we expect now.
@@x10018ro half of me says you have a decent point but the other half says you give hearthstone team too much credit. Sometimes they really do print unimagimable horrible cards. I wouldnt be surprised if it straight up sucks
for "average stats" a 4/5 (yes I know that you can cheat mana, or get better stats with these 3 outliers that have conditions, follow on, or draw backs, but that is not how mana costs work Yeti is "average" stats to cost) is about 4 mana, and then if you get a 1 mana and a 2 mana location it is "fair", 2x 2 mana locations is above average, and anything above that is good to amazing. HS has been in power creep for so long that "fair stats" means "unplayable" think about that.
Carry-On Grub "softcounters" Dirty Rat by making any minions drawn with it a spell, and Bomb-based cards by disabling their "cast when drawn" effect, effectively neutralizing the bomb/plague at the cost of hand space and either only drawing 1 real card or none at all if you find 2 bombs, in which case you never actually need to pay the 1 mana tax to unbox the suitcase with useless cards in it, it's a 4 mana 5/4 remove two drawtraps from your deck without actually being a hyper-specific and oftentimes useless counter card. It's also playable a turn earlier than something like an actual 5 mana card due to the staggered cost of the effect, it also has cheap spell synergy like you suggested and a semi-relevant Beast tag for Hunters. Also, the two cards drawn only occupy 1 hand space upon activation, which can be relevant for decks that struggle with hand space but still want to draw cards. It's cheaper upfront cost also makes it a better than average target for bounce effects, and it helps make Quickdraw more consistent, at least on the turn you decide the pay the 1 mana tax to open the suitcase to get the Quickdraw cards inside.
It's a real shitty design choice to have these cool tourist legendaries, and then all the other legendaries are bad. This set will suck to open packs for.
If locations stay pretty rare Lora could be a sleeper hit for next year after the old locations rotate. The grub could also pull cast when drawn cards like TNT or plagues and make them not go off even when you cast the spell they shouldn't go off.
Bumbling Bellhop could probably go into a wish upon a star deck. Especially if shaman and demon hunter get some 5+ cost spells this expansion that work with the deck.
I want a commander format so I can slot in all these bad legendaries! Suddennly you have space when you have 100 slots to fill! 100 card legendary deck!
2 months after release they're gonna try to buff Lora by reducing her to 6 and/or bumping up her stats and she's still gonna be bad. I think they'll be scared to give her discover but they might do it if they really want her to succeed for some reason
That Druid legendary just doesn't even feel like a druid card. Kinda feels like that isn't a great signal for the rest of the druid cards and lack of direction
rng balancing always gets on my nerves. Like, sure the card might be balanced across all the games it’s in, but if half those game are super strong highrolls and the other half are completely useless lowrolls, then that doesn’t really feel balanced to me.
Carry on Grub is really cool to me since I can get a medium power body and store the top two cards for later that if I don't want or need them now, I can save them for later. The funny point about bombs is true but I think if they already put bombs in your deck and you're just playing this 5/4, you've lost the game.
I feel carry on grub with pip the potent could be exceptionally fun combo. Definitely wont be good but imagone in wild pokelting or dredging then copying somdthing not meant to be copied
Genuinely think it could be good in standard though! A cheap spell to refresh hero power with new Raza that also helps refill your hand to get even more resources
