After watching this doc I saw them in Boston 2 years ago. I go to a lot of shows. These old dudes put on one of the most high energy shows I've ever seen! They had a huge mosh pit going, they killed it!

Awesome that this film is giving these guys more recognition. Waay ahead of their time. Politicians In My Eyes sounds like it could have come out of the DC hardcore scene years later. Now if only Arthur Lee and Love would get more recognition. They were the best U.S band to come out of the 60's, but all everyone goes on about is Jim Morrison and the Doors.

Fantastic documentary. It totally pairs with 'Searching For Sugar Man' which is ALSO about an underground musician from Chicago during the same time period. This movie made me want to pick up my guitar again after a long hiatus. I also need to get a record player because this album should only be bought on vinyl :D

@jonnyodde2363
@jonnyodde2363 5 лет назад
@@bryanforbes3361 1) You missed my point, but even still you are wrong. The Stooges and MC5 (and Death) are the epitome of proto-punk. By definition, them and bands like them "started" punk. 2) Read my comment. You don't think I know where rock and roll came from? Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the Hot Gospel of southern black churches is a good start. The topic was the birth of Punk, not Rock and Roll. I stand by my statement 100%.

Simply put.. If DEATH had never existed there would be no Bad Brains as we know them, plus many other countless bands that owe so much to these true pioneers of Rock & Roll. And it doesn't' surprise me a bit they came from Detroit City Baby! My Mom was born and raised their and she still rocks at 91yo. DaOrigTruthSeeker Well they hardly"invented anything" punk rock was originally fans of rock&roll who were sick and tired of songs haing to be 20 minutes long, with 19 of those minutes dedicated to a drum solo, they wanted to go back to a time when the music was fun and easy to play. Like the bands and songs on Lenny Kaye's nuggets, record, so in stepped the Stooges, and the Ramones, And I am highly doubtful that "Billions" have been made.

That's kind of the whole problem. Nobody's heard of them, they played protopunk very close to actual punk in 1973, you can count the other bands who did this on both hands, maybe even one hand. They recorded songs in 1974, but they couldn't get any deals because society was racist, even the non-racist record labels wouldn't want to put money into it because due to racist society it most likely wouldn't sell and just be wasted funds. They ended the band in 1977 and in 2008 one bandmember's three sons found the records in their parents' attic and started covering them, reminding their parents of the records. Then in 2009 the band managed to get the record released in 2009, so only now people are able to find out about a black band that made fucking awesome protopunk in 1973.
