A Bard's Lament - Scanlan /Critical role Highlight 

My favorite part about this is how little Grog talks while the party yells and screams at Scanlan. The first thing he asks is about his mother and then apologizes. Really shows just how close those two where.

It’s such a dunk move for Scanlan to say Percy’s parents names as he walks out

Scanlan was asleep or MIA for 75% of this episode and Sam Riegal still stole the episode with an all-time performance

"You, little elf girl! What's your name?" *Liam and Travis instinctively move away from Laura* I love this episode so much.

Everyone saying the "what's my mothers name?" moment hits the hardest, my opinion its at 23:06 when Sam knew Percy's parents names without looking at any notes. He remembered his parents names when 5 other people couldn't remember his own. That's fucking tough.

Even though I've seen the part where Scanlan goes off many times, I still grimace when he really starts getting upset

“I’m out of my league…” Goes on to be the mvp of the last battle.

The love Grog shows for Scanlan and his understanding of his feelings really shows their friendship. The others at the time really didn't get it or get him

Scanlan was mad that they didn't know his mother's name and still they didn't care to ask, to a point that GROG needed to do that.

This was a heavy one. It's just the utter feeling of realisation and betrayal on the other's faces. Laura's 'My take away from Scanlan is that we all talk too much.' and her 'Fuck him for not saying anything sooner. And fuck us for not asking.' is so important, because they realized right then and there what they had done, even if they never meant for it to be this way. But there's also that sense of betrayal because Scanlan never said anything sooner, even when they asked. Those feeling were so real. It's why Sam breaking the tension with a joke is needed. It's making sure everyone is alright after it.

Scanlan: "I am useless... I am out of my League !" Also Scanlan: "But I counterspelled it at 8th level !"

I wish to God Ashley was there and was able to add her RP to that Rollercoaster

35:40 - 35:45 Look at the shift in body language as they all realize that the tension has now left because Sam made a joke and everything is okay

I appreciate that, despite the shock, the players found a way to incorporate Tary into the party, even though there was an impulse to tell him to take a hike. It's good when the players know the assignment is to say "yes and" or "yes but."

I love how even at this point they did not necessarily realize how big of a deal they were going to become, with Liam thinking Sam was wrapping up

You can see how tense it is for 35 minutes watching this scene unfold, until Sam pipes in with a joke to let the group know to take it easy :)

I’d just love to know what the text message was that Sam sent to Matt when he was like, “Hey, so I feel like Scanlan’s gotta leave the group after this.”

Grogs responses are on point, All he says in the room is I'm sorry and what was your mom's name. And outside with Percy his response Is I don't know many things but I do know that

I wish Scanlan had said something along the lines of "I recall you telling me that I'm just a dude Vex, and maybe that's all I really am." to Vex when she tried to tell him she thought he was useful

Vax being unable to talk about Scanlan expect in relationship to himself is so telling. “I changed my life because of you, you could crush me, I thought you had it all figured out and wanted to be like you” Most of them don’t come off great during this but Vax stands out to me as someone that is trying to be less self-centered in their own life

Bear in mind,Sam had never played DnD before VM, likewise Travis. Nevertheless between the two of them they provide story moments like these..

Saying he was afraid about talking to his daughter in comparison to fighting ancient dragons is such a beautiful stroke

For some reason the image of a bunch of people dragging a beholder into a field and beating the shit out of it just kills me.

30:05 Such a beautiful moment between Percy and Grog that I hope is given attention in the show.

There's only two times I cried real tears during Critical Role. Both were Sam scenes... this was one of them.

I have a feeling that this is the moment Talesin created such a profound respect for the dead and death in D&D storytelling that it sparked the idea for Caduceus. Just a feeling.

I enjoyed so many moments before this episode but this is honestly what made me fall in love with this cast.

I know that this video primarily focuses on Scanlan, but re-watching Tary's introduction, I realized something. The title of his book which we see in C2 is The Daring Trials and Tribulations of Sir Taryon Darrington. What, in this scene, does Percy suggest as a title? The Daring Trials and Tribulations of Taryon Darrington. Like, I'm sorry, but considering what happens later in this arc, this just sends me into a inhuman state of joy. I don't know if Sam has ever commented on the title, but god dammit, that just makes me smile. X3

I'm really excited to see this animated on the show just because of how gut wrenching it is, I really hope they leave in Grog asking what his mother's name is. It's the sweetest small detail that shows just how much Grog cares and feels bad.

I never liked how everyone felt like they had to yell and lecture Scanlan. They obviously didn’t understand how they fucked up and their reaction to it just gives me the ick 😢 I don’t understand when people respond to sadness with anger

I love the fact that Sam gets affected by his pwn stuff too. This and somrthing he does toward the end of ExU Calamity are epic examples of his brilliance and how he even affects himself sometimes. Its amazing!

It's so good that the realisator of Legend of Vox Machina succeded in finding voice actor so close to the original character!

Sam's RP is fucking legendary, but bouncing off of the rest of the cast is absolute gold. Such a beautiful section of Critical Role.

this is hard to watch... scanlan is my favorite dnd character in all of my DnD experience. when he tells the others that he feels out of his league, he is really out of their league. by far.

If they don't just copy n paste this into the script then I'll be disappointed

I've always been impressed by Sam, and his ability to create a character who is, honestly, both equal parts scumbag who needs his ass kicked, and the MVP. Like this whole rant is so good, because it really shows what a piece of shit Scanlan can be, while also (almost) making sense. Like, he's completely full of shit, but he's got juuuuust enough legit ammo that you can see how he's rationalizing it. Like, you want nothing more than for Grog to lop his stupid head off.....and then he's later the, as I said, MVP. Hats off to Sam.
