Thanks for breaking down the phase comparator. That one had me confused for a while. You can patch your own PLL with a pair of oscillators, a balanced modulator and a filter....for science of course.
I don't quite get how XOR logic into an LPF will produce DC pitch signal. If the external osc and internal osc were perfectly aligned, there would be no gate high pulse and wouldn't that create a flat signal and make the pitch drop?
