Bundaberg Rum is made with locally grown sugar cane in the coastal town of Bundaberg Queensland Australia. Bundaberg is a sugar cane growing city in the state of Queensland and is famous for it's rich volcanic soils and subtropical climate similar to Hawaii. Bundaberg distilling started in 1888. Probably a brand of rum that is not too well known in your neck of the woods but iconic in Australia.

Great video Steve, this is rammed pack full of info that I wished I had watched at the beginning of my rum journey (pretty much at beginning of lockdown! - I honestly didnt know the different between cap morgan's gold or a dark rum - which now I know is actually a spiced rum and explains SO MUCH about why my earlier cocktails tasted like sweets!), I have been working backwards through this series and feel like I finally have the basics :) My 2020 Mai Tai (Cap Morgans dark n barcadi white rum base) vs my 2021 Mai Tai (Appleton 3yo n OVD Demerara base) were worlds apart! Planning to up my game as the rum selection grows :) Thanks again!

Thanks for the video. I've started drinking and enjoying rum and rum-based cocktails in the last couple of years (or way more, if we count Bacardi and Coke, but let's just not get there), and was very informative. I'll get some based on the different styles for sure.

hey Daniel, actually the (Cuba) Libre is a cocktail I'm visiting REALLY soon. Just to try and show people that actually 2 different Light Rums will make a totally different Cocktail! And I actually don't know what my favvy will be yet! I think it's Flor de Cana... but i've never done a side by side tasting!

This is excellent information and very details - thank you . If I may provide a bit of feedback though ( please don't take a critical ) the editing on this video and others is very Abrupt, meaning the cuts are jammed together which causes your delivery cadence of the material to be mashed together and hard to follow. I ended up watching several times so I could ensure I heard everything. - honestly though - great information thank you for crafting the video

Stocking my home bar do I need one of each ? And do some rums not cover multiple category’s for example you can get a spiced Overproof and golden aged sorry it’s just so confusing I’ve watched all your rum journey and still left with questions - Light - Gold - Aged - Dark - Navy - Overproof - Spiced - Flavoured - Demerara - Agricole

Haha, I feel that i have to work up to that answer. I mean at the moment I drink ED12, Angostura 1919 and Plantation XO but there are soooooooo many here. Literally thousands to choose from. And do you know what, appreciating Havana Especial neat will actually been a massive step.

Hi Steve can you review Asda Caribbean Spiced spirit drink? It's cheap (£13 for 70cl), 35% ABV and, I think, good enough to drink straight.

For a person like me who is mostly a whisky drinker but that likes to sip some rum as a malternative, I find difficult to know what rums to choose since I tend to look for the most natural rum as possible without sugar, aged and more than 40% ABV. A few days ago I tasted El Dorado 15 and really liked it especially with a small rock of ice and it didn’t seem very sweet. I have a bottle of Mount Gay XO and Appleton 12 and also a rum from Madeira island (Portugal) from a brand called 970. The expression I have is a 15 year old cask strength and aged in Madeira wine casks. But every time I search from rums I feel the lack of information. Would you recommend for example the Havana Club Seleccion de Maestros?
@StevetheBarmanUK
@StevetheBarmanUK Год назад
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Yeah, Havana SDM is great. I'm always nervous about recommending Rum to Whisk(e)y Drinkers as i'm really not into whisk(e)y... and those inherent flavours put me off a Rum that is well aged in Whisk(e)y barrels. a few years is cool...but while i like ED15 and say Doorlys 14, i do prefer 0-8yo Rums more. The 970 is great, but again I have the 6yo. Other stuff you may love, Pussers 15, Doorlys 12 and 14. Also some Martinique Agricole... go up the ranks a bit...some XOs for example. Again, atm, I prefer younger stuff, but i know many people that will easily recommend XO and upwards over my tastes. Hoppe that makes sense.

Great video! However, I think you missed a great opportunity here by not recommending us brands that best represent the different basic styles of rum. To be fair, you did name a couple of brands for most (if not all) styles, but I missed a single brand that, according to you, best describes a particular type. This would really help the viewer to form a basis of what they're getting themselves into when shopping for rum. Lastly, keep up the great videos! I really appreciate all the inspiration you're giving us.

Is Fijian rum English style or Spanish style not sure 😅
@StevetheBarmanUK
@StevetheBarmanUK 2 года назад
Traditionally, English. 👍 methods are very similar to English Styles. But more and more distilleries are getting away from that. Some English Rum will be very light and 100% Column Still. Some “Spanish” can be heavier and Pot. It’s an easy way to classify Rum back in the day, but not so much now.

@darrentracey2030 3 года назад
@@StevetheBarmanUK funny you should say that …… it was a recommendation you give me in spiced rum club on Facebook last year. It sits in my rum cupboard (alongside a doorleys xo) and doesn’t come out to play too often. But when it does, it’s only when I want to treat myself with a fine neat sipper. Totally with you on the rum pathway. Spiced wise, started with the fun stuff - dmf etc, moving to chairman’s spiced and foursquare spice (both my joint favourite spiced rums). I’ve found myself leaning more towards the Barbados rums - rums from the mount gay and foursquare distilleries are a winner for me! Up to the £25-30 mark buys some very nice rum from either distillery in my opinion. 🥃
