A better Trimaran than Vagabonde's?

How does this Neel Trimaran compare to Sailing La Vagabonde's new Trimaran? We sail from the berry Islands in the Bahamas on our Neel 43 Trimaran to Rose Island right next to Nassau. It was a really good sail and we reached speeds of 10 knots.

Every boat build has a specific purpose, whether it be a power or sail boat. The Neel seems to have good office space, has the right hull design for that length. I am happy for you and your family now having a great working area to socialise and sleep. I have not seen La Vagabonde 60 on the water; only in the workshop. My goodness, the volume in the main hull is enormous, in the main cabin, the sleeping areas, cloths closets, engine room and kitchen cabinets, for four adults and two children; it is an enormous try hull. I am looking forward to see the final product sailing with average sails up. I am looking forward to seeing the La Vagabonde go on a test run to see it's moderate capabilities on the water. Elayna wants security, safety and liveability on the seas and islands for herself and two sons. While Riley wants those same things as well as speed to get out of trouble if and when the need arises. They wanted specifically everything on their tri hull to be carbon fibre for strength, lightness weight wise and far less maintenance with no stainless steel brass or the like. Their 60ft Rapido Trimaran in my opinion will be an experience to be-hold; watching it go through it’s sea trials and the learning process for both of them as well as their adult experienced sailor guests on their 60ft Rapido Trimaran.

Bobby, I've been a long time viewer, but don't comment much. I wanted to share a quick story with you. My dad passed away a while back from cancer. While he was going through Kemo and radiation, he spent quite a bit of time watching your videos, here on RU-vid. You were his favorite channel to watch. He viewed your videos, right up until he passed. He said that doing so kept his mind off what he was going through and genuinely enjoyed every episode. Glad to see that you're able to "pilot" so many different boats, I think this is especially important for the folks that are looking to getting into sailing or perhaps looking at upgrades from their current situation. Anyways thank you to you and Stephanie and everything you both are doing, keep up the great work and content🙂

Sad, that he did not watch The Truth About Cancer instead. Then he could still have been alive, I can tell you with confidence. Don't get angry on the messenger, but do get angry on the corrupt world we live in, including the so-called health care system. I by the way personally know many people, who have survived and overcome even supposed terminal stage cancers, all following one of many alternative procedures. All, that I know personally, who went the oncology way, including my sister and mother, are long dead. I am angry, I can tell you!

Doesn't come close performance wise, not really comparable. The Rapido 60 would run rings around this floating apartment, the only thing they have in common is 3 hulls. In the right conditions the Rapido is going faster than wind speed which is crazy. La Vaga are going to make some great content with that boat because you really don't see them very often. Should be awesome promotion for the Rapido brand, also the Rapido just looks bloody cool. The Neel is a nice boat though if you want more comfort.

I always likened that feeling of keeling over in the sailboat to cornering on a motorcycle, imagining the force of our weight over the machine's tires on the riding surface as we lean over at velocity, into the turn. the wind in the sail is leaning in, grabbing and pushing against the waves of solid water, by way of the keels underneath, like a teeter totter, and the boat its fulcrum...

Easy answer: The NEEL, every time. At any length. Dodgy electrics and all. The Rapido is a fantastic looking race boat with a shower and an electric dunny. The price difference is hilarious. I could get Chris White to build me a brand new Atlantic 47 with S Class Fibre glass for that money. I could buy his Atlantic 55 for the northern hemisphere and a NEEL 43 for the southern hemisphere for that money. You've done well with your tri. Absolutely.
@LoanwordEggcorn
@LoanwordEggcorn 9 месяцев назад
Chris White's boats are vastly better built and likely far more seaworthy than Neels. No comparison. A car analogy would be Aston Martin to Volkswagen. Rapidos are pricey due to all the Carbon and quasi-race quality. Chris' boats are more high performance cruisers than racers.

@1corinthians15.1-4kjv
@1corinthians15.1-4kjv Год назад
@@TA-wg9oi What do you even mean with that nonsense? The Neel 43 is priced on par with the Rapido 40, not their 60, which is in fact the same price as a Neel 65. But the space in this 43 is about the same as their trimaran, the Neel 65 is really a floating villa. Self-defeating comment of yours, in my view! I do like Rapido too, though, just to be clear. They got different virtues, the Rapido is probably as close to a performance boat, as you can get, when still has room for comfort to cruise, but the Neel offer even more space than catamarans, but still offer a better ride and speed than most catamarans would do. He also states that. It is all about the compromise, that you are willing to make and what you value the most. I actually do not quite get, why La Vagabonde pay so much emphasis on performance, when they actually are an entire family cruising. It is not like they are going to win races in the Rapido either, but it will be a bit faster in extreme conditions for sure.

No one choose the Rapido for the space - but for the sailing ability and speed witch stands out from the like of Neel etc.. The Neel is about as wide as a similar lengt catamaran - so it hasnt got more stability but a more stressed motion with its 3 hulls.
@BilldalSWE
@BilldalSWE Год назад
A Rapido would make sense if you only lived in it during crossings. The issue is 90% of a liveabord cruisers time will still be spent on anchor and most sane people would gladly sacrifice a few knots top speed over literally twice the living comforts during that time... The Outremer 45 is already a pretty fast boat.
@jamesaron1967
@jamesaron1967 Год назад
There are plenty of fast catamarans with better living space if not more space. The Orc 57, for example. I'd much rather have the ORC than the Rapido. The layout is superior in a very fast liveaboard if that's what you're after. I'm sure those two boats could trade blows in various conditions as far as performance is concerned. As a matter of fact, James from Carry on Sailing channel who owns a Neel 51 is considering the Orc 57, not a Rapido 60 for a replacement. Regarding the Neel 43 featured in this video, it is actually a little wider in the interior where it matters than a comparatively sized catamaran, and you won't find a cat under 60ft with a master cabin on the bridge deck, which is a hallmark of Neel yachts. Some people may not care about that but it's one of my sought out features in a multi-hull. I prefer cats over tris but no cat reasonably priced exists with a cabin on the bridge deck. They don't have the room.
@kvalvagnes
@kvalvagnes Год назад
@@jamesaron1967 Its not about interior space for everyone - you dont ned 4 doubles if you sail with two people or a small family. If speed and safety is high on the list a trimaran will do the job. To sail fast with a performance cat - you will loose safety - on a trimaran you will still have hit - going fast.

There both definitely trimarans but to say it's better. I don't think it's fair to say . Vagabonds 60 to me is a beast super fast and very sleek were the Neil is big and clunky. From what I've seen the Neil is like a teeter-totter bounces back and forth from one side to the other. Were the vagabond and I'll call it the vagabond 60 because that's how you described it stays pinned and not much of the teeter-totter ring I would love to see both of them side-by-side to see which one stays behind. Hi Bobby. I stumbled across your channel today. I am a professional skipper/coach and a client of mine is about to buy a Neel 47. The vessel seems to have a lot of good points (I'm a monohull guy, really) but I can see the benefits for fast cruising. My client has a dog and some children that will sometimes be on board. I am speaking to Neel, but I had a couple of sailing questions. If you can answer me (if you see this), what is the Neel 47's highest TWA / AWA in calm water at say 20kts True Wind? I'm told they sail well on the wind compared to other multi hulls. Second, what are they like in big waves? I've always been nervous of multi hulls in big waves (say 4 - 8 metres - 12ft - 24ft)? Finally, my client will sometimes be singlehanded. Do you feel this is feasible for short passages? Thanks a lot, in advance. SUBSCRIBED & LIKED.

having seen the Neel 47 review from Ruby Rose I would look elsewhere for a well built boat. Shoddy construction.

I'd ask recent Neel owners about their experience over RR's appraisal. That yacht they saw was not representative of the brand. It was rushed to make the boat show on time. If that was the standard level of quality Neel offered their clientele, the company would not have sold over 40 of their model 51 yachts. They probably would have gone out of business by now. It's just common sense. On the contrary, they're expanding their model line and recently opened a motor-yacht division.

Yeah, I really hope, in all seriousness, that Neel would sue the heck out of that couple, for all their slander and lies! It is simply not true, and they lied about so much. For instance they claimed, that the Neel trimarans are unsafe, because they got no water tight crash bulkheads. Turns out, that Neel are class leading! All smaller models got 5 or 6 crash safe bulkheads and the Neel 65, which by the way a bit cheaper than the Rapido 60, but most like offers three times more indoor space, got eight! That is just one example in their outright lies! What is Nick and that lady today anyway? They are essentially nothing but paid trolls for Balance catamarans, claiming Balance to be better than all other catamarans, even in things, where they are even late to the game and beaten by newer boats, as for instance the solar and hybrid drive system, which Windelo do cheaper and better!

@@jamesaron1967 I took note of the testimony by one of the participants in last years ARC Regatta crossing the Atlantic in a Neel 51, which were, that nothing broke and that it was such a silent and pleasant sail, even in rough sailing conditions, and not even a single floor board squeaked anywhere. Again, the opposite of, what Nick and his lady said! I trust that guy more, and he also have sailed the damned thing, across the Atlantic! I really begin to feel, as The O'Kelly's also have said in their videos, how on Earth can you even make a review of a boat, without going sailing in it? It is like making a review of a car, which you have seen on a parking lot somewhere, which is of course nonsensical. Nick and his lady is a joke!

In the end it's always a case of different horses for different courses. It's very hard to fault people for choosing a Neel or a Rapido because both have their strengths and "weaknesses," I'm sure. Neel trimarans have always scored high when it comes to sheer accommodation space, and there's no doubt in my mind that the Rapido is faster. Which is precisely where Riley of La Vagabonde comes in. He and Elayna had to compromise on what THEY want from a boat. Elayna wants safety for her children, Riley has always hammered away at his strong belief that speed is in itself a major safety factor. Both the Neel and the Rapido are obviously big boats, at 60ft even the Rapido must have quite enough room for a family of four.

There are quite a few out there - Romanza was the first or second I think. But you're right, there's NO comparison with anything that doesn't have the same waterline length!
